Need help for itinerary for 12 days and transportation time

Sri Lanka Nov 25, 2016 at 7:54 PM

Day 1 I will be arriving late at 11pm. I plan to go Negombo (overnigh at Negombo)
Day 2: Negombo morning by bus to Anuradhapura (overniight at Annuradhapura)
Day 3: Anuradhapura afternoon by bus to Polonnaruwa (overnight at Polonnaruwa)
Day 4: Polonnaruwa (overnight at Polonnaruwa)
Day 5: Polonnaruwa by bus to Damublla (overnight at Damublla)
Day 6: Sigiliya, Pidurangala Rock(overnight at Damublla)
Day 7: Damublla by bus to Kandy (overnight at Kandy)
Day 8: Kandy by train to Nuwara-Eliya old train station (overnight at 住Nuwara-Eliya)
      Day 9: Nuwara-Eliya (overnight at Nuwara-Eliya)
Day 10: Nuwara-Eliya by bus to Delhousie (overnight at Delhousie)
Day 11: early morning climb Adam's Peak, Delhousie by bus to Galle (overnight at Galle)
Day 12: Galle afternoon by train to Colombo and then to Negombo (overnight at Negombo)
      Day 13: early morning flight

      1. Is that arrangement workable? I can take out Adam's Peak so as to give way to a more reasonable itinerary instead of rushing.
      2. I notice that most people go Delhousie from Kandy. To fit into my friend's schedule as he will not do that, I will go from Nuwara-Eliya. Is there direct bus/transportation from Nuwara-Eliya to Delhousie?
      3. If I take out Adam's Peak, what place should I stay longer?
      4. Beside Days 8 & 12 that I am pretty sure to take train, for other days, is bus better than train?
      5. How frequent is the bus in Sri Lanka? If there is only one or two a day, is my plan feasible?
      Thank you.

      Hotel recommendations??

Sri Lanka Nov 25, 2016 at 5:23 AM

      Hi everyone,
We are leaving on the 6 th next month and super excited
      Needed some advice on hotels
Has anyone stayed in the Kala bongo lake resort or the oasis villa in Hikkaduwa??? They are both around 70 dollars for the night ( including breakfast) . If not, can someone recommend me another hotel around the same budget??
In Kandy, we are planning to book villa 49 which has got good reviews in both booking and trip advisory. Has anyone stayed there before??
Would be great to get some answers
      Thank you so much

Child Friendly beaches in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Nov 21, 2016 at 3:20 AM

I will be traveling to Sri Lanka in January 2nd week. We are 2 couples with kids of about 3.5 years of age. Are the beaches safe to take the kids into (with us of course)? This means we will be playing a lot on the beach and wetting our knees in the sea. We wanted to stay either south or west coast as I believe the east coast may be rained out?

Any thoughts will be most useful.

    • December 2016 Holiday

Sri Lanka Nov 16, 2016 at 7:27 AM

      Hi,

My partner and I are traveling around Sri Lanka for 2 weeks in December (16 December to 03 January) and we are SO excited, but very unfamiliar with the country. We need help with suggestions for accommodation that is both convenient, nice and not too expensive. We have looked online but want a more personal opinion / recommendations.

We are staying in the following places:
      1. Kandy (1 night)
      2. Sigiriya (1 night, after a day in Dambulla)
      3. Kandy (2 nights)
      4. Nuwara Eliya (2 nights)
      5. Ella (2 nights)
      6. Tangalle (3 nights)
      7. Unatawuna (3 nights, day trip to Galle)
      8. Bentota (3 nights)

We aren't sure how much time to dedicate to Ella and Nuwara Eliya, but at the moment those are our plans.

Any suggestions for decent accommodation in those cities would be much appreciated. And even suggestions for our itenerary.

Thanks so much. We are really looking forward to our holiday!

