    • Family Vacation Help

      Spain Nov 24, 2016 at 10:32 PM

      Hi, everyone,

I'm hoping to get a little help with a possible vacation to Spain this coming summer for two or three weeks. I'm pretty lost so far in terms of cities, neighborhoods, etc. It would be my husband, our kids (6 and 4), and me. In an ideal world, I'd love a trip that:

-allows us to spend time with locals (I have read that kids often play outside until late at night, and I'd love my kids to experience that, especially since my son goes to a Spanish immersion school)
-is close to the beach for at least part of the trip
-does not require renting a car
      -is close to kid-friendly activities

If you have any advice for me (the more specific, the better!), I'd greatly appreciate it!!

      Thanks!

    • Best place to stop for a night between San Sebastian & Granada?

      Spain Nov 13, 2016 at 8:26 AM

      Hello,

I will be driving from San Sebastian to Granada at the end of June and would like to stop somewhat half way. It looks like Madrid is about half way, but I have never been there so I don't know what driving there is like. Can you recommend a place maybe just outside that city that would still make it easy to get into with public transportation or maybe another city that would be worth visiting for a day?

We will also be going to Valencia for about a week in early June. Any recommendations for good neighborhoods to stay in? We will have our small dog, and love to be able to walk to markets and restaurants. Not really big nightlife people,

      Thanks so much!

travel to the French Basque country

by ohaiyo Online Now May 4, 2016 at 2:46 PM

      Hi,
I am debating whether to fly into St. Jean de Luz and use it as a base to explore Bayonne and Sare and Ainhoa or fly into San Sebastian and use that as a base to go for day trips into the French part of the Basque country. I will not be driving but will be using buses or trains. I will be there during the last week of September. Is it possible to do day trips form San Sebastian to Bayonne and Sare and Ainhoa by using buses or trains?

We would like to travel by bus from San Sebastian to Bayonne where we will stay one night before taking a train to Toulouse.  Does anyone know the bus schedule and if you have to buy a ticket beforehand?  I have read that there is not a real bus station in San Sebastian but bus parking spots and called Amara.   Also, do these buses accommodate luggage?

Or would it be easier to take a train?

Day 1: Visit Bilabao - Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
Day 2 - Visit San Sebastian old town and La Concha beach, visit Tapas bars.

This looked to a very basic itinerary. Can some one provide me places to visit ? or may be an itinerary ?

I checked the distance between San Sebastian and Perpignan and it is around 550kms -via Toulouse. The ways i find to get from one place to the other by bus or train are complex though, and around 800kms, via Barcelona or Pamplona. Why is that? Is there a cheap and comfortable way (I would go for a night train or bus, so that i can sleep overnight and not lose a day of my precious week for the Basque and some France trip) to go from San Seb to Perpignan? Can anyone recommend an area to stay, we want to be near the centre. I don't know much about SS. Is it flat? We are both in our 70's and although fit wouldn't want to tackle anything too hilly. It seems to be quite compact from reading about it on line but I haven't found out any info in great detail. Many thanks
