hi, we're going to the USA with our twelve year old daughter and need to choose between New York and Orlando for a four to five day trip. we need to go to indianapolis after this trip to visit relatives. Please advice as to which is the better option with respect to both, activities and expense. Thanks in advance.
I'm going to miss this site!!!Love getting replays from locals as much as I like helping others when they come to Australia.
Anyway.....Anyone know the best tour company to visit Tillicum? A tour that offers either a Tuesday /Wednesday or Thursday in May?
We are considering to visit Miami beach in January 2018
Does anyone know if this is a good time for a beach holiday?
We are living I Norway and would like to have some sun and warmth when it is winter time here.
Does anyone have facts about a nice not to expensive hotel as well?
Turid in Norway
We will be travelling in America this March, so we have decided to rent a car. We have heard that there are roads which require payments. 1. How can we pay these fees? Cash, credit card? Could rented car use sunpass and toll-by-plate? If yes, how to get it online? 2. What insurance car needs to have zero excess?
Thank you in advance :)
I am gonna have a bit of a layover in Houston before flying out of terminal D. Looking for some suggestions for a good place to have a couple of beers and possibly charge my phone. Any ideas?
Me and a friend are planning of going to Yosemite valley in about a week (17-18 feb 2017). Will we be able to drive there from the west (Mariposa) without any snow chains on the car? Is the road even open?
Thanks in advance for answer!
Is it easier to catch the subway from John F Kennedy or LGA? thanks (typed out JFK for enough words to get it in the system.
Staying at the holiday inn express Newport for 3 nights...no car...
Already booked and paid after I realised not walking distance to beach at all...
Can uber to Laguna one day and I thought these 2 islands would be a great idea...
I know I asked yesterday about Florida but we are also looking at Palm/Desert Springs California - what is the weather liable to be like in November
Will the roads be snow free to Las Vegas and what is the weather liable to be like in Vegas in November.
Plan to possibly fly to Los Angeles - use Desert/Palm Springs and tour from there and possibly take a few days out to visit Vegas - could even fly into Vegas if the flights were cheaper
Many thanks for so many questions
I have a phobia about alligators and yet I want somewhere warm for an end of Nov/Dec break. Are there any alligators on the beach at this time of the year - does anyone have personal knowledge of the situation
Apart from Disney what other attractions are there - we would like to do some touring but looking at the crime rate in Charleston/New Orleans we are scared as we came close to being run off the road in Washington DC near the Jeffereson library Plan to stay about 2-3 weeks so could do 1000/1500 miles comfortably with hotels interspersed
Can I add my thanks to VT which has been invaluable to me and enabled me to stay safe and see lots of places I wouldn't have seen. Only hope there is a last minute reprieve

I need some advice for travel. I want to go to Las Vegas this fall and then drive by car to Grand Canyon and etc.
My plan looks like this:
First Day - Pick up the Car, drive to Hoover Dam and then to Tusayan
Second Day - Visit Grand Canyon. We are not really "hiking people", so everything that takes more thatn 2hrs round trip is probably to much. But as i seen on then internet, most places are pretty accesible by car or shuttle.
Third Day - Drive to Page, visit the Slot Canyons arount 11 AM (tours start then). and visit Horseshoe Bend in the afternoon
Fourth Day - Drive from Page to Bryce Canyon (about 3hrs). Anything nice to see on the way there?
Fifth Day - Visit Bryce Canyon
Sixt Day - Drive to Springdale for Zion NP (about 2hrs). Anything nice to see on the way there?
Seventh Day - Zion NP (visit The Narrows)
Eight Day - Zion NP - What should we do too?
Ninnth Day - Spend morning in Zion then drive back to Vegas, Anything nice to see on the way there?
What do you think, is it a good plan? Should we spend less/more at a specific place? We have read that roads in this area are usually straight and not crowded, so driving shouln't be a hussle.
Any help is appreciated
We are arriving at 26.September at LAX
Our flight - LX40 Swiss - will arrive at 4:30PM, we checked online that is usually on time.
We want to fly the same day from LAX to Las vegas. How much stopover time should we calculate?
7:05 PM - Delta
9:05 PM - United
10:40 PM - United
We currently looking at the 7:05 PM, but we don't know, is 2.5 hrs enough for transfer - to less or to much?
Hi! Dies anyone know of a room for rent or an apartment for rent that has weekly rates? I will be staying in International Falls for 3 weeks. Staying at a hotel would be costly. Thanks!
Just looking for any tips/advice on my forthcoming trip to NY. Am staying in Brooklyn as want to be near the Barclay Centre and staying in the Best Western Plus Prospect Park Hotel (unless anyone can recommend somewhere else) . will be there at the beginning of April, dont have a high budget so looking for bargains (arent we all). Things like best way to get around, to get from Brooklyn to NYC, restaurants/cafes to visit, only there 5 nights so want to try and do as much as possible. Also why is the site closing down?
Do you recommend a winter hiking boot for March/April ? Also, is a down jacket warm enough?
Visiting San Antonio first weekend in February but desperate to watch the England v France game on the 4th. Is there anywhere in San Antonio or immediate area that we cold do this? Many thanks
The original VT Founder, Tilman and I have put up a page with tutorials on how to back up your VT Member Pages using 3rd party publicly available programs and utilities. This site also has a forum so that people can keep in touch and help each other out. If we decide to do anything in the future with the grassroots collaboration of VT members, we'll talk about it there. This site is:

Thank you very much for your feedback back in 2015 regarding west coast travel advice. My trip to USA was memorable and its because of your feedback.
