I'm about to spend 2-3 days in Sapa at very end of February, planning some trekking with home stay. I was just wondering about how cold could it get to decide which kind of clothes to bring and also if you would recommend high trekking boots or just trekking shoes would be sufficient for the paths around - this is meant for medium trekking, nothing too challenging.
We are leaving for Vietnam on 11 January 2017. We arrive in Hanoi on 12 January 2017 and depart from Hanoi on 26 February 2017.
So far I have only booked a hotel in Hanoi for 7 nights. The rest of the itinerary is still flexible.
I need some suggestions and comments and recommendations from your experiences as to possible changes to cities being visited, number of days and other cities to be visited, etc.
Hanoi - 7 nights
Luang Prabang - 6 nights
Siem Reap - 7 nights
Phnom Penh - 7 nights
HCMC - 5 nights
Hoi An - 5 nights
Hue - 5 nights
Hanoi and Halong Bay - 3 nights
Or maybe skip Hue and spend more time in Hanoi/Halang Bay/SAPA?
Thanks for your input.
We are a couple from Cape Town leaving for Vietnam on 11 January 2017 entering through Hanoi.
We have been reading a lot about vaccines recommended and get conflicting stories.
According to the website www.dirco.gov.za (dated 27 November 2013):
"There is a risk of malaria in non-urban areas. Hepatitis A & B immunisations are recommended (Dengue fever or DHF). There is no immunization against DHF. It is strongly recommended that comprehensive travel and health insurance be obtained which would include emergency air evacuation by a recognised carrier. Prospective travellers should check with their insurer to make sure that their policy meets their needs."
CDC again recommends that:
"most travellers" get travel vaccines and medicines for Hepatitis A, Typhoid and that "some travellers" get vaccines for Japanese Encephalitis. They even warn They also warn about the Zika virus.
I personally have travelled to many parts of the world and have never taken any vaccines before but my partner is concerned.
Can anybody please shed some light on the subject?

Anyony who knows something about Sol Beach House Phu Quoc? I found this hotel on Hotels.com and I think it looks really nice. The price was also very good. But after looking at the pictures for a while, I realized that the pictures was not real.
I suppose it´s because the hotel is not finished, but I can´t find so much information about the hotel. Anyone with some information?
I am head to Vietnam next year and i want to use my mobile as a WiFi hot spot while i am traveling around. I was wondering witch of the phone companies have the best data and talk packages and a rough price. Any Info would be good.
I'm going to Hue in the middle of January, for 3-5 days. I want to stay at hostel with a good atmosphere to meet other travelers, i.e. if the hostel has a bar. I want a singel och double room by my own though.
There are some good hostels (like Oasis Bar & Hostel or Amy Hostel) in the central part, in busy area, but according to the reviews on Hostelworld, Booking.com etc it can be very noisy from night clubs right across the street.
There are more calm areas a few blocks away, but then the atmopshere at the hostel isn't very good when it comes to socializing with other people.
Am I looking for something that doesn't exist? A calm area where you can get a good nights sleep, but still be able to socialize and have a beer or two in the evening?
Hi guys I'm going to Da Nang next week from 13-20 December. Been doing research about the weather and they all said it's gonna rain. Would the weather in Da Nang in December be really rainy? Or just some showers? I'm so worried that I wouldn't see sunshine during my stay there :(
I want to travel by night train (soft sleeper) from Hanoi to Hue 4:th och 5:t of January. I will arrive at Hanoi December 31. Will it be easy to find a train ticket if I buy it four or five days in advance at the train station?
Are there any other places I can by i train ticket in Hanoi except at the main train station?
How far is the market from cruise port. I Will arrive by cruise ship and would like to walk around the city. How do we pronounce Cho which means market in Vietnamese.
Who has a recommendation for a good acupuncture doctor and TCM doctor ?
who has a recommendation for an inexpensive cooking course (especially street food)) in Hanoi. Previously, with shopping on the market.
I am traveling to Vietnam during Xmas and New Year's holidays. I wanted to bring some gifts for some people who help me in organizing the trip through Vietnam. Also, some souvenirs for places we will be visiting, villages, schools, etc. Any suggestions of what would be a nice token of appreciation for people in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos?? Thank you!
