Hello, Romania is member of Schengen or EU?
It seems that some of the permanent exhibit halls of the Romanian Peasant Museum/Muzeul National al Taranului Roman are closed this month during our visit. Are the open-air exhibits, which include the wooden church, open during the museum's closure? How about the wooden mill? Thank you so much for any information. Trying to figure out if we should still visit the museum.
our plan for the moment is:
arrive at Gare de Nord
bus to Revolution Square, check monuments, buildings and Romanian Athenaeum
walk south into Old Town
walk south to Unirii square, maybe short stop to Parliament Palace for photographs
back to hotel room (400m S of Unirii sq)
what will you add there?
from what I see most if not all museums in Bucharest close on mondays.
but is this case for all of them? I try to put some indoor attraction the day we will visit the capital but cant find something.
what would you do if you had one day in Bucharest?
we plan to arrive at the train station at about 11:30am so I'd like to hear an itinerary from there (with no taxi)
we will depart the next morning (no time for sightseeing that morning, just breakfast and bus to the airport)
We will arrive on friday evening so I guess banks will be closed that day but also for the weekend.
We wont have much time on saturday morning too as we have to catch the train to Sinaia so friday evening is the day we will change most money, my idea was to take some at the airport (just for transport) and then at an exchange office in the center before we check in at the hotel.
1)is any bank open at the airport after 19.00?
2)are there any reliable exchange offices in Buchurest city center?
my rough itinerary for an early november trip:
day 1 arriving at Bucharest airport in the evening, check in at hotel
day 2 train to Sinaia, visit Peles castle, train to Brasov
day 3 Brasov
day 4 back to Bucharest
day 5 flight out
1)is it possible to go to Sinaia, see Peles castle and take train to Brasov on the same day? Do I have to book train tickets in advance?
2)is first week of november a bad idea considering the weather?
3)should I skip Brasov for another trip and add a day for Bucharest?
4)which area is better to book hotel room in Bucharest? sector 1 or 3?
Hello, will soon be 48 year old man visiting Warsaw at end of September and would like to make a side trip to either Cluj Napoca or Timisora. I do not have time go do both. I am interested in beautiful, safe, clean, culture filled cities that are pedestrian friendly. Enjoy good dining, eclectic bars and strolling. Which one should I visit? Thank you, in advance.
We are planning/thinking of doing Romania mid September. How safe is it....also want to rent a car, is this advisable. Will fly into Bucharest, ....so how long should we stay there, what area is best for local and cultural sights. Then perhaps another week in and around the area. will be our first time in Romania so want to soak up as much as we can. We are young seniors so night life is not our scene! any further advice/tips would be so welcomed...Thanks in advance!
Maybe someone knows the price of cigarettes in OTP duty free?
I found only British reviews that is the same as the city or even higher because there is no duty free price for The European Union citizens.
But I am not from EU, so if someone knows if the price in the duty free (for purchase back to my country) is cheaper i appreciate this. I want to know if buy in Bucharest or in the airport before I'm leaving.
I smoke Parliament night or Davidof red.
I read that smoking in casinos banned in Romania.
My question is if this realy Enforced or maybe some casinos in Bucharest turns a blind eye and you can smoke in spite of it?
Or there are smoking areas where you can smoke and play simultaneously?
I play only slots, no tables.
If you know is something of these From personal experience, i will glad get a specific places and details.
Can anyone help with contacts for a taxi company that would take us from our Bucharest hotel to our Chisinau (Moldova) hotel?
Any idea of price so that I can compare it to flying which seems expensive for a one hour flight.
we are planning to cross the Fagaras mountains in August. We will be traveling to Romania by car and we need to park our car for 5 days during our hike. We will be crossing from West to East, so we plan to start at Sebeşu de Sus (small village near Sibiu).
is it safe to park our car in Sebeşu de Sus on the street? The car is nothing fancy, a 2014 Hyundai i30. Obviously we will not leave any valuables in the car.
As an alternative I was thinking to ask some of the locals if we can park in their gardens for some small fee, but we don't speak Romanian so I'm not sure how this would work out...

I would like to know how safe it is carrying expensive cameras and photographic equipment around. And are there any special issues in Costanta as a whole that one should be aware of.

Does anyone has a valid phone number where I can reserve a place at Cabana Omu and Cabana Babele (and maybe some other cabana's in the area, like "Piatra Arsa" and "Caraiman")?
How much it costs to stay there, on weekdays, in August?
Is there a cabana (or just a more expensive hotel) at the end of Pestera cable car?

Hi, I am looking for a tour company located in Cluj. I hope to have a weekend tour in May, even an overnight one and even outside Cluj, but I don't know of a company that offers this. I saw one , but I had to hire the whole van for me to drive around. I don't want to drive. I could be with a group, though.

They want to watch a match of Steaua Bucarest football team. But the team plays away. So they are planning to go to Giurgiu (near bulgarian border). I think just they are crazy and insane...
Someone made something like that? Is it dangerous?

I usually get around with trains, buses and maxitaxis. However, I understand that Maramures is lacking in these facilities. My main interest is in traditional dress and accompanying rural life. I didn't of course have trouble in southern Transylvania last year but understand Maramures is actually more colourful.