Now I will be going to the east coast this year. My tentative travel date is from 26 May - 18 June. I wish to see the east coast. I don't want this trip to be a hectic one so I want to see important places and spend some time in New York just taking it easy. I know this sounds a little vague because you may ask how many days you want to spend where and so on. But I want you to guide me here as you know how many days (approx) I would have in hand. The last few days I want to do some shopping.
I think I should at least go to Boston, New York, DC and Niagara falls. I also wish to visit few good universities there as I wish to pursue a masters in the futue.
Your advice will be appreciated.
We're planning a road trip to Washington (State) in July and I'd be interested in your views about the timing. Are we likely to encounter more crowds if we go immediately after July 4th rather than a bit later in the month, or is it just going to get busier if we leave it till the second half of the month? I do already know we should avoid Mount Rainier NP at weekends so we'll factor that into our planning.
Figured I had better ask this now, as can't later. My husband and I generally travel with a 5-th wheel trailer, but are considering maybe trying out staying in a condo, apartment, house, etc. short term instead in the coming years. This would be for a 2 - 3 week stay in the US. So far I have found HomeAway and VRBO as possible helpful sources. I would appreciate any advice as to if these are the best ones, and/or are there others that are also valuable sources.
We will rent a car in fall 2017 in the USA for about 3 Weeks.
I noticed that all the rental companies want to charge arount 150-500$ for a Navigation System. This is really much, compared to the 1500$ rental cost!!
They will use these standart "window mount" navigation devices i guess.
We don't want to pay that much, so i was looking for options.
Would you reccomend buying a GPS in an eletronic store?
I saw a lot of them for like 80-120$, and if you once have one, you can use it on all your future travels in us
Since where not from us, a device that tells us the current speed limit would be nice!:)
I have a gap of about 4 days between my grandson's graduation in Tallahassee on Friday or Saturday and my granddaughter's wedding in Summerville SC on the following Saturday. Where can I go and stay for four days that is somewhat between Tallahassee and Summerville. I thought of Jekyll Island, St. Simons' Island, or St. Augustine, but I have been to all those places a couple of times. I've also stayed in Hilton Head for a week (hated it), and visited Savannah. I'd rather be in a small place than a big city.
We live in Perth W.Australia and plan to visit Kona for the Ironman in October (as spectator only) and plan to be there for 2-3 weeks. We regularly spectate at 70.3s and full Ironmans in Australia/Asia, great to watch.
Can anyone please suggest/recommend good location to stay (and possible condos/hotels/airB&B) within easy reach of start and transitions.
Many thanks. Penny
Hey I was wondering if anyone knows of any cabin rentals in the Poconos or near. I'm not looking to go skiing, just horseback riding and just want that country feel! I've never been there but only live about an hour and half away. I just keep getting sponsored places when searching.. And nothing seems suitable
Hi. I posted another question about where to stay but am now more specific with areas. We will be going to Universal one day, Warner Brothers tour, doing things near Hollywood Blvd area, and then exploring other tourist things.
Which area/hotel is better...near Universal City (Studio City hotel) or Hollywood Blvd (Hollywood Celebrity hotel), near but off Hollywood Blvd a bit (Days Inn) or Thai Town (Dixie Hotel)? We will have a car but am thinking one of those.
Have narrowed it down to one of those based on budget and not being too far from Universal and Hollywood Blvd area. We have Hollywood Celebrity booked (but we can cancel).
Planning a trip to Alaska on 18feb for about 1week. Planning to catch the northern lights. Do you think its the right time? Will fly into Anchorage and will take the train to Fairbank. Will spend a few days there. Any recommended place to visit? Thought of renting a car to move around, is it a good idea? Or good to just join any tours? Will spend a few days too in Anchorage after Fairbank. Any suggestions where and its a must to visit while in Alaska? Top priority is to try catch the northern lights. Recommended place to be? Thanks and hear from all of you.
Planning a trip to Portland USA end of Feb 2017 after my Alaska trip for about 6days. Planning to rent a car to move around while there. Any suggestions as to where I should visit in Portland and mayb any nearby city that its a worth to visit too while there? Hear from you soon and thanks in advance.
We're going to Orlando in late March/early April for 14 nights. 2 adults and 2 kids (5 and 7). Flights and hotel booked but now the dreaded investigation into Disney tickets, what to do, where to eat, etc!!
If anyone can help with some sort of broad itinerary and helpful tips/hints/recommendations, that would be amazing! I've picked up a couple of brochures from travel agents and spoke to some people but it all seems a bit overwhelming!
We want to visit the main Disney parks and Universal (main reason I'm going is for Harry Potter world!) and do some shopping at the outlets. If we can fit it in, a trip to Kennedy Space Center would be great but since it's our first time in Orlando, I suspect that we'll be consumed with Disney/Universal.
Thanks in advance!
Young senior couple staying in Santa Monica with a car for 10 days in late February and thinking of a day trip to Joshua Tree National Park. Is that feasible? And if so, can I add a stop in Palm Springs to the day trip?
