      Cancún Jan 4, 2017 at 8:47 PM

I've done so much research and now I turn to the experts---We want to zip line, ATV, snorkel, cenotes, raft in caves with stalactites and stalagmites. It seems like X-plor has all of this. We love nature. We don't care about tours with food or shows. We also want to swim with dolphins.
If we do xplor, do we also need to do xcarat? Xelha? What combo tour should we do with xplor?
We want to snorkel in isla-mujeres. Where can we do that? Where can we rent a golf cart there? What private beach is a must in cancun or isla-mujeres? What is unique to do at night? Thank you in advance!

Traveling to Cancun from Chicago with 4 month old baby- First trip with baby!

      Cancún Jan 15, 2017 at 2:45 PM

      Hi,

My husband and I will be traveling for the first time with our 4 month old baby. We have been to Cancun before, however, never with a baby! Can you please let me know what things I should be taking with or any tips.. I am nursing the baby, We will be staying at the all inclusive Royalton Riviera Resort.

      1) I am planning on taking a stroller and carseat and baby carrier

      2) Suncreen?? I hear I can't put it on a baby - any tricks besides not taking her out until later afternoon/evening.

      3) Swim suit and flotie???or swim diaper- I was thinking about having her in a flotie with us supervising.

       4) I am assuming we can't really do any excursions or activities?

      5) any tips?

How safe is it to drive to roserato from San Diego? I have a 2007 Ford Focus. It would just be my husband and I we are 65 year old. I have read some travel warnings that imply it's possible to get pulled over at road stops with impersonators that rob you. I just wanted to take a day trip to rosarito and Puerto Nuevo for lobster and come home.
I was also thinking of riding into Tijuana, but we are a little scared we could be star get because we are older. Please advise.

      Which phone?-stealing

      Mexico Dec 27, 2016 at 2:03 AM

I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question. Is it safe to take my mobile with me to Mexico? I know that the word "safe" will have everyone jumping. I do actually have two phones- an old Galaxy S3 which is slow and annoying and a new LG which is fast. I am considering travelling with the old one because if it's stolen it's less of a loss, however if I need to use my phone a lot obviously the new one is way more convenient. What are the chances of my new LG getting stolen, or worse, me being held up at gunpoint somewhere...(We are travelling around for 6 weeks, from Yucatan down through Chiapas and up to Mex City)

      Thanks in advance.

My question is: Do Americans have to go through U.S. Immigration or Homeland Security before walking over the bridge into Nuevo Laredo Mexico? Also is it as simple as when approaching the Mexico side to just pay the machine, receive a ticket go on through? Can I just Hop on a bus to Mexico City after site seeing then go to the airport get whatever is required as far as a tourist card or visa and fly out?

Crossing at Nuevo Laredo then driving to Saltillo with no passport?

by mim0159 Online Now May 12, 2016 at 1:20 AM

First let me say, I'm currently scrambling to get a expedited passport. That being said, I'm planning on crossing the border at Nuevo Laredo in a little over three weeks with my girlfriend who lives in Saltillo. It's about three and a half hours south from NL. She's picking me up in Laredo TX, and we are crossing into Mexico in her car. I would just wait on the passport, but it's a big event on a certain day. If it doesn't come in time... Can I even get in with no passport? Will it be easier because of the car being registered in Mexico? What happens if I get caught in or on the way to Saltillo with no passport? I'll be there a week. I will have my license and birth certificate worse come to worse. I'm stressing about the potentially not having a passport thing..Thanks for any advice

We are driving from San Antonio wee hours of the am) entry at Laredo to Vallarta during Xmas break 2016.

I see 3 possible routes from the entry at Nuevo Laredo ( or Columbia if we are not too early in the day)
      1. monterrey-hwy 54 to zacatecas-guadalajara-pv
      2. same route but using hwy 57 - San Luis Potosi
      3. hwy 40 durang0- mazatlan-pv
we are not planning on sightseeing on the way down and want the fastest route. we do not mind paying tolls. which way would you go and why? what town would you stop at for the one overnight we plan to make. About how many hours to get to that first stop from the border?

    • First time trip outside the United States.

by LaceyR1106 Online Now Jan 23, 2016 at 9:49 AM

I am planning to take my 7 year old daughter to see her father. We are going to meet up and stay at a hotel in Nuevo Laredo. I have various questions whst have gotten mixed answers based on people I jave asked. So I just decided to ask here. I will number the questions. Sorry if it's a lot, but I am very nervous and want to know what I'm getting myself into.

