Don't we have a travel planner anymore? Or...is it my computer, or what?
I am trying to find a work-around for the issue that the Wget program only downloads the first 10 tips of a group, if that group contains more than 10 tip (e.g. when you have 100 Things to Do tips, that would be 10 pages with 10 tips each, but only the first 10 tips are accessible through the "'index.html" file). The other tips appear to be saved somewhere in the local "VTBackup" folder, but very hard to find because they are not browsable)
My idea was to add VTML hyperlinks on each location page that link to the pages with tips 11-20, 21-30, 31-40 etc. I reasoned that if these links would be on the location page, the Wget program would add the right links to these pages and the off-line tips would be browsable.(e.g. my Skopje Travel Page, "Skopje" - Skopje by Pijlmans),
The URLS for these pages would be (I changed the first part of the link in order to have the links not automatically converted):
If I copy/paste the URL for e.g. page2 directly into the browser, it works well and it takes you to the right page containing tips 11-20.
However, when I edit my location page and add the following VTML hyperlink:
and I save the page, and then click on "Page 2" on my Skopje Travel Page, it becomes this URL:
NOTE that the original "#memberreviews=page2" became "#memberreviews=page2"
And this page unfortunately brings you back to the page with tips 1-10, not 11-20.
Is there any way to fix this? I think theoretically this would make the local folder that is made by Wget better browsable!
Please help since time is ticking....
Hello VT mates. It's really a pity that our favourite trip site is shooting down. It's true I have not been time to build of the pages and tips I would like to, but VT was a kind of my very personal and trip influencer site.
I managed to save most of my pages downloading them in PDF format. Just the biggest ones remain unsaved and I would find the way to keep them all.
I would like to delete my pages before VT will close down, because I prefer to control a bit the property of my photos, tips and memories, but I don't find how I can do it. Could you please help me explaining the way I can remove my pages before cancelling my membership?
The address for the site doesn't want to seem to load for me today; it sticks about a 6th of the way through. Anyone else having difficulties?
How do I move all of my travel tips from the old trip planner to the new one? Thanks for your help.
...having nothing at all to do with downloads!
Just got my new Macbook Pro and had all the data on my old Macbook Air transferred over to it.
I am doing some housecleaning; in my downloads file are a whole bunch of previous Adobe Flash Player installations. Can I get rid of those without screwing anything up?
My Trip Planner hasn't worked for at least a week. Is anything being done about it? I can click on things to add them to the Trip Planner and the Trips all come up nicely. However, when I go to my "Welcome" in the banner and scroll down to Trip Planner, I get a blank page. There is no way to access any of the Trips because they simply do not show up.
Which files are needed? Does it matter whether your operating system is 32bit or 64bit? If windows 10 will not do the job will it be easier on a computer with windows7 or windows xp?
I would like accurate information for long time members of this site to save their materials... Print Screens etc.?
When I tried to download the content of my pages on PDF per the directions, I got a "The service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." When will the service be up and running again?
how do i log in to G and Tilman new site to participate in Forums I need to log in it says someone please let me know how to
Hi All. The link to download your tips and travelogues to PDF is live. Here are the steps with screen shots to help out:
- Go to your travel pages (travel map)
- Scroll down to find the city you'd like to save and click on the edit button
- Up top, there's a button that says "Download Your City Content", click that
- Once the pdf is saved, open it up
- Scroll down to the travelogues and tips list of photos
- Click on Download Original or Download Large link to open the related photo to save
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have questions.
The original VT Founder, Tilman and I have put up a page with tutorials on how to back up your VT Member Pages using 3rd party publicly available programs and utilities. This site also has a forum so that people can keep in touch and help each other out. If we decide to do anything in the future with the grassroots collaboration of VT members, we'll talk about it there. This site is:
Please note: Neither Tilman nor I have any relationship to current VT or TA. This is a volunteer effort to help people save their pages. Also please note that we did NOT write any of the programs, we're just giving advice on how members can save their pages.
Hi everyone, with today's update we have added two new links to photos on your photos page, photo library page, and the individual photo pages - Original and Large. Now for some technical details, the Original photos are being problematic so disregard that link. That is why we included the link to the largest scaled size we created. If your photos were 1200x1200 or smaller then this will be the same size as your original. I will let Gia know so that he and Tillman can update the download guides.
I am really confused... Is it real that VT will close in February?! Why????