I'm planning to spend four nights in Sapa end of December. As I would love to go in daily trekking tours and would like to visit some villages around Sapa (please recommend me if you have visited any). Therefore my question is, should I book one accommodation for the all 4 nights (which means that I have to back to my accommodation at the end of the day) or is it better to spend a night in my first room and book other accommodations for the rest (which make my trekking tour as a one way tour!). Please also do advice me if you have tried any authentic and cheap homestay in Sapa or any village near to it.
I really do appreciate your huge help guys!
I'll be in Vietnam for 18 days, travelling by land from the south (HCMC) up to the north (SaPa). I would like you to recommend me a mobile operator (SIM card) which offers a good coverage with low price. I'll only need it for light browsing and emergency calls.
Hi, who has a recommendation for a cheap, clean place to stay in Hanoi? Which area is recommended if I like it quiet?
I'm planning my trip to Vietnam in April 2016. We'll be arriving to Saigon from Siem Riep, Very probably by plane.
Still hesitating, because I want to go to Mekong delta for a couple of days. Meanwhile I consider as my best option - flying to Saigon and going from there. Still have in mind the other option - getting from Siem Riep through Pnom Pehn by river boats. This is one of the questions for you :)
So here is our plan by days
1. Arriving Saigon
2-3 Mekong delta - Is taking a tour the only possibility and what places exactly are the best (less touristic)?
4-5 Dalat. Probably flying there. But still the question is - is it worth long and rather expensive travel just to see what? a couple of waterfalls? What do you think?
From Dalat we'll take a bus to Nya Thrang, night traing to Danang on our way to Hoi An, where I hope to spend a couple of days -
7-9 Hoi Ann
12-15 Dong Hoi - caves and 2days trek - one of our must sees!
Last day we'll catch night train to Hanoi
16 - Night train to Sapa
17-20 Sapa and all possible hiking in the area.
Last night I want to catch a bus to Halong Bay - I've heard there is a new highway and it's only 5 hrs now without entering Hanoi. Anybody heard about this new service?
21-23 Halong Bay - not sure if I have to book from home or wait till we get to Hanoi. As usual, I want the off-the bitten-track route - or as far from the busy tourist route as possible.
24-25 Hanoi and going home!
This is my plan and I'll be glad to hear any critic/remarks.
We are hiking and moving-all-the-time, not too extreme, but definitely not soaking-on-the-beach type of family, no small kids, open to any suggestions.
Thank you beforehand
Hello, I would like to visit Vietnam in early January 2017 for 2 weeks and look for malarie-free areas. I would like to go to Hanoi, Halong Bay and 1 week beach holiday. In the north it should be only around 20 degrees in January. For the visit of Hanoi does not disturb. But for the beach holiday it should be warmer. The beaches north of Nha Trang are said to be malaria free. Who knows? thank you
I will be flying to HCM city on 19 Dec and flying out from Hanoi on 6 January. I would like to receive some suggested itineraries, based on your own experience. I'm basically interested in historical places, nature and temples.
Hi everyone! Me and 2 of my friends will be travelling next month from HCMC to Hanoi for 7 days. Any suggestions on how to go about this? Where is the best place to stay in Hanoi? Train schedules? Tips and recommendations? We are planning to stop in Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue in between. Any info will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot!
as greek citizens we must have a visa to enter vietnam (we want a single entry and staying there for about 3 weeks)
is it better to do it at the Athens embassy directly or using the popular visa on arrival (VoA) method?
any idea if the cost is the same?
are the queues very long if we go with VoA?
I want a single room when I take the 1 night cruise in Halong Bay, transportation starting from Hanoi i January.
Does anyone know any other tour operator with single supplement?
Hi there, I'm a UK citizen and I had my passport and wallet stolen in HCMC. I've now got an emergency passport and am in the process of getting all the visas I need for my onward journey.
However I'm a bit confused... My flight back to the UK involves a one and a half hour stop over in Delhi to change planes. On the UK gov site it says that people travelling on an ETD ( emergency passport) need a visa and TWO ETD's - one to enter Delhi and one to leave Delhi. I'm having trouble finding out if this is true as I've had no reply to my emails and can't get through on the phone to the Indian Embassy. Can anyone help?
Hi we are group of 4 travelling to Vietnam on 12th Nov 2016. Can we get visa on arrival after showing the approval letter from vietnam immigration. If yes what is the procedure to get this approval letter?
I am moving to Hanoi in a couple of weeks for work and will need to get around fairly quickly to different areas (teaching in different language centres). I was wondering if the buses are fairly easy and stress free to use a couple of times a day to get around, because I reeeeally don't want to get a bike. Thanks!
