    • Itinerary Cuzo to LaPaz in 7 days

      Peru Jan 3, 2017 at 9:49 AM

Hi all, I'm trying to make an itinerary for a 7 day trip to Peru. We will get to Cusco on 13 March, at noon, and plan to leave Peru on 20 March for La Paz.

Main stop points are Cusco, Arequipa, Puno and Copacabana. We will travel by bus or by train and would like to see Machu Picchu, Inka Trail, Colca Canyon, Lake Titikaka and Isla del Sol.

1.What itinerary should I chose, Cusco->Puno->Arequipa->Lake Titikaka, or Cusco->Arequipa->Puno->Lake Titikaka. I've heard that Cusco to Puno is a quite beautiful route, what about Cusco->Arequipa?

      2. Is this doable in 7 days?

      3. Is there something that I missed and should I include it?

      Thank you!

Puno to La Paz by touring

by agathi Online Now May 16, 2016 at 3:59 PM

We would like to tour the villages from Puno to the boarders with Bolivia and then take a ride to La paz. Do you think that hiring a taxi driver to get us to the boarders would be a good idea? Is it possible to catch a bus from Copacabana to La paz fromt the boarders? Thank you.

      Puno and Titicaca

by agathi Online Now May 15, 2016 at 8:55 PM

Hallo my friends. I need an advice. We want to get from Cusco to Puno.
      1. Do you think the 8 hour bus with sightseeing stops is a good idea?
      2. We will only have one day in Titicaca. Which of the islands do you think we should visit?
      3. On our way to the borders to pass to Bolibia we want to visit the villages of the lake to see the architecture and the churches. Do you think that doing this tour on our way to the borders is a good idea? Or passing the borders in the morning is better? And how do you suggest to make the tour? Rent a taxi for a day perhaps? Then shall we arange for a bus to pick us up from the boarders to get us to La paz?
      Thanks alot.

I plan a trip to Tiicaca Lake in mid Septemebr.
I will start in Puno, then the lake and Bolivia.
I want to see Uros, Tequile, Amantani and then Del Sol and Copacabana.
Do you know the schedule for boats in Puno?
Are there any boats apart from organized tours?
Can I go to Del Sol but visit all the islands on my way?
Do you know a schedule of boats from Del Sol to Copacabana?

Thank you so much for your tips!

how do I get to from puno to the many island of lake titicaca

by 9tigers Online Now Jun 22, 2011 at 9:23 AM

I read from others that it is probably not a good idea to stay at puno long, but rather in one of the island, is that so?
how do I get to easily from puno to Taquile islands? should I stay overnight there and then go somewhere else (other island) later?
I also read Uros floating islands is not that great, it is best just to pass by
when I get to Taquile island will I pass by floating island?
I also read to get to Copacabana and maybe to the Isla del Sol is also worth it, but how do I get there, it is from Taquile island?

I read somewhere if I just get the boat to Taquile islands, I can easily find family housing there????

      How many days in Puno

by MLW20 Online Now Jan 11, 2008 at 1:33 PM

I am looking to go to Peru in April. We are thinking of flying NY to Juliaca and then catching a bus to Puno to see Lake Titicaca.
----I was wondering- how many days are recommended to stay in this area? How much time is needed to see some of the islands on Titicaca? Is the overnight stay on an island worthwhile etc...??

Then we were planning to head to Cusco to see Machu Pichu and the Sacred Valley. I wrote Peru Rail and they said that there is no longer a backpacker class train to Cusco. The Andean Explorer costs143 for the one way trip. Can anyone else confirm that there is no longer a cheaper train ride to Cusco?

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Any other info on Peru would also be appreciated!

    • Cuzco (Cusco) - Puno: bus vs train

by bvbb Online Now Oct 28, 2007 at 8:29 AM

I've seen varied opinions on traveling to Puno via bus or train. The railroad portrays the130 version as a great luxury tourist experience. Some say the20 backpacker ticket is a rewarding journey. Some say the train is always delayed and rocks have been thrown through the windows. Some say the bus is faster, cheaper, just as scenic, just as comfortable. Others say the buses are rundown, smelly, motion sickness generators.

Does anyone have recent personal experience with these options, with specific company names or similar? Thanks.

      Hello Everyone:
I am thinking about taking the Cuzco - Puno train that gets to Puno around
6-7PM. Then I need to make my way to La Paz to catch a flight to Buenos Aires:
I will really appreciate if I can get some info on items below:

      1) After getting to Puno at 6:00PM, is there a way to get to copacabana, bolivia the same night. I need to meet up with a friend there that night. How long is the busride between puno and copacabana?
      2) How long is the busride from copacabana to la paz.

      I really appreciate any input.
      Safe travels everyone.

I arrive in Puno in late afternoon and need to get to La Paz (in about 3-4 days). I guess i need to know the best way of getting there, given i'm not in a huge rush. From other responses, Puno does not seem to be recommended as a place to stay. Is it best travel by land or by boat (as much as possible)? If by land, where are the best places to visit - any recommendations greatly appreciated!!
