    Additional advice wanted

by roamer61 Online Now Jun 13, 2016 at 5:18 AM

A couple of my trips in Moab are set. Sunset tour in Arches National Park, half day tour to Islands in the Sky in Canyonlands National Park and a half day dinosaur tour.
I want to do 1 more and cant decide if I want to do a 4x4 in Arches, which would be half day; the Needles in Canyonlands, which would be a full day or, maybe something else like going to Sego Canyon.

I am going to be 55 this fall, I am not really a hiker but can go for a mile or so.
Also, it may a while until I return to the area, if at all.

So, any feedback on any of this?

  • Best day hikes near Moab, Utah

by trip333 Online Now Jun 8, 2016 at 3:17 PM

We have a week in June and are seeking recommendations on 3-4 day hikes, 4-7+/- hours, medium to difficult, trails with views or unique rock formations (love arches and thins, etc.), not afraid of heights. We'lll have a jeep for 3 days to access 4WD areas. We'll be camping one day on White Rim road. We've done Delicate Arch and Devils Garden & loved them, but nothing else. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Does anyone recommend any of the several BLM camp sites along the Colorado River near Moab. There are several camp site locations and we've never camped in Utah before. We have a tent for 2 and only need 1 evening (6/16/16). Also, what are hours that a site may be used during a day and any suggestions on signing up.

I am planning to go to Moab in October. In fact, accommodations have been tentatively booked. I would like to know, for a first time visit to Canyonlands Nat'l Park, should I do the Needles District or the more visited Islands in the Sky?

Camping eservations at Dead Horse Point State Park

by samtin Online Now Jan 18, 2016 at 4:43 AM

Hi - I see you can only make reservations 4 mths ahead of arrival date. Does anyone know if dates around the 4th July are really hard to get. Should I be poised at my computer, mouse ready at 1 minute past midnight on the relevant day (when the four month window opens)? We are concerned if we miss out it will be late to find anything else and we are already struggling to find alternative tent camping options which one can reserve in advance (beyond Devils Gdn in Arches where we hope to spend a couple of nights). We don't want to risk first-come, first-served at such a busy time of year. Thank you. Sam

Moab and along the US 191 and then I-70

by Barolo67 Online Now Nov 16, 2015 at 11:51 AM

We want to drive in the second week of January by rental car from Navajo country ( Canyon de Chelly) up the US 191 to Moab and then hike in Arches National Park and drive on to Boulder Co on the I-70. What would the road conditions in a normal winter be like? And what about hiking in Arches in January? We live in Germany and will be clothed for winter.

    getting to Moab

by mrsdoc83 Online Now Apr 7, 2014 at 10:59 AM

My husband will be going to Moab for a conference and I'm helping with the travel itinerary.

We fly from out of state and I wonder if there is a major airport closer than Salt Lake City (yes, I am doing more research on this myself, now, too) --

Also, once we get to the major airport of choice, what is the best driving route to get into Moab?

  • ordering my trip...from Moab to Zion

by elf2481 Online Now Aug 2, 2013 at 2:40 PM

Hello. I am renting a car from Albuquerque NM and have 4 day/nights to get back to Las Vegas. I want to plan a trip where I can see a lot but not go totally crazy with too much to do and waste too much time in the car. I am thinking about going from Albuquerque to Monument Valley, then to Moab and ending up in Zion which is close to Vegas. I would like to find a scenic route where I can see a lot along my drive. What route should I take and what should I be sure to see??I have never been out west and want to soak it all in! thanks for your time :)

by chrisswfc Online Now Jan 17, 2010 at 6:37 AM

Hi, will be spending a 3 nights in Moab this summer with wife and 2 adolescent kids. Looking for an "outdoor experience" type evening, BBQ, dinner around the campfire, typical "cowboy stuff" (at least as we English/French think of it!). Not really into basic camping, but would be really grateful for any suggestions. Thanks.

Planning a backpacking trip to Southern Utah

by Sunuwavi Online Now Jul 2, 2009 at 12:20 PM

OK, my boyfriend and I are starting to plan a trip: Utah at the end of August. We're planning to be there about a week.

Here's the plan so far: Fly in to Grand Junction and rent a car, drive to Moab, camp/hike in Canyonlands and Arches, other than that... who knows? Rugged wilderness abounds! Maybe Glen Canyon? Could we make it over to the western part of the state to see Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon and Zion and?

Other things we're interested in: Ancient Native American ruins & pictographs, hot springs, caves. We love anyplace that's good for a photo op, a quick swim, spectacular scenery, or a rewarding hike.

Any suggestions on itinerary or can't miss features?

  • Three Days in Moab

by tropicdiver Online Now Mar 26, 2006 at 9:41 AM

I have three days that I will be spending in the Moab area towards the end of May. My main focus will be landscape photography, specifically sunrises and sunsets. I've read about the crowds to be expected and realize the further I hike, the less people I will see, but of course, I'm not that crazy about hiking in the dark, either, nor am I camping out. I won't be 4WD'ng it, as I really have no experience doing that. Any small tour groups anyone can recommend that might suit my needs?

Any suggestions on whether I should spend more time in Arches or Canyonlands? Should I see both the Islands in the Sky area as well as Needles in Canyonlands?

How about Goblin Valley? Is it worth the drive?

    Thanks for any suggestions.
