I keep reading on the 3 day city transportation ticket but I get bit confused. Is Troika valid on the express train from Domodedyevo to the center?
I am arriving mid day on Monday 12th Dec and leave mid morning on 16th
I know the express ticket cost around €9 each way and Troika cost 420Ruble for 3 days. Trying to find best financially favourable ticket for sightseeing.

    • 4-5 days in St Petersburg

Saint Petersburg Nov 16, 2016 at 7:19 AM

      Hi,

Would anybody have recommendations for things for c. 12 (academic) high school students to see in St Petersburg, or would it be worth going on a day trip out of the city? Is Valaam Monastery too far? We'll be going in the latter half of February 2017, and obviously we're most interested in the history and literature but I'm thinking maybe there might be some little-known spiritual place inside or outside the city that might be worth a visit?

All suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million.

Day (half day) trip out of town

      Moscow Nov 20, 2016 at 10:25 AM

I will be in Moscow from 12-16th of December attending concert in Kremlin.(14th in the evening)
I already have list of things to see in town while I am there.
I arrive on the 12th mid afternoon and departing the city at noon on Friday, so I only have 3 full days and afternoon on the 12th.
I was wondering how feasible is to have day trip ( or even half day) out of the city and what you suggest is best choice for this trip?
I know you can spend month in Moscow and not see everything, but I thought something different for fleeting visit.
I love history and anything is OK, very much love soviet times and something to take me back to my growing up in Socialist society will be great.
I am also very big fan of Russian Classics and visit to something connected to Tolstoy, Pushkin, Esenin or Gorki is also something I would love to experiance.
      Any suggestions?
      Thank you in advance.
      Best V

    • From St Petersberg to Vladivostok?

      Russia Nov 24, 2016 at 10:33 PM

      Hi
I want to travel diagonally across Russia using public transport. I'm planning to start in St Petersberg and traveling across the northern regions of Siberia then across to Vladivostok . I know it's a long way and will take some time.

I was wondering if any Russians out there could tell me if it is possible to travel like this across some of the more isolated regions along the northern end of Siberia and the eastern parts of Russia? For example, is it too mountainous, is it too cold, is the frequency of transport allot less in that part of the world?

I've travelled across countries like Mongolia, Kazakastan and other Central Asian countries so I'm somewhat familiar with some of the modes of transport. I'm just not sure what to expect in the regions I want to travel.

I'm hoping to go in Russia's summer months.

Any tips at all would be helpful as it will provide a great starting point for further research into this trip I will be doing in the next few years.
      Thanks so much.

    • Rostov info?

      Rostov Feb 27, 2006 at 8:19 AM

Hi! It looks like I will be in Rostov-on-don for a year or so training and I have a few things I am wondering about.

Would be awesome and I would be very appreciative if anyone could answer some of these questions:
-What is the availability, speed and cost of high speed Internet i.e. DSL for unlimited usage in Rostov
-What types of cell phone services are available and at what cost? I think I heard GSM do they offer GPRS or any other data services?
-What would the typical cost for a reasonably nice 2-3 room apartment be?
-What would it cost for additional services like possibly a house cleaner, laundry person, food shopper etc. Was thinking it would be nice to eliminate needing to do some of these things and get my work done more efficiently.
-Is there anything fun to do in Rostov?
-Is it possible to get food by delivery chinese, pizza etc?

      TIA

      Chris

BOAT TRIP: when starts summer season?

      Yaroslavl' Mar 12, 2004 at 5:00 AM

i plan on taking a boat from yaroslavl to kazan. in my guide book it says, that you can catch long-distance boats in the summer season, which lasts from early june to early october. but i'll be there beginning of may, which doesn't to seem to make part of the summer season. does anybody know, if there are boats running already in may too? it doesn't have to be necessairely a long-distance boat, i'm also fine with several short-distance boats. i just need to end up kazan.

    • Rostov anyone?

      Rostov Jun 9, 2003 at 4:13 PM

Hi. My husband is going to Rostov for work for a long time. In three months our daughter (7) and I will come too. What is Rostov like? What is the weather like? How strong is the dollar? Is there a McDonald's (for a happy meal!)? How much does a bottle of ibuprofen cost? Will vodka have to suffice for the occassional headache? Are there any activities for children? I also sing jazz (we are from New Orleans). Can you direct me to any information about the city whether by book or website? Thank you so much.
