Best restaurants in Nottingham, near City of Caves

      Nottingham Dec 5, 2016 at 7:18 AM

      Hi!
I'm planning a trip to Nottingham where I will show my friends the sandstone beauty, the City of Caves. Since we may spend there a lot of time, I need some recommendations on good cafes/restaurants/pubs near this attraction to have a dinner at. Where would you go? =) The cuisine doesn't matter, but the distance does (it should be near the City of Caves). I've found a list of restaurants at alltheviews.com/restaurants-... but still can't decide on a place to visit. Is Ibérico World Tapas really great?

I'll be studying at the Jubilee campus and don't know which hotel to stay in. I'm between Ibis and Premier Inn Nottingham arena. Which hotel would be more convenient in terms of transportation and accessability?

      Nottingham City Buses

      Nottingham Mar 5, 2016 at 10:46 AM

Our trip to Nottingham is drawing nearer and I already got some good advice from members here, for which I am grateful. But now it comes to details. Please bear with me, LOL - I'd be less nervous if I was travelling by myself but I am in charge of our small group, and I have a reputation to lose and lengthy discussions to avoid: think five ladies who all consider themselves travel-experienced but know close to nothing about this particular city. In other words, I'd appreciate idiot-proof directions...

Question: How to get from Nottingham railway station to our hotel in Derby Road (The Strathdon)?
It is probably a bit too far to walk with luggage.

I found https://www.nctx.co.uk/ but somehow i get stuck in the route planner. In the map I see a bus stop just opposite the hotel in front of the cathedral, but it does not seem to have a name. The system does not recognize the address of the hotel and keeps sending me to some village southwest of the city.
Can we buy tickets from the bus driver, from a ticket machine, or where and how? Do we buy five singles, or is there a cheaper option?
Travel date and time is next Wednesday in the late afternoon.

Thank you for your understanding and for any help! ;-)

      Nottingham - in and around

      Nottingham Oct 20, 2015 at 3:47 PM

Well, one should not have "great ideas"... I find myself in the situation that I'll have to plan and organize a trip to Nottingham for a small group, without having ever been there. Please help me to find and sort some thoughts and point me into directions for further research. We are in the very first stages of brainstorming, so forgive my present ignorance. Detailed and well-researched questions will surely follow later on when the idea becomes a plan.

Background: We have been invited to Nottingham for the anniversary of our sister club (one weekend), and the basic idea is planning our own trip of 5-6 days around this. Travel date will be mid March - this is non-negotiable because of the event that we will be attending. Not the most perfect season, I know, but we want to make the best of it.

Who: small group of 6-8 ladies between fourties and seventies. Some walking is fine but not too strenuous hikes.

Interests: vary, of course, but culture and history rank high, museums and historical buildings (so far I found the castle, Wollaton Hall and the textile museum, City of Caves, maybe Galleries of Justice Museum). The footsteps of Robin Hood should also be followed.
Some spare time for shopping will be appreciated. Are there any good street markets, or areas with little shops, arts and crafts and such, in Nottingham?

Option a) staying the whole time in Nottingham, and including a day trip or two. Hints are welcome: Any good day trip options, easy to reach on public transport, preferably trains? A castle, a picturesque village or small town, a historical town/city with a great cathedral, etc.? Lincoln perhaps?

Option b) a second base in a different city for 2-3 nights. Undecided where.

Looks like the most convenient airport will be Birmingham, as there are direct flights from Frankfurt. Any comments on the city of Birmingham, is it worth a closer look and consideration?

Barge Cruise- Trent & Mersey Canal

      Nottingham Jun 3, 2008 at 5:16 AM

      Good Day

We are going on a Barge cruise from the 1st-8th October, departure point will be Sawley Marina in Long Eaton.

I would just like to know a few things:
      * What is the weather like at this time of year?
      * We will be arriving in Nottingham on the 30th to start the barge the next day so we would need to sleep over 1 night, would you recommend we spend one night in Nottingham or Long Eaton, is it easy enough to get from Nottingham to Long Eaton and what is the cost roughly?

That's about it. Hope someone could be of assistance.

      Thank You,
      Melissa

Nottingham and english pubs: gay v straight -Is it ok?

      Nottingham Apr 13, 2008 at 11:41 AM

      Greetings All,
I am going to be in Nottingham on business. My co worker in nottingham said it was customary to go to a nightclub that was gay. However, my fellow portugese friends may feel a little bit strange going to bar that is for gay folks. My question is, is it really customary , common and accepted for straight men and women to to go a club that is designated for gays? if so, then great, its a custom and no issues. If not, then i probably wouldnt recommend it. We want to experience the true english experience, but i dont want to be out of place.
      Cheers!

      Pub meal for 15 people

      Nottingham Aug 20, 2007 at 3:38 AM

      Hi,
I am trying to organise an afternoon meal/buffet for 15 family members for a Saturday afternoon in Nottingham. Preferably centre or not far from it.
I like the idea of a pub sort of setting. Does anyone have any ideas of pubs etc that could accomodate us and, of course, with good food and beer and pleasant surroundings.

In the evening we would like to find a place close to Park Plaza Hotel that may put on a sort of 'finger buffet' for the group.

I would appreciate any help at all -- looking for a saturday in late september.

      regards, pete
