Driving in the Pyrennes

by scallens Online Now Jun 7, 2010 at 1:42 PM

Around the first of October we will be driving from Carcassone to San Sebastian. We would like to take the scenic route through the mountains on roads like the D918. Are these roads generally open at that time of year or should we expect the snow to close them by then?

Since we aren't in a great hurry to reach the coast, we will probably opt to take the D1 from Foix to Surba, then pick up the D618 to St Girons. Seems like a much more spectacular drive. Then on to Arreau on the D618 and pick up the D918 to the ocean. The pictures on Goggle Earth are spectacular on that drive.
