Re: Place to stay at Mount Cook
There is not a lot of choice. Most accommodation somehow belongs to The Hermitage and is very expensive. So the Alpine Lodge is a good alternative. The location in Mt. Cook Village is much better than Glentanner Park. Glentanner is some kilometres before Mt. Cook Village, there is also a small airport from which the scenic flights depart.
With cabins you must always check if bedlinen is provided.
I have not stayed at either of these places but the Alpine Lodge clearly seems more comfortable than the cabins.
I think there are one or two other backpackers but that's it.
Most people who cannot afford The Hermitage (like me LOL) stay in Twizel which is about 60 km from Mt. Cook Village. The advantage there is that you have many restaurants whereas at the Village you depend on The Hermitage.