And.. how I can save all our pages. It is a big travel guide/book already (
I am going through my pages and in some of the tips on my Amasra page (from 2004) I found something strange. It looks like web addresses are copied into the text, like I would have copied the text from somewhere else, but I haven't.
It doesn't make sense. For example I wrote: As I in Istanbul didn't go to the otogar before it was (now the thing with ntsearch web address comes, together with the world time) to leave I bought a (now the web address comes again toghether with the word ticket) from a travellagent in Sultanahmet.
For other people it must at a first glance look as I have copied the text. Does anyone know why it looks like this:
Istanbul - Amasra
I had heard from Erkmen that two buscompanies goes all the way from Istanbul to Amasra. They are As74 and Ozemniyet. Other buses goes to Bartin and from there you take a dolmush. The dolmush takes 30 minutes and costs 1 650 000 TL.
As I in Istanbul didn't go to the otogar before it was time to leave I bought a ticket from a travellagent in Sultanahmet. I don't know how much more I paid for the ticket because of that but it was 20 000 000 TL. The company was Metro, which is a good company. To Bartin it took about 6 hours from Istanbul (Harem otogar).
Does anyone know why we can no longer print Trip Planner pages? A message says the page is on 'vacation' while the team resolves some issues, but is anyone really servicing it at this point?
I've been using the trip planner to save my tips but seems it now is not working. Any other ideas to save content?
Links to download videos have been added to the Videos page as well as the individual videos pages. Clicking this link will open the video file. To save this fiile select File -> Save in your browser menu or use the keyboard shortcut for save Ctrl + S for Windows or Command + S for Macintosh. The filenames are machine generated so feel free to name your local copy something better. We hope this helps you preserve your content.
I want to know how I can save all my messages in inbox from my friends on VT.
Please advise would be much appreciated in easy guide as I am not the most techy person
I have a question for VT members who do self-hosted blogging. Have any of you had your hosting done by siteground? Would you recommend it?
I expect those of you not on Facebook are wondering what's happening at the moment, and although this isn't an official update from G, here are his latest comments.
"The new site that we'll use to post tutorials on saving pages will also have a simple Forum so that people (even outside FB) can easily keep in touch and assist each other with back ups. Thank you. BTW, we are just waiting for VT staff to post some links to large images on the VT site then we'll be able to post tutorials."
Hope this helps.
I need to remove the tip group Eranga Kurera Tours from both the transportation and things to do categories in the Sri Lanka section. How I do this or have it done by VT?
Here's the latest info from G about how things are progressing
"We are setting up a site that gives you detailed instructions of how to save full copies of your member pages.
Today I will start uploading the Mac OS solution to a site we've set up. I still need to get some Windows info, but it should be soon. It will be wise to wait for a couple of days before downloading the back ups of your pages because VT staff are going to publish a fix that allows original sizes of your photos to be captured.
We will also have a forum where people can assist each other and keep in touch.
Please spread the news. The site will be outside of FB so that everyone - even non Facebook people - will be able to access it".
Does anybody know if there is a quick way to delete a whole Travel page and its tips, or all the tips from a page rather than having to delete them individually?
Is there a fast way to delete single pages, instead of deleting any single review?
For those of you who need help in backing up your pages and not able to follow the latest news on Facebook from Giampiero, I can now hopefully report back on here as to the latest events.
This is his latest comments posted around 4.30pm UK time today, Thursday 12th Jan.
"I'll finish testing today and hopefully post the step by step instructions for how to save all your stuff in one click. Thanks to the VT guys Alex and Josh who are making life easier in difficult circumstances"
Hope this helps
Over the years I have written a large library of things on Virtual Tourist and would like to download these so I can keep them for myself. What is the best way to do this?
Print screen has a lot of information I do not need and cut and paste is not really practical for 100s of pages.
Virtual Tourist, you will be missed.
Thank you for your help,
Since last weekend I haven't been able to post on any of the forums, but I'm hoping that now I can.
Can anyone out there see this ?
I need help with Scrapbook and with Downthemall.
Scrapbook is easier, but I can't figure out how to attach associated images on a tips page, for example. There's a feature in the capture menu, but it doesn't work, or I'm using it wrong.
As for Downthemall, I can't figure out anything really here, except that it does show the address for my data. How, can I use this to save all my data?
Help me right away, as I have a lot of downloading to do!
