      Bus to Salerno

      Positano Oct 4, 2016 at 10:23 AM

Have booked a 9:52am train from Salerno and am staying in Positano. Should we be able to make it using the buses or would it be wiser to spend the night before in Salerno?

    • Amalfi base in early April

      Sorrento Oct 18, 2016 at 4:57 PM

My fiance and I are planning out the details of our honeymoon, and will have 4 nights (2 full days, 2 partial days) to spend in the Amalfi region in the beginning of April. We will head there from Rome, and need to go back to Rome at the end of our last day for our flight home.

I've done a lot of research and I can't decide on the best city in the region to base ourselves; I'd appreciate some help in making that decisions. I am aware that it is low season and some hotels will be closed and the buses/ferries will be more limited.

Things that we want to do/see (hopefully with fairly easy transport from our base) -
      - Pompeii
      - coastal views, hiking, +/- horseback riding if we can find somewhere reasonably priced and the weather cooperates
      - possibly Paestum (both ruins and mozzarella) - if we have time, not super high on the priority list
      - not sure about Capri, leaning against it

Things we are less interested in -
      - shopping, souvenir shops
      - beach time (not the time of a year, not a priority)
      - high-end tourism/restaurants/bars
      - Naples

Any pointers on where we should use as a homebase and how to spend our days with these things in mind? Sorrento is what I've heard is the easiest base, but I've also been reading about some of the smaller towns being potential options (Vietri Sul Mare near Salerno, others) - what is the best choice given time of year and ease of transport?

      Park & Ride Naples?

      Naples Sep 29, 2016 at 11:10 AM

We are planning to stay outside of Naples, and then drive part way in when we need to. Is there a good place to park where we can then easily catch a bus or metro further into the centre?

Hi, I visited Ravello last week, and noticed a small gift/souvenir shop to the side of the main square, something like Elicada. It was just shutting as i went past or seemed to be, can you kindly confirm the name of the shop? Many thanks

Then walk back down I am fairly comfortable walking round 10 miles a day. Just wondered how long and how strenuous this would be. I am thinking the views will be incredible, but would like to know if I can do this comfortably in a day - I would like to wander around Amalfi as we'll I just don't want to have to rush around like mad to fit it all in Help anyone : )

    • Where to stay on the Amalfi coast?

by ATXhome512 Online Now Jun 23, 2013 at 9:13 AM

We only have 2 days on the Amalfi coast with 2 adults and 2 16 year old teens. I am thinking about staying in Ravello instead of Sorrento. We are flying out of Paris and will be up at 4:30 am. Ravello sounds more relaxing, but will we be able to get around to see many sights on the coast.

I think we will have blow of Capri since we need some downtime.

      Any thoughts?

      Grazie, ATXhome512

I will be on the Amalfi Coast the last week of May, staying in Vietri sul Mare, and want to spend a day in Ravello. I was in Ravello four years ago. It's probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to, if not THE most beautiful. I didn't a lot of time to spend there, so didn't have the opportunity to see either. With the transportation involved, although I will have more time on this trip, if I can't see both, which would you recommend? And why? Any suggestions about this, and/or Ravello in general, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

      Hotel in Ravello

by DaniV22 Online Now Feb 18, 2010 at 6:38 AM

My husband and I will be in Ravello in October and are looking for a reasonably priced hotel. I understand that the options are limited, but of the "middle of the road" hotels, which has the best view? Nice accommodations? Close to Piazza Duomo? Any input would be helpful. We are not able to spend300-$500/night! Thank you.

by nicrev Online Now Jan 8, 2007 at 6:17 PM

I am taking a cruise in May which docks for one day in Naples. I want to travel to Ravello, but do not want a "private tour". I've seen something about Sita bus routes, but cannot seem to find fares or schedules from Naples to Ravello. Does anyone know the course of action I should take? Thanks!

    • Difference between Scarpariello Residence and Villa San Michele

by Jen_S Online Now Feb 27, 2006 at 11:55 AM

Does anyone know the difference between Scarpariello Residence and Villa San Michele? My sense is that Scarpariello Residence is made up of apartments and Villa San Michele is part of Scarpariello, but is the place where you can rent only a room, and not necessarily a whole apartment. Any insight would be much appreciated!
