I've booked a trip to La Romana from Toronto, Canada and our local public health unit is saying that this destination is a high risk for malaria and hep A & B - also advised that we only drink bottled water. Has anyone heard these warnings and/or had one of these illnesses after visiting?

Good day everyone. We are coming from a cruise ship and shore excursion from La Romana are fully booked so I was looking if there's any tour companies you can recommend? Our ship is docked from 9a-4p so time is limited. I've read of casa de campo and altos de chavon. Is altos de chavon in casa de campo? Do you recommend it for sightseeing? How much are the taxi fare? One way? Or round trip? Would love to do the river cruise but Carnival is sold out and wondering if we'll still able to do it with other tours. Thanks for any info.

we are traveling by cruise ship and don't want to pay the expensive shore excursion prices. Once we arrive at the pier is there anything that you would recommend doing? beach, snorkel, etc that can be purchased once there? or do we have to purchase the excursion through Carnival?

I was thinking about visiting la romana and cayo levantado in the DR in February. I don't know anyone who has been to either place. My main concerns are: are they safe destinations?, is it under developed?, what's to do?, what are the beaches like? I would appreciate any info that I can get!

were staying at the viva wyndham dominicus palace in september for our honeymoon. does anyone have any feedback on the weather at that time, what to expect. A friend of mine who goes to DR all the time said that when it rains, it only rains for a short time and then the sun comes right back out. Also if anyone is familiar with where were staying, i'd appreciate any feedback. Thank you
