    Fall Season: Eastern Canada

by eggplantbrain Online Now Jan 4, 2016 at 10:20 AM

Myself, plus two companions, are currently planning a trip to the Eastern Canadian cities of Montreal, Ottawa, & Quebec City for September 2016. I wish to travel at a time when the 'Fall Season' is in progress; not earlier. My companions, however, insist that Mid- September would be fine. I am saying: LATE September / early October. I am aware that Canadian Thanksgiving would be the PEAK time to visit in respect to Fall Season, but for reasons irrelevant to this post we have to travel PRIOR to Thanksgiving. I have shown my companions the average temperature readings for the region- but they still believe 'Mid- September' rates as 'Fall Season', while I myself do NOT. So my question is: Would Two weeks make that much difference really ? ( My guess is: Yes, it would) - Thank You !

  • Places to visit and best to stay for the winter?

by DaveMaria Online Now Jul 24, 2014 at 4:33 AM

Was planning to visit Ottawa in August but kids came with an idea of seeing the Winterlude festival. When searched about it, I've also liked the idea of it, but I think it comes on Feb. So, thought will plan and book the rooms now itself.
First and foremost, which all places are the best to visit in Ottawa, especially those which one shouldn't miss in winter?
Second will be a stay, comfortable, and near to Rideau Canal, which I hope is a good idea. I've heard of MAC Suites ( ), where does it located exactly? Heard some good reviews, but didn't mention anything about their location. If good, I think the stay will be fine there.
Ok, any good place for me and my husband to hang around for sometime, say a good pub or something, for a private time just for us? :D

    Pub for large group

by Susan.14 Online Now Sep 9, 2013 at 2:37 PM

Flying in from Seattle for a bit of a high school reunion. We are in our 50's and want to meet in a pub @ 4ish on a Saturday in October (not the long weekend). People will be driving in from all parts of the area like Orleans, Nepean, South Grenville. Looking for a place that has easy parking, easy to get to and good pub food. There will be 14 to 20 of us. I have tried Irene's but they cannot take a large group. Was thinking of Pub Italia or Prescot...suggestions are welcome. Prefer to avoid chain pubs.

In September, on which days are the Ottawa-Toronto trains the least busy and least crowded, where my chances of having no passenger next to me are highest? I assume Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays would be most busy, but perhaps Mondays as well? Thanks.

by travellingtechie Online Now May 18, 2012 at 3:22 PM

    Hi All!

I will be in Ottawa tomorrow and the day after. Could you please tell some of the best places to see and things to do in Ottawa? I understand that the Tulip Festival and Parliament Hill tours are a few must-do's. But I dont know how the tulip festival works and if there are any particular gardens which need to be seen or are there tulips all over the city?

Also any suggestions about off-the-beaten-path things/places in Ottawa are highly appreciated!

    Thanks so much!

Ottawa - Living cost & General queries for an immigrating guy/couple

by explore4passion Online Now Nov 22, 2010 at 3:34 AM

    Hello Friends,
Please guide on following queries : either for a single man (or a couple) immigrating to Ottawa on work-permit/Visa, a 1st time traveler to Canada. Simple living, eating habits : Vegetarian, non-smoker, non-alcoholic but essentially seeking TV, NET & Mobile-phone connectivity!
1). Cost of quality & hygienic living, may not be luxurious but a decent one.
2). Please indicate accommodation-cost separately single-bedroom + 1 Living & Dining room apartment, both - furnished or unfurnished, within the reasonable limits.
3). Public transport & Gym, in close-vicinity, would be a preference-criteria for apartment location.
4). Medical facilities : Is buying normal medicines from local pharmacists & Chemist shops, without any prescription, is common or it's prohibited and only to be sold on prescription, as per local law.
5). Which are essential utilities that are suggested to be brought along (other than dresses, etc.) - with a view point of avoiding both - hassles & expenditure within 1-2 months of arrival.
6). How is normally the social, as well as, sex-life of bachelors in the city.

...Lot of questions, isn't it ??? Even your part-replies are most welcome.
Thanks, in advance, for helping me out !!!
    CHEERS !
