    • RER to CDG or Shuttle service

      France Jul 17, 2016 at 10:04 AM

Have been to Paris previously. This trip my hotel is near Odeon metro stop & St. Germaine. I took RER to CDG last time and had no delay and service was good. Is it easy to get to RER from this location? Hotel is Grand deBalcons. Or, is a shuttle service better choice, and not too expensive. If I can get picked up at hotel would consider shuttle. Need to get there for A/F flight to Copenhagen leaving 1:40pm on a Saturday. Think I got RER last time from GareduNord so RER might be fastest service. Thank you to all for assistance.

Hi. I would like to take the RER E train to Gard Nord. Does anyone know where the entrance to RER E is at St Lazare? Is it in St Lazare Station or is it on Haussmann Blvd? The reason I am asking is that coming from Gard Nord to St Lazare, you have to walk from Blvd Haussmann (where the RER leaves you) to St Lazare Station.

      Quirky restaurant

      Nice Jul 10, 2016 at 10:48 AM

Years ago we ate in a restaurant in Nice that was owned by an elderly woman and her sister or daughter (can't quite remember). It was in the old town and it was very basic, I don't think there was even a menu, you just ate what you were served. It was all local, homemade food. Can anyone tell me the name of the restaurant and whether or not it's still there?

      France Jul 20, 2016 at 8:39 PM

i am currently staying in Paris and in one and a half months my 90 days Schengen visa will be expired. i was reading that if i'll leave France to the UK for 3 months, i will be able to go back afterwards into Schengen area with no legal problems.

      a. is that true at all ?

      b. i guess that in order to prove that i was out of Schengen (meaning in the UK) during those 3 months i will need to show the stamps on my passport from the UK. it means that i have to take a flight (and not a train) from France to the UK. is that correct ?

Does anyone know what TIME the markets will be open for business on opening day? Do they open in the morning or is there some sort of big ceremony to officially open the markets in the evening? old writers club in Little France

by capability Online Now Jun 29, 2015 at 3:20 PM

As you walk towards Little France ( from ? NW) and just before the half timbered houses begin there is a vegetarian olde worlde cafe. There were pictures of some famous writers on the wall of the stairway leading to an upper floor. Apparently some rich benefactor had put forward money for a writers club to have its meetings there. I think this was in the 1800s or early 1900s but could be earlier. I can't remember the name of the place or the full history. Anyone help?

I was just in Strasbourg last week at the Christmas markets. I purchased some items at the Cathedral Market at a vendor right by the tourist information shop. I want more from this vendor, but she didn't speak English and I paid with cash. Have tried the Strasbourg tourist dept and got no where.

Does anyone have any ideas or know of a shopper for hire (in the US, we would call them personal shoppers) ? thanks

by larryrose Online Now May 22, 2014 at 10:54 PM

We arrive in Strasbourg by train at 11am on a Tuesday from spending 8 nights in Paris. First time visitors to France. We wont have a car. What can we see and do in 2 days in early August in Strasbourg? Are there 1 day cruises up the Rhine? Can we cross into Germany easily by bus to a quaint little town, or would you say that Strasbourg is very similar to boarder towns - maybe even prettier? We will of course walk around Le Petitte France and take a water cruise around the island.

The day we leave Strasbourg, we pick up a car and drive to Colmar for 3 nights. What can we see and do along the way to Colmar ?

Perhaps it is from the cathedral walking across the tramway in direction of Grand’ Rue. Somewhere there in one of those narow streets.

      Road to Mont St.-Odille

by sindar225 Online Now Jan 26, 2014 at 10:19 PM

      Hi everyone!

I'm going to visit Strasbourg in the end of March and, for sure, I intend to see some attractions there. One of the most attractive places I want to see is Mont St.-Odille, but there is a trouble. I found out that there is no direct bus(or any kind of transport) from Strasbourg to St.-Odille in this period. The closest point the bus 257 goes to is Ottrott, but there is still few kilometres to go on foot. It seems inconvenient.

Is there any better way to get to Mont St.Odille without long walking on foot?

Hi, I will be heading to either Colmar or Strasbourg on the 30th of Dec from Munich and spending two nights there. I will be going to Paris on the 1st of Jan. Would it be possible to visit both Strasbourg and Colmar in this time. For example, could I base myself in Strasbourg but also add a visit to Colmar since it's a short train ride? Or would I be better off choosing one over the other? I know that I won't be able to see everything I want in such a short amount of time, but I am having great difficulty deciding which place to go!

I'd like to see the Christmas markets and of course the lovely wooden architecture (as the major priorities) and all other sites as a bonus in the short time I will be there. I enjoy good food and taking in the sights. I will be traveling with my partner.
