Where to have Christmas Eve dinner?

      Quebec Nov 15, 2016 at 3:52 AM

Hi. I will spend Christmas in Quebec this year (so excited!) I am just wondering where is a good restaurant to have Christmas Eve dinner? Most of the restaurants are closed and one of the nice restaurant I saw (Panache) only accept reservation from their hotel guests for Christmas Eve. Is there any other restaurants you can recommend? Also, if we don't make a reservation, can we likely find a restaurant that is open on Christmas Eve on that day? Thanks in advance!

Is it allowed to skinny dip in any provinces of Canada?

      Canada 12 hours ago

Hi, I and my sweetheart are on a vacation to Canada. We are staying in Toronto, with our hometown friends who are here for higher studies. I asked them if they knew if it's okay to swim undressed in pools or lakes. They don't know about it. My girlfriend wants to take a nude dip in the cold water with me and is it okay to do that in Canada? My friend knows a place which is secluded, so, hopefully, nobody would see us. LOL

Algonquin Provincial Park Nov 30, 2016 at 2:57 AM

We are a team of 6 people who love hiking and forest trekking. Next week we are planning to go to Algonquin park. We read some information about this place from here . We need to know whether any special permissions needed to travel deep into the jungle. Can somebody suggest me some good places to camp there for 5 or 6 days?

    • Picking a large Canadian city to move to. Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, Edmonton?

      Canada Nov 13, 2016 at 11:05 AM

Hey guys, so I'm considering moving to the big city for school to experience it. I live close to Calgary, about 4 hours away so that's what it's looking like. But at the same time I want to go either further west or further east to experience a different part of Canada.

To be honest, I've heard realllly bad things about Toronto from the family that I do have who've lived there. They say there's way too many people, the people there are very rude, it's dirty, it's just all around a crappy place to live. I want to be in a big city, and if I am going down east it's most likely going to be to Toronto. Online it looks good, it's multicultural, it has lots to do, etc. Which is what I want. But from the people I know who actually have experience living there, they hated it.

Vancouver is not even really in the question either. It's simply way too expensive for me. As a student, I can't afford on a part time job to pay $1000 a month minimum just on rent. That's crazy to me, and unrealistic. But I do have family there who love it. (Extremely wealthy family so they actually are able to be there comfortably.) Everybody seems to love it there, though.

I'm from Alberta and have been to Calgary tons because 99% of my family live there and I really like it there. It's big, the people are nice, and it's a little more affordable than Toronto/Vancouver. The only reason I'm hesitant to move there is because I've already been there soooo many times before. I want to go somewhere new and experience different things.

Don't know anything about Edmonton. I've heard it's just like Calgary but colder.

      Any ideas? Thanks guys.

Years ago, we purchased several beautiful quilts in a small store near Kouchibouguac or Kejimakujik. Does anybody know of this place, and does it still exist? Would love to find it again. I realize there are many quillts in Canada, but this was a small building and one of a kind.

    • Are there hiking trails in the area of Sussex, NB

      Sussex May 24, 2014 at 11:34 AM

Last summer we tented and stayed in the Bay of Fundy National Park for five day and enjoyed that area immensely with lots of hiking there. This summer we intend to spend at least one day in the area of Belleisle Creek, NB and Sussex and are wondering if there is hiking in the area closeby. I remember visiting with a couple there once and they took us on a drive to see several covered bridges which was all in the space of a couple hours. They had said there was lots of hiking in the area. I am hard pressed to find anything online or in the New Brunswick Tourism book for the Sussex area.

We're coming into Saint John, NB on a cruise ship at the end of August. Would love to see the caves in St. Martins AND the Hopewell Rocks. Is it possible to do in one day? Would renting a car or doing an organized trip be better? That combo is not offered as an excursion on the cruise ship. Would also love to get hubby a lobster tail...or two...to eat while we're here. Thanks for any information anyone can provide/suggest. Just found this site today and I like it!!

My father was born in Wilsons Beach and lived there until he was thirty when he moved to Boston with my mother who was a Babcock. She lived in the Babcock house beside the old school for a short time when she was a little girl before her family moved to Boston.

My wife and I are thinking of camping in Maine in September and would like to visit my grandparent's grave (they are buried in the cemetery behind the post office in Wilsons Beach). Do we need a pass port to enter Campobello?

      Moncton Jun 22, 2011 at 5:34 AM

      Hi everyone!

I was wondering what would be the best way to travel from moncton to Boston. I will be travelling with a friend and we cannot really afford to fly to Boston so we were hoping to get the bus eventhough we've got to make stops in small towns and it takes a while we are still ready to do it that way.
The problem is that I cannot seem to find the right coaches so If you have any idea on what bus or train to catch please help us.

      Thanks a lot,

      Leslie

    • We're moving to NB... seeking your opinions!

Province of New Brunswick Feb 17, 2011 at 9:57 AM

Hi! We're planning a move from BC to NB in a couple of months. The question is - WHERE? I've been browsing around here picking up lots of useful information, but I'm very interesting in getting some feedback "from the ground" so to speak.

We're not limited by location, (don't need to be in a particular city!) we can go pretty much anywhere.

BUT we are limited by some other factors, and this is where I'd really appreciate the experience of those who actually live in NB.

      1) budget! we've only got about 250-350K to spend on a property. We'd like a newer (or recently renovated) log home on a small acreage with lots of trees (enough land for privacy - maybe 10 acres, maybe a bit more or a bit less)... waterfront on a lake or river is extremely desirable too. Are we asking the impossible?

      2) weather! we want SNOWY (not rainy) winters and a WHITE CHRISTMAS (does this rule out certain coastal regions?) - and we'd like WARMER summers...

      3) weather! we also want as much SUNSHINE as possible - and not too windy, and not too many mosquitoes, etc!

      4) location! we want clean air ... to be reasonably far away from any big cities, pulp mills, and power plants - but also reasonably close to one or more small communities that we can be a part of.

Any suggestions of great places that might fit the bill?

A couple of random weather questions:

Is the STORMY WEATHER really such an issue on the coasts? (specifically the east coast)

Is the famous maritime FOG really such an issue on the coasts? ( I read somewhere that you can generally escape it by going 10 km inland...)

      THANKS IN ADVANCE!

We're starting from Toronto and heading to Quebec for the first day or so. I want to see the tides 100% and magnetic hill. We will be travelling also to PEI, and NS. But I will post stuff on that forum later on. We both wanna go whale watching. Not sure if NB is the place to do it as i read its the best place or wait till NS or Cape Breton.

I've found a cottage to rent for a week in August on the Bay of Fundy. It's in a really beautiful spot overlooking the ocean. I'm going to have my 11-year-old daughter and 10-year-old niece with me, and am looking for some fun things to do. Even things in St. John would be good, since we'll have our car and it's only about a 30 min. drive.
