Hi there, I'm a UK citizen and I had my passport and wallet stolen in HCMC. I've now got an emergency passport and am in the process of getting all the visas I need for my onward journey.
However I'm a bit confused... My flight back to the UK involves a one and a half hour stop over in Delhi to change planes. On the UK gov site it says that people travelling on an ETD ( emergency passport) need a visa and TWO ETD's - one to enter Delhi and one to leave Delhi. I'm having trouble finding out if this is true as I've had no reply to my emails and can't get through on the phone to the Indian Embassy. Can anyone help?
Hi we are group of 4 travelling to Vietnam on 12th Nov 2016. Can we get visa on arrival after showing the approval letter from vietnam immigration. If yes what is the procedure to get this approval letter?
I am moving to Hanoi in a couple of weeks for work and will need to get around fairly quickly to different areas (teaching in different language centres). I was wondering if the buses are fairly easy and stress free to use a couple of times a day to get around, because I reeeeally don't want to get a bike. Thanks!
Has anyone traveled from Halong Bag to Hanoi Airport by car?
If so, how long did it take you?
Was there much traffic?
We have a domestic flight at 21:15, and we can be in Halong on the same day at 11:30 the latest by car.
So are not sure, when we are there if we have time for a cruise and for the trip back to the airport by 19:30 latest so we can catch the flight at 21:15.
Thanks in advance
I have read that the most common one is the two pin flat or round but also three pins are used to. In North Vietnam guest houses which ones would be the most common?
We are interested in doing a 5-6-7 day tour (organised, not by motorbike) of the NW.

Anyone done this recently. If so, any recommendations for agencies or tour companies.
Thanks in advance.
Interested to know your thoughts on this.

I'm planning to travel to Hanoi February of next year. Would that be okay? I mean is the weather good for travelers visiting Hanoi during February? Thank you all for your replies.
Hi there We are from Cape Town, South Africa and are planning a trip to Vietnam in December 2016 for about 7 weeks. We are wondering whether to visit the neighbouring countries of Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia as well. We have been to Thailand (Bangkok and Phuket) before but would like to maybe spent some time there in a place we haven't been before. We would like to stay at least 5 days in one place so we would like to select the best places. We would appreciate your advice as to an which cities and towns to visit and the itinerary. If we have to miss 1 or 2 countries, which one's would you suggest. We will arrive and depart from Hanoi. Possible cities to visit include: Hanoi Hue Ho Chi Minh Siem Reap Phnom Penh Vientiane Luang Prabang Hanoi Thanks in advance. Have a good day. Johann
IS there any update on visa extensions? Are they again possible? I would like to enter Vietnam for 4-5 months- and so need to extend after the initial 3 months VOA have expired, can I do this by land or agent in Mui Nei? (where i will be based)
Whats the length of visa they give you if you go to Cambodia for a day? And indictations on price would also be great.
Hello to all. I am planning to travel to either Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. But I'm confused as to which of them. Can you help me, please? Which one does offer good travel experience - cultural, historical landmarks, city landscapes, prehistoric attractions if any, etc? I will travel in budget. Is one of them good for a budget traveler while the other one is expensive. If that is so, which one is budget traveler friendly? Can you recommend an area in that city where there are cheap accommodations similar to Jalan Gaya in Kota Kinabalu? Thank you so much in advance.
Hi, WE land in H C M C at the end of February next year. Our plans are to spend a few days there and then move on.
We are really flexible about travel, ie bus plane or train. We have looked at Nha Trang and Hoi An, to spend about seven days there before returning back to H C M C for our outbound flight.
Ideally we are after sunny climate, no rain,,,,Nice beaches nice clean seas to swim.
So whats the best Nha Trang or Hoi An..
We enjoy lazing on beaches,,, beachside food stalls,,, a little bit of nightlife and a little bit of unspoilt village life not to far away...
I still have 1 more seat for transport from Hue to Hoi An on 7 September from Hue to Hoi An.
We will stop over at Lang Co Beach, Hai Van pass, Cham Museum, My Khe Beach & Marble Mountain.
Pick up from Than Thien Hotel in Hue, & drop off at Xom Dua Homestay at Hoi An
Privately msg me if you are interested.
We are a couple in the beginning of the fifties going for 12 days to Vietnam in the beginning of October.
We love nature, wandering around local neighborhoods, authentic food, people watching.
We are weighing the option of starting in the south and moving upwards by flights, ending up in Hanoi from where we will continue to Hong Kong.