      1. What are the safest hotels one can recommend and can I reserve them online with a debit/credit card in USD?

      2. What is the best/safest way to cross if we plan to cross from Laredo, Texas?

      3. We only plan to be there Friday-Sunday. I have heard we DO NOT need passports, that IDs and birth certificates would be okay because the new IDs have a chip in them that accesses all biographical information, how true is this?

4.We are going to drive over in our vehicle. Do we need a permit to cross the car into Mexico? I heard that if we don't go any further than 16-18 miles past the boarder we should be fine... Not sure how true this is?

      5. What are some essential items I must take in case of any emergency?

      6. Can I take our own snacks and bottled water over the boarder?

      7. How bad is crime in Nuevo Laredo? I am most terrified of this part.. What are some info that I should know while I'm there?

      8. What should I avoid while there?

      9. How do pesos work and how do I understand them?

      10. Only going for 3 days, how much money should I take? And will my debit card work over there?

Sorry if some questions are dumb, this is my first time ever, so I want to be prepared.

    • Walking from International Bridge to Bus station in Nuevo Laredo?

by TGAdventurer Online Now Sep 15, 2014 at 4:57 AM

      Hi all,

I was wondering what the current state of affairs is in N.L.? I will be entering Mexico in the beginning of October and will be taking a bus from N.L. to Guadalajara, and will be in N.L. on a Monday in the late morning and early afternoon. I will be wearing a large backpack and have decent Spanish, not fluent but nicely conversational. If the city is fairly safe at this current time I think it would be fun to walk from the border to Nueva Central de Autobuses located here:

      google.com/maps/place/Nueva+...

I'm white as they come but am 6 feet tall and muscular, if that makes any difference.

Is it safe enough to walk at the time I will be in the city? The only post I've seen talking about this is from 2008 and I think it's for a different bus station maybe. Will also be stopping for lunch along the way, probably at a local Taqueria.

Looking forward to your replies. Thanks!

When I crossed INTO Mexico using Bridge 2, I was not able to find the Immigration Office and, while I DID HAVE my car permit and insurance etc (which I got on line and by courier), I did not get a tourist card or a stamp in my passport before ending up on the toll road and well into Mexico. I have been in Mexico for two months and now need to get home.
I am travelling back that same way INTO Texas via Nuevo Laredo Bridge 2 and need instructions on how to find the place where a) I give back my car sticker, and b) where I tell them my sad tale of woe about not having a tourist card. Can anyone give me clear and concise instructions, PLEASE.
Is this one and the same place for car and immigration?
What sort of "fine" should I expect to have to pay to get through the immigration?

      Bus from Laredo to Zacatecas

by Torajiro Online Now Jun 29, 2013 at 6:43 PM

We are flying in to Laredo, Texas, in mid-August at 20:20. Is it practical to catch a bus that night to go to Zacatecas, Mexico (it can be Mexico City)? If it is possible, what is the best way to do it?

      - Go to a bus depot in Laredo, TX, from the Laredo airport by taxi, and find a night bus to go to Zacatecas?
      - Go across the border (how do we get there; taxi or bus?) and get to the bus depot in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, to catch a bus to Zacatecas?
      - I am reading that, in general in Mexico, it is better to catch a bus at a bus depot without a reservation. Does this apply to this plan?
      - If a reservation is recommended, which one should I book and how?

      Thank you very much!

    • Safe to drive from GDL through Nouevo Laredo?

by danielleschnell Online Now Jun 5, 2010 at 3:43 PM

As I live in GDL, I have done this drive several times during the past 2 summers. Given the latest security issues and travel warnings against "nonessential" travel, how safe is it, in reality, to drive the bypass around Monterrey to Nuevo Laredo. I am not one to spook easily but I did read somewhere that a person was carjacked on the cuota from Monterrey to Reynosa. I am a female who will be traveling with my 3 dogs in my car with US plates. Naturally, I would plan on going through the area in the afternoon, sometime during the first part of July. I am, however, worried about coming across roadblocks from the Zetas or other criminal groups. I also need to make the return trip at the beginning of August. As it is ideal for me to drive with my dogs, I would like to make the drive if it is safe?

Anyone living or traveling there (Mont. or N.L) recently have any advice for me?
