Myrtle Beach May 17, 2016 at 10:35 AM

We're driving from Chicago to Garden City, SC (20 miles from Myrtle Beach) this weekend. We'll have kids ranging from 7 to 2 1/2. We'd like to spend an afternoon doing something fun on the way down to break up the trip a little. And we're also looking for suggestions in the Myrtle Beach/Garden City area, especially rainy day stuff, as the ocean and pool will probably take care of the nice days. We were thinking of stopping in Smokey Mt. Nat'l Park, at the north visitor center, near Gatlinburg. Does anyone have any specific suggestions for easy hikes or anything to do fairly close to the visitor center. We'll only have the 7 and 4 year old with us on the way down.

    • 6 Days in Denver

      Denver Yesterday

Hey...My husband, daughter (6 1/2) and myself will be traveling to Denver for the first time next month. Ideally, we'd like to visit: Boulder, Ft Collins, Estes Park, Red Rock Park and Denver as well. I was hoping for some pointers on where to go specifically within these cites? As of now, we've booked a hotel in Lone Tree, but I feel the daily commute would be exhausting. Thoughts? Is Lone Tree close to thriving, lively parts of Denver? Luckily, we can amend our reservation and book a few hotels/ Air BNB in each location (if necessary) I am wondering where it would make sense to stay if we decide to stay sleep in location? If Denver is the answer, which specific neighborhood? We would like do some fun, family friendly activities as well as some adult outings for us. Any specific tours, festivals, areas to check out? We would love to go hiking and be outdoors, too. Visiting 6/28 - 7/3. If there are specific events not to be missed, please do share. Appreciate your assistance! - Edie

      Bonneville - tour? public transport?

by darrensunley Online Now Apr 17, 2016 at 2:26 PM

      Hi,

Myself and a couple of friends are going to be visiting the US in September (the weeks of the 5th and 12th) and we’re currently thinking of taking in Salt Lake City as part of our itinerary. Looking on the web it appears that there are some racing events taking place whilst we would be there – and I’m very keen to try to see if we can get out to see one of them.

I’ve done a bunch of reading about the events but, thus far, I’ve not managed to see any information about getting to/from the Bonneville salt flats other than by car. I was wondering if there you could tell me if there’s any public transport options between SLC and the salt flats – or is hiring a car our only option?

Of perhaps there is some paid-for coach tour that allows you to do a daytrip from SLC to the flats, watch the event, then return to SLC in the evening?

Also, what time of day do things generally begin/end?
(i.e. so we know what time we could leave SLC)

Any other tips for a first-timer?

      Thanks in advance,

      Darren

Ps :- Finally, I read that events got cancelled for the last couple of years… is this year any more likely to go ahead? How far in advance is it usually known if an event will be cancelled?

      Hi everyone

We are four guys travelling to SLC in March 2012. As we will be fully equipped with a ski bag and a piece of luggage each, I was wondering if there is any advice on the best way to get to a downtown hotel without too much hassle with dragging our equipment around. I imagine a regular cab would not hold that much, so are there private shuttle companies with bigger vans that can be rented or some other options we should know about? Shuttle busses perhaps?

Since we are from Europe, we don't have much clue as to cab fares, bus ticket prices and other costs, so any advice at all is really appreciated.

      Thanks a lot

Hi, we are planning to visit SLC for a week in late June. We are accompanying our daughter who is attending a seminar at the University of Utah. I am hoping that we can get some travel advice on our stay here. First, are there day trips that anyone can recommend besides the attractions in SLC? Since our daughter will not be staying with us during the trip, I was also wondering if there any any overnight trips we can take? We very much enjoy the outdoors, especially walking in the higher elevation cooler areas. Any recommendations on what to do, where to stay (moderate rates) and interesting places to eat (including vegetarian) , would be most appreciated.

      Hi everyone,

Since I joined VT in 2003, I have met over 100 VTers from all over the world. I've done meetings everywhere from New York to Amsterdam and from Cologne to Toronto. Whenever I'm abroad, and have a little time to spare, I try to meet some of the local VTers. And of course other VTers who are just visiting are welcome to.

Now, it so happens I will be in Salt Lake City for a few days in April. I was wondering if anyone living in the area is up for a night in the town. Have dinner somewhere, maybe a few drinks afterwards.

My best option is Sunday May 2nd. I'll put this in the Meetings Calendar as well.

      So..... who's game?
