    • Early summer holiday.

      Greece Jan 11, 2017 at 3:05 AM

Sorry to hear this site is shutting down.

I had an incredible summer honeymoon in Switzerland thanks entirely to commenters on this forum. I'm really grateful.

This question is very broad but I thought I might get lucky again!

Hoping for a may/June family holiday this year.
Traveling with a three year old and a one year old.
Beach, hotel, pools, nature, good food, an old town nearby.
We really want it to be child friendly with food and drink readily available but not too big a complex.
We'd love to visit a Greek island, also considering Italy and France, I'll post over there too.

Many thanks if you have any thoughts!

    • Kefalonia or not?

      Greece Jan 1, 2017 at 4:40 AM

      Dear VT Fine Folk:

Anyone here spent much time on the island of Kafalonia (aka: "Cephalonia") in the Ionian Islands (& Sea).
      Any advice?
For, say, a one or two week stay in the spring -- is Lixouri or Argostoli best? Looks like Argostoli has a loud,
busy airport near downtown? Or Not?

Perhaps Zakythos (aka: "Zante") just to the south of Kefalonia is better?

Thanks ahead of time for all & any tips!

    • Lost restaurant in Sparta, Greece

by Quebecanuck Online Now Feb 13, 2008 at 5:43 PM

Last year my wife and I had a wonderful trip to Greece. One small disappointment was that we could not find a restaurant serving Greek grilled (not fried) chicken.
We finally found one in Sparta. We stumbled on it returning from a search for a restaurant which turned out to be a vacant lot. A friend will be in Sparta with little free time, and would like to know where it is. We don't know. Unfortunately, we do not have a good map of Sparta, and Google is not useful.

Some clues. I believe we were on Odos Ton (labeled confusingly on one Internet map as Tripoleos), which starts at the junction of Thermopylon and Palaeolgou and runs north-east. The small restaurant was on the north side, very plain, with all the ambience of a McDonald’s. But it did have good grilled chicken. On the other hand, my wife remembers the street as being smaller, so possibly on a side street close to Ton. Also, we have a receipt which may be from that restaurant, and it may list the address as Parnassus 32. We don't know Greek, so this could be wrong (I tried to insert the name in Greek here, but it displays as numbers). Anyway, my limited map doesn't show a "Parnassus".

Not a lot to go on, I know. But perhaps someone reading this is either from Sparta or has a good map and can make sense of this. Please?