    • best place to stay with unlimited budget

by KaterinaBalerina Online Now Jun 3, 2016 at 12:44 AM

dear travelers, please advice a decent place to stay in Una.
      - on the beach
      - 4-5 star hotel (that really worth the price, not like those on tripadvisor or booking.com, that are extremely overpriced and do not match their star rate) or bungalo that also will fit for 4 star place (clean and new bathroom, toiletters, hair dryer, new white bed sheets etc.)
      - pool and bar optional
We visited Sri Lanka once and we really liked it but never stayed at Una beach. Hotels we loved were Amaya Lake in Dambulla and Mars hotel in Tangalle.
Also regarding nightlife, is it only Jungle beach to party and dance?

by KaterinaBalerina Online Now Jun 3, 2016 at 12:27 AM

      Dear travelers,
Please advice a decent place to stay in Una in earliest august. It is our honeymoon and budget is unlimited, but we want to get a valuable place if we pay good money for it,
      We need:
      -stay on the beach
      -close to bars and restaurants
-4-5 star hotel or bungalo which is well maintained with nice bathroom
      -pool and bar area (opt)
From what I saw on tripadvisor and booking.com - all 4-5 star hotels do not match their rate and are crazy overpriced. I though found some good options on Airbnb, but just 2, maybe you can recommend something really nice?
Also about nightlife... Is it only Jungle Beach parties nearby or there are some other places to go?

    • Unawatuna beach

by RadanaH Online Now Mar 17, 2015 at 7:09 AM

Hello all,I booked a 5 night stay (no weekend date) at a guesthouse with great reviews at the end of our 14-day trip. What I am worried about is the local beach, I have been reading recently that it gets really overcrowded (even dirty). Is it really that bad or I can find a quiet part nearby as well to feel just the sand and palms? My plan was to end up our Sri Lanka trip in a paradise feel beach environment :-) where we can swim/snorkel safely. Thank you for your advice!

Train the best way from Colombo to Unawatuna? What about toilets on the trip??

by Bladewings Online Now Dec 21, 2014 at 7:14 PM

I was going to go to Bentota but now Unawatuna beach looks very nice. It is a bit of a further trip. Are there any clean toilets on the trains? The trip is a bit over 2 hours and I'll be with my son. It could be a real problem!

Hi, can anyone recommend a clean cabana/bungalow/hut with private shower that has direct access to the beach? Nearby restaurants, snorkeling facilities etc. would be a plus. Price range: 50-70 USD. Time: 15-17th january. Our ideal match Gallawatta is unfortunately booked.

Hi there, what would be the best beach to stay on with a two year old in Februray? We're "old backpackers" and prefer to avoid package tour masses and resort type of places. We'll also be travelling on a budget seeking some relaxed vibe and yoga classes if possible. Thanks for all your answers.

by mikeytiger Online Now Oct 13, 2005 at 4:31 AM

      Hi,
Is there anyone who can give me an update on the present situation in the areas of Galle, Unawatuna, Dalawella, etc. I plan to come on vaccation in December but I need to know if things get back to normal slowly after the Tsunami in Dec 2004. I don´t want to see people suffering and trying to survive somehow whilst I am sitting on the beach relaxing! If this is the case I would rather donate the money for the trip. Don´t understand me wrong.......I simply just don´t like to make people feel bad because they are struggling and I am making holiday at the same time!I just want to be polite!
So? Is Unawatuna ready for some tourists and visitors or would it be better to stay at home?? Greetings MIKE

by Hotspring Online Now Jul 19, 2005 at 6:06 AM

      Hi

I am travelling to Sri Lanka in August. Flying into Colombo then heading to Kandy for a few days. We are then going to head to Arugam Bay and were thinking of heading to Unawatuna on the way back to Colombo for our flight home.

How are things after the Tsunami, are people happy to receive visitors yet? What is the weather like in August? Is there much accomodation available. Is the sea calm enough for snorkelling at that time of year and are there any good snorkelling spots? Is it possible to hire drivers from Arugam to Unawatuna or are there better methods of transport?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
