      Best Camping in Kauai

      Kauai Sep 5, 2016 at 11:43 AM

Husband and I want to do 4 nights in Kauai, then head to Maui. It will be around Christmas, probably December 25 to December 30 in Kaui, then December 30-January 4 in Maui. We want to tent camp to save money, and spend what we save on a rental car, but I'm open for suggestions for cheap cabin accommodations. I've been researching the cabins at Koke'e State Park, Tent Camping at Camp Sloggett (they have a hot shower, which I found appealing, but there are some mixed reviews). Any suggestions for beach camping? Since we have a car should we stay on the beach instead as it will be warmer? We love hiking, which is why I was thinking Koke'e, but I also want to explore some cute towns and enjoy the beaches. Never been to Hawaii, but we are from Alaska so roughing it is not a problem for us, lol!

    • 5 Day Photography Road Trip from Vegas to Denver

      Arizona Sep 23, 2016 at 8:23 PM

      Dear Friends,
Needed some suggestions on a "quick" 5 day “Photography” road trip from Vegas to Denver during the Nov Thanksgiving weekend. 3 of us will be reaching Las Vegas on Tue night around 11 PM and have a return flight from Denver on Sun evening at around 8 PM.

I have listed down some key places which I would like to visit, all open to change though (in the order from Vegas to Denver)

      MAP: https://goo.gl/p9Mb93
      • Death Valley
      • Coral Pink Sand Dunes Park
      • Paria Canyon
      • Horseshoe Bend
      • Monument Valley
      • Shiprock, NM
      • Arches National Park
      • Aspen (Maroon Bells)

My primary interest is Photography (Nature, Wildlife, Sunrise/Sunsets, Star trails, Milky Way etc). Please let me know the most scenic routes to take from Vegas to Denver and what places/parks can I cover for Day and Night Photography.

Note: I have been to Zion, Bryce, Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon earlier, so not too keen to see them again, but wouldn’t mind including them if it takes me through a really awesome scenic byway or dark night skies. Also, I don’t mind hectic driving schedules if that helps me get good shots. I do understand looking at my plan that it involves almost 250 miles of driving every day.

      Thanks,

      Additional advice wanted

by roamer61 Online Now Jun 13, 2016 at 5:18 AM

A couple of my trips in Moab are set. Sunset tour in Arches National Park, half day tour to Islands in the Sky in Canyonlands National Park and a half day dinosaur tour.
I want to do 1 more and cant decide if I want to do a 4x4 in Arches, which would be half day; the Needles in Canyonlands, which would be a full day or, maybe something else like going to Sego Canyon.

I am going to be 55 this fall, I am not really a hiker but can go for a mile or so.
Also, it may a while until I return to the area, if at all.

So, any feedback on any of this?

Camping eservations at Dead Horse Point State Park

Hi - I see you can only make reservations 4 mths ahead of arrival date. Does anyone know if dates around the 4th July are really hard to get. Should I be poised at my computer, mouse ready at 1 minute past midnight on the relevant day (when the four month window opens)? We are concerned if we miss out it will be late to find anything else and we are already struggling to find alternative tent camping options which one can reserve in advance (beyond Devils Gdn in Arches where we hope to spend a couple of nights). We don't want to risk first-come, first-served at such a busy time of year. Thank you. Sam

OK, my boyfriend and I are starting to plan a trip: Utah at the end of August. We're planning to be there about a week.

Here's the plan so far: Fly in to Grand Junction and rent a car, drive to Moab, camp/hike in Canyonlands and Arches, other than that... who knows? Rugged wilderness abounds! Maybe Glen Canyon? Could we make it over to the western part of the state to see Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon and Zion and?

Other things we're interested in: Ancient Native American ruins & pictographs, hot springs, caves. We love anyplace that's good for a photo op, a quick swim, spectacular scenery, or a rewarding hike.

Any suggestions on itinerary or can't miss features?

by tropicdiver Online Now Mar 26, 2006 at 9:41 AM

I have three days that I will be spending in the Moab area towards the end of May. My main focus will be landscape photography, specifically sunrises and sunsets. I've read about the crowds to be expected and realize the further I hike, the less people I will see, but of course, I'm not that crazy about hiking in the dark, either, nor am I camping out. I won't be 4WD'ng it, as I really have no experience doing that. Any small tour groups anyone can recommend that might suit my needs?

Any suggestions on whether I should spend more time in Arches or Canyonlands? Should I see both the Islands in the Sky area as well as Needles in Canyonlands?

How about Goblin Valley? Is it worth the drive?

      Thanks for any suggestions.
