1.Easiest way to get to Naples from Rome 2. Hotels in Island of Ischia

      Naples Jan 8, 2017 at 3:01 PM

      Dear local experts:
I am traveling from Los Angeles CA, will land in Rome. 1. What is the quickest and easiest way to get from Rome to Naples. Please give me specific links, your personal experience, etc.
I will stay a couple of days in Naples. I want to book a hotel on the island of Ischia and also want to spend at least one entire day in Prochida. I understand that the same ferry that runs from Naples stops on both islands - Prochida and ischia. How much is a ticket (average)?
      2. What hotel on Ischia is NICE, having a good THERMAL pool, a spa facility (sauna, jakuzzi), near beaches AND up to 150 US dollars a night? (hope it exists :-)
      Thank you all. Best,
      Gelena

      Italy Jan 11, 2017 at 3:13 AM

Sorry to hear this site is shutting down.

I had an incredible summer honeymoon in Switzerland thanks entirely to commenters on this forum. I'm really grateful.

This question is very broad but I thought I might get lucky again!

Hoping for a may/June family holiday this year.
Traveling with a three year old and a one year old.
Beach, hotel, pools, nature, good food, a little old town within walking distance.
We really want it to be child friendly with food and drink readily available but not too big a complex.
We'd love to visit Italy, also considering Greece and France, I'll post over there too.

Many thanks if you have any thoughts!

    • Which resort to stay at Lake Garda?

Lago di Garda Jan 5, 2017 at 1:52 AM

Hello, what a great website. Hope someone can help with this. Me and my partner are hoping to go to Lake Garda in the summer but we are unsure as to which resort to base ourselves at. We are both 40 and although we are definitely beyond wanting a Club 18/30 type holiday we still want a nice lively resort that has a nice nightlife until fairly late at night. Last year we went to Sorrento and this was absolutely fantastic, lots of open-air restaurants, bars and even traditional music and singing in the streets at night, this was just perfect, so we wondered if any Lake Garda resort offered something similar? I was maybe thinking of Sirmione or Garda as a base as those would both be easier for us to get to, but I have no idea what the nightlife would be like. Hope someone can help? Thanks, Sarah.

      Venice Dec 20, 2016 at 2:00 PM

Hi, we will be spending 7 days in venice, including New Years Eve. We want to make sure that we sample great food and wine during our trip, as this is our passion. It doesn't have to be high end but it does have to be high quality. We are wanting to kick back and have a (relatively) stress free and memorable time. We are staying in a centrally based apartment so are happy to cook, but would much prefer to eat out - especially in less touristy (yes, I know - Venice is a tourist destination...) areas. All tips gratefully recieved.

      Italy Dec 18, 2016 at 2:10 AM

Hi! I'm going to spend a month in Italy (July) and I have to choose between Genova and Perugia. I think, Perugia offers more opportunities for excursions (Roma, Firenze, Pisa) but...does it have a good social life (museums, buildings and nightlife) ? On the other hand, Genova is close only to Milan but has a lot of things to do. What do you tihnk?

And of course...which city is more expensive?

      Thanks a lot!

      Culinary Museums

by manuna Online Now Jul 3, 2012 at 6:26 AM

Usually while visiting new places we devote some time to the traditional culinary, its production, tasting, coocking etc. This year we will travel through Emilia-Romagna. I noticed that there are a lot of museums not far from Parma: Prosciuto di Parma,Parmigiano, Tomato and even Culinary House (Casa Artusi). Is any of them worth seeing? What I can skip? Unfortunately most of the sites are in Italian, so it's really hard to evaluate anything :(
May be you can suggest something absolutely different in this sphere?
      Thank you in advance?

Anything other than food and castles?

by sandot Online Now Aug 20, 2007 at 1:30 PM

Hi VT! Long time since I've been here. Since we resolved the Napoli question, I once again need your wisdom!

I'm supposed to take up a post in Parma in a couple of weeks, but am really finding it hard to get a sense of what Parma is like. I've looked it up and read lots about the food and castles, but could you'se maybe suggest some adjectives to describe it? There, easy, all I need are one word answers!

If anyone's been recently, or lives there, could you try to describe it to me.....sorry, I know this is the kind of abstract posting you'd be tempted to ignore, but spare a moment...please
      Thanks

    • Should I move to Bologna or Parma?

by LiveItalia Online Now Jan 6, 2007 at 7:44 PM

I single, 31 years old and living in London. I want to live for couple of years, maybe more, in Italy. I have chosen to move to Bologna or Parma because they are genuinely Italian, attractive, sophisticated, youthful and relatively tourist free. However, ultimately I tend to judge towns by atmosphere. I have two concerns relating to the atmosphere of Bologna and Parma respectively:

      1. I have always loved Bologna, however, on two recent trips I perceived the atmosphere of the city had changed slightly. It observed the centre as rather drugy and dirty in many quarters. I must admit my heart sank. Exciting things always happen to me in Bologna but maybe this is not the place to set-up a new life. Then again, maybe I am just being pathetic and seedy grit comes with culture, youth and vibrancy. I would really appreciate your opinions, especially if you either love it or hate it.

      2. Parma seems like a very similar town to Bologna in many ways. However, it clearly is smaller and consequently a little more parochial. Is Parma a little bit too sleepy? I really love towns to have a buzz? I know Parma also has a big University and that brings buzz to many towns. But I just can’t get an angle on how the town ticks. I would really appreciate your opinions especially, if you either love it or hate it.

Many thanks for reading this and I look forward to your responses.

Hi, during our holidays in Italy me and my parents loved the Italian Parmesan-cheese (not the plastic-packed one from the supermarket, but the huge pieces of a kilogram or so that they sell in small-corner-cheese-shops). Now I had the idea to import one of these pieces and give it to my parents as a christmas present. But where can I buy it without going to Italy? Does anyone know an eMail-adress of one of those small-corner-shops in Parma or somewhere else in Italy? regards KoGGy