However I understand that the weather in the south can be extreemely rainy in October and therefore maybe we should fly straight to Hanoi and focus all of our 12 days in the North.
Looking forward to your recommendations.
Are there any hotels in Ho Chi Minh City which offer an early check in?
Flight arrives Tan Son Nhut at 7:35 a.m.
Is this a comfortable travel? it is long travel or just a slow trains?
I am assuming it is a scenic route. Is it?
Does anyone know a good local tour provider for day trip from Da Nang to Hue?
I have been reading about the current (June 30th 2016) fish pollution situation happening in Central Vietnam. I was hoping someone who was recently there (June or July 2016) can let me know how safe it is to eat and travel in Hue, Da Nang, and Hoi An.
I would hate to plan a trip about these cities and have to avoid seafood and the beaches.
I'm going to visit Halong Bay in the next month ( early August). I've heard that having a scenic flight over Halong Bay is the must-tried experienced if you were to visit Ha Long. I wonder is it that good? Should I try it ? because my budget is not much, so i have to consider carefully about it. Also Is the direct flight from Hanoi to Halong worth the money? Because it only takes me 45 minutes rather than 4 hours on a bus. If you tried it, please give me some pieces of advice. Thanks !
As a UK national, will be visiting Hoi An in early August, arriving from KL. Is it best to have a mixture of Dong and US Dollars? I've a pre paid Fairfx currency card too.
I'm going for a 3 days tour to Vietnam, please suggest places to visit and what is the easy n cheap way to travel from Ho chi min to Hanoi?
I am budget type lone traveller. Do you think I have enough time to cover these places ( Hue - Hoi Ann - Nha Trang - Da Lat - Muine - Ho Chi Minh or to to skip 1 or 2 places, I understand it is a rush journey..
My flight arrive Danang Mid noon and I intend to go Hue first. Any suggestion to get the cheapest transpotation from Danang Airport to Danang Town bus station then I take a local bus to Hue.
Is there anywhere in Hanoi I can buy Sapa textiles such as tables runners and wall hangings.
Am visiting Vietnam from Kuala Lumpar late July. The visa exemption for UK nationals ends on june 30th. Is there any indication if the exemption will be extended ? The increase in tourism from the european countries that benefited may influence their Tourism board but as yet no word. Thoughts or links anyone?
Hi folks, We have 18 full days in Vietnam in October (flying in to Ho Chi Min at night and out of Hanoi in the morning at the end). We are looking for some opinions on itinerary from people who have spent a bit of time in Vietnam.
We are in our 40s, like a night out but not the backpacker party scene, don't fancy Sapa or Nha Trang. We both have some back issues so prolonged trekking and long bus or train journeys are out, but we can do a bit of both. Primarily we would like views on how long to allow for Danang/Hue/HoiAn, but other itinerary suggestions would be appreciated too.
We are thinking:
2 days Ho Chi Min (including going out to the tunnels)
3 days 2 nights Mekong Delta trip
1 day back in Ho Chi Min then fly to Danang
A few days in Danang, Hue, Hanoi - we aren't sure how many is enough/too much??
Fly Danang to Hanoi
2 days Hanoi
3 days 2 nights Halong Bay/ Cat Ba Island
Back to hanoi and morning flight.
Is it worth staying in Halong Bay itself an extra night?
Thanks for any tips/suggestions.
Hey guys, where can I find a luggage storage place in Da Nang? I'll be dropping by Da Nang on the way to Hue but don't want to carry along my bags while wandering around Da Nang. Many thanks!
3)l check for fare today 31/5/16 and notice some saver fare become even lower (18 to 25 E)few hrs before departure. So it means we can still buy saver fare at the ticket machine 2 hrs before departure ,is this correct ?
As a Green traveler, I wish to have a full itinerary and advise for this country. I love culture, history, heritage but not big city or beaches.I will be travelling from Thailand and will cross over by road through Issan, Thailand. My choice will be travelling from south Vietnam then up to the North then down back to Thailand or maybe Cambodia and finally Thailand.
My passport expires 27/02/17, and I enter Vietnam on 10/08/16 for 10 days. So I have 6 months + 17 days from entry. According to government website this would appear to be ok - any thoughts on if not ?
Also, I believe I need to get a VISA ?
My children's passports have a full year left, but their photo's are quite different as they have grown since. Any thoughts if I may encounter problems ?
is it possible to enter vietnam without a departure ticket? instead just buying it when you're in vietnam? thanks :)
