Music in Vienna--other than formal concerts

      Vienna Jul 18, 2016 at 6:57 AM

I will be spending a few days in Vienna next month and would like to find a restaurant and/or bar with easy listening music--even piano music perhaps featuring Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, or "quiet/dreamy" artists. Or even traditional Austrian music without the "touristy" vibe. Is anybody familiar with such a place with a charming atmosphere? Thank you in advance. Linda

      Things to do in/around Leibnitz

      Leibnitz Jul 18, 2016 at 6:55 AM

I will be spending one day/night in Leibnitz in August. Any suggestions as to what to see/do? Does anybody know whether or not there is wine tasting in Schloss Seggau? Is the wine cellar worth visiting? What is a good place to eat Austrian cuisine? Any suggestions for a quaint/gemütlich Buschenschank that I could walk to? I will not have a car. Thanks.

      Hi,

In August we (a late 20s couple) are traveling from Bratislava to Vienna to Salzburg. Do you think we should take a train or a bus? Also, do you have any recommendations on which train or bus company and if the tickets should be purchased in advance?

Many thanks for your assistance :)

    • Semmering ski trip

by WendyG Online Now Jul 27, 2007 at 4:07 AM

      Hi,
I'm from Australia, and I will be travelling to Vienna solo for one week in early Dec (2-8 Dec). I am considering whether to go ski in Semmering since it is one of the few ski resorts close to Vienna. I would like to know when the ski season starts there in Semmering, and whether it will be too crowded in early December? Also, are there many hostels or alternative sorts of accomodation (cheaper accomodation) apart from Grandhotel Panhans, if so how far are they from the ski mountain? Does anyone know where (a website) I can check up for prices of ski hire and ski passes there?
Since I am travelling solo, I'd like to know as much information as possible for peace of mind.

      Appreciate your response.

    • Day Trip to Semmering?

by sharonjiles Online Now Nov 28, 2004 at 2:11 PM

My son and daughter-in-law will be in Vienna Dec. 21-30. They want to take a day trip to a beautiful mountainous/ski resort area that is not too far from Vienna. From what I can find out, it seems that Semmering/Hirschenkogel would be a good place for them to spend a day. Questions: Will the train ride from Vienna to Semmering have beautiful scenery? Is the train station right in the middle of the town? Are there taxis in town? There will be lots of snow there, won't there? How far is the cable car to Hirschenkogel from the train station? Can you ride the cable car up and back down just to look around, or is it just for people who are actually skiing? Is there a restaurant on top? Tell me about the main town of Semmering---is it small enough to walk around to shops and restaurants without freezing to death? How long a walk is it to the Grand Hotel Pannhaus from the train station? I have also read about a ski area called Stulech that I thought was at Semmering---if not, where is it?? Any information you could give me about a nice day trip to Semmering would be a wonderful help----I will pass it along to my son---I'm his "travel researcher." Looking forward to hearing from someone. Thanks so much, Sharon Jiles
