We are celebrating my parents in laws 50 years wedding anniversary in Lisboa and want to surprice them with a special experience. Anyone have a good idea of what to do? They are not very active people but we still would like to take them somewhere either a different place to see or a restaurant which is special and is both a dinner and experience, this dosen´t mean that gourmet food, but maybe a special place or something.
      Any idea is welcome.
      Thanks :-)

Is it a must to buy a Lisboa card when visiting Lisbon

      Lisbon Jul 1, 2016 at 1:47 AM

We've all heard of London's oystercard or Hong Kongs octopuscard?

But is it really necessary for lisbon?

Its says in Timeout that if you want to use the METRO then you must use a lisboncard. It says when you travel in from the airport you must use a lisboncard.

Or can you just bu tickets? There is a touristcard? Is this easier? How much is it and can I procure it in the UK before I leave? Does anyone have any webaddresses for the lisboncard?

advice regarding best use of holiday time

      Portugal Jul 11, 2016 at 3:51 PM

hi there, I am from Australia and in September 2016 I will have 12 days holiday in Portugal. I will be arriving in and departing from Lisbon airport. Can anyone please give me advice about where to go and what to do? I would like to go to Porto and then spend some time in smaller towns inland. I like history and culture and food. I am not really interested in beaches and nightlife. For this trip I would probably prefer not to spend my time in museums (that's for another trip) and I like to explore towns on foot. I prefer not to move hotels every day but have a minimum of 2 nights in each place. I will be traveling by train and any other public transport.

Any advice greatly appreciated. I know this is not a long trip but I think with some planning and forethought I can have a wonderful time there. Many thanks

My husband and I have an opportunity to stay in Porto from mid February to mid March. Does it make any sense weather wise to live there for one month or is it so cold no one is outdoors. Will there be any beauty renting a car and exploring the northern part of the country at that time.

    • Moving to Porto

by DenisKl Online Now Jun 7, 2016 at 4:57 PM

      Hi everyone,

I visited Porto a while ago and was very impressed, everyone was really nice and friendly, great atmosphere. So I am decided to move to Porto (at the moment i live near Lisbon), already gave a notice to the landlord and have to get out in 2 months time. I plan to stay for at least a year and may be even settle down there. Now the main question for me is where to rent a place, I work from home so there is no travel to the office, also I think I can afford to stay anywhere from financial perspective. I move alone, don't know anybody and plan to find some social circle and some friends. Also I am not very social person and I plan to change it :) So i would really appreciate some advises of which area to choose, first thought was to get a flat near University since it is close to the bars and clubs. Another possibility is Foz do Douro, i haven't been there but read many good things about it, still not sure if it is alive enough? The focus is to stay in a place where it would be easy to find something to do, place with more possibilities to meet people. Please let me know if you have any thoughts.

A little about me, I am a guy, 34 y.o., originally from Latvia but in the past years lived in various places in Europe, speak English and some Spanish, learning Portuguese.

      Thank you,
      Denis.

Porto - Montreal (2 Stops) - 16 year old minor

by jgoncalo Online Now Nov 2, 2014 at 3:22 PM

Hello. I'm flying from Porto to Montreal with 2 stops in Frankfurt and London Heathrow on December 17th. I'm 16 years-old, I have a Portuguese passport and I'm flying all alone! I've never flew alone in a flight with so many stops... the only time I flew alone was from Porto to Paris and it was quite simple (I didn't even need to go through passport control or anything).

      • My flight from Porto to Frankfurt departs at 6AM and arrives at Frankfurt at 09H50 AM (Germany, GMT +1).
      • My second flight, departs from Frankfurt at 11AM and arrives in London at 11H45 AM.
      • My flight which will take me to my final destination departs from London at 1PM and arrives in Montreal at 3H25 PM.

All the connection flight are made at the same terminal. In Frankfurt it's in Terminal 1 and in London Heathrow it's in Terminal 2 and I only have 1h10-1h15. I'm flying with Lufthansa but London-Montreal is operated by Air Canada. I bought this fligh in a travel agency and I have a Lufthansa frequent flyer card.

I'm kinda nervous about having to do this, I've been on a flight with stops and connections so I'm a total beginner. Do I have enough time to connect between my flights? Where will I have to show my passport and go through security (since I've been told I don't need to go through customs from Porto to Frankfurt)? What if I lose a connection flight because of a delay or because I didn't have enough time to go through passport control and get to the gate? As a minor I'm quite nervous. Should I warn the flight attendant before I land in case I'm late for the next flight?

      Thanks in advance!
