      Independent driver recommendation

Sri Lanka Oct 7, 2016 at 11:02 PM

      Hi everyone,
Need help again. Can anyone recommend me a good and safe driber?? To take us around for 6 days?? I had contacted boutique srilanka but it's a little beyond our budget. Read somewhere that independent drivers charge you little less not to mention that it goes straight to their pocket instead of the company. So any suggestion?? Thanks again

First Time in Sri Lanka, Help with 10 day itinerary

Sri Lanka Oct 7, 2016 at 11:41 AM

Hi, after months of planning and changes me and the wife will be finishing our Asia n Oz travels in Sri Lanka.
This will be our first time here. We will have about ten days here and want some help with a possible itinerary or suggestions where to visit.
Ideally we would love to spend four complete days by the beach, where snorkelling is good, plenty of beach bars and a variety of restaurants.
for the remaining six days, we would like to experience the real Sri Lanka.
We enjoy chilling out (beach bit) ,, wildlife conservation and spectacular scenery.
travelling distances is no problem for us.
We fly into Colombo and leave the same route.
      Many thanks in anticipation..

    • 3 Weeks in Sri Lanka in March

      Sigiriya Dec 1, 2015 at 11:30 PM

We are going to Sri Lanka for 3 weeks in March, we were thinking... Negombo, Kandy, Dambulla, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa.... then Ella, bandarawela, haputale, Yala National Park...then Tangalle, Mirissa & Galle and back to Colombo to flight.

In there I want to do lots of eating, visit tea plantations, take cooking classes, meet locals, go trekking in mountains, I want to take the train south from Kandy, visit temples, go to somewhere where there are spices (i.e., like a factory etc), eat fresh fish, maybe a coconut plantation, see wildlife.. and my partner is a surfer and would like to get some surfing in while we are going across the south coast, maybe a few days of me relaxing on a beach while he surfs.

      Q1. Is this too much?
Q2. Do I book accommodation in each of the places in the itinerary or is it better to base yourself in the middle somewhere of each of the three stages of the trip and do day trips with a private driver? I.e., Kandy (to do dambulla, sigiriya, polonnaruwa).
Q3. Anything important I am missing from the itinerary. Should I add Horton Plains? Pinnewela?

Thank you so much, any advice appreciated.

      Colombo To Sigiriya and Back?

      Sigiriya Jan 20, 2015 at 8:44 AM

Hi can anyone advise me, how much I should expect to pay for a driver from Colombo to Sigiriya and back on the same day? Leaving at about 5am in the morning. I was told it is doable and was quoted, 13,500 Rupees. I was also quoted 5000 Rupees for a driver for a day by someone else but the Sigiriya trip may be considered a bit longer than a standard "day". How does the price sound? Too expensive or reasonable?

    • AC Bus from Colombo Airport/City to Polonnaruwa

      Polonnaruwa Jul 31, 2011 at 11:15 AM

      Hi everybody,
My plane will arrive at 8 am at Colombo Airport and I wanted go directly by bus to Polonnaruwa, which would be convenient as first step as I would like to start my visit with the Cultural Triangle.
However, I've read on this forum that it was not advisable as it is a very long trip (7 hours?) with many people standing in the bus.
      1) Would you advise to go directly to Polonnaruwa by bus?
      2) Are there any AC buses going directly from Katunayake bus station to Polonnaruwa and how long would it take ? or do I have to go to Colombo City first?
      3) From Colombo City, are there often AC buses to Polonnaruwa with chances to have a seat?
      4) How long takes the bus n°187 from Katunayake bus station to Colombo City at about 9 am?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

      Sigiriya Jun 27, 2010 at 12:45 AM

we are coming to Sigiriya around 22. July. Do you think we need to book accomodation in advance or can we count on some available rooms when we show up?

Is there some accomodation where we can book via internet or at least arrange booking by email? I haven't found anything yet.

We are looking for a budget accomodation and didn't find any hostels in Sigiriya. If there's anything in Dambulla of that kind it's fine with us, too.
