    • Baggage storage in Paris

      Paris Dec 3, 2016 at 10:04 PM

      Hi guys,
I am heading to Paris in January. On my last day I do not need to be at the airport until about 5 o'clock to catch my plane to Sydney. I obviously want to make the most of this as a sight-seeing day(possibly Disnayland) but will have my luggage with me. Does anybody know of any storage lockers or something I would be able to take my big bag to? Does the airport have lockers for rent? Or does Disneyland have big storage cubes? Or would some hotels offer baggage holding even when you have checked out?
      Thanks

    • Solo woman traveling in Paris on New Years Eve

      Paris Nov 28, 2016 at 10:57 AM

I am a 54 year old woman who will be arriving in Paris Orly airport on Thursday, December 29 at 5 pm,
and flying out of DeGalle airport on Sunday, January 1 at 11 am.

      My questions...

      1. What area in Paris should I stay in?
Since I really only have two days I would like a great location to walk to things in the area and as a base for sightseeing. I would be so grateful for decent, hotel and restaurant suggestions in that area?

      2. What is the best/easiest way to get from Orly to "that area" at that time of day?

      3. Are there any good one day tours?
I would probably book that for Friday or Saturday, and spend the other day on my own exploring the area around my hotel.

      4. What is there to do on New Years Eve? I don't drink but would love to know what would be safe for me to do alone that night.

      Thank you very much!

Can anyone suggest a day-trip from Paris?

      Paris Nov 11, 2016 at 7:32 AM

I will be visiting Paris in a few weeks. I have been to Paris numerous times and know it very well. Equally, I have taken many day-trips from Paris and have been to all the obvious places (and even beyond). Can anyone suggest a new place I might visit? I am looking for a place within a two hour radius by train.

I like quaint places, and/or places that has a old worldly feel to them. I enjoy visiting places with a riverside setting as well e.g. Moret-sur-Loing.

Here is a short list of day-trips I have taken:

Amiens, Auxerre, Beauvais, Bourges, Châlons-en-Champagne, Chantilly, Chartres, Compiègne, Dijon, Fontainebleau, Giverny, Moret-sur-Loing, Orléans, Provins, Reims, Rouen, Senlis, Sens, Tours, Troyes, Versailles.

I have not listed other places I have visisted that are further a way e.g. Caen, Lyon, Metz, Nancy, Nantes, Rennes etc.

At the moment I am thinking of visiting Meaux (because there is a cathedral in Meaux), but I would like to have a few other places on my list. I thought of trying to get to Avallon and/or Loches, but it appears there aren't any direct (or very few direct) trains to Avallon or Loches.

      Many thanks

      Planning to go to Marseille

by Turska Online Now May 29, 2016 at 2:03 PM

We just booked flights to Nice at begining of September. We are not planning to stay there (I´ve been there once, and it is enough for me).
We just found cheap flights, and thought we could go by train to some other town. We like quite big towns on hollidays and I was thinking about Marseille. There is not so much info in Finnish, so I came here again. :)
If we choose to stay there, I start checking on apartments at airbnb. We like to stay quite central (witch we don´t do at home, so we find it nice at hollidays) and at walking distance of places where there is lots of restaurants to eat at night. Are there any bigger pedestrian areas with restaurants?
As we work part timely as salesmen at craft brewery I did also notice there is three microbreweries, witch might mean so brewpubs to have a night cap also. (Didn´t check yet so well). Of course France is a wine country, but we know craft beer is getting popular there also.
We also like history, and it lookes like there is something to see there in this inrest also. And we could make some daytrips of course.
I did also check Toulon and Aix, and we haven´t made final decicion yet. But my husband wants to go by train from Nice, not by bus, so I have been checking where to get by train. I guess the trains wont go to airport? It was told at some web page that there is trains, but I guess they mean we need to go by bus to downtown first.
The last night we will stay at Nice becaus of the morning fight.

Is there a french website equivalent to craigslist? I'll be there for a week, trying to learn some french and would love to buy a cheap bicycle to use for a week. Rental is ok too if it's under $100 for the week.
I'd to rent a scooter too but that's 40 euros a day, do you know of a cheaper place to rent?
      Thank you so much.

      Hi everyone,
We are a family group who will be spending a few hours in Marseille during our port stop on our Mediterranean cruise. We are interested to visit shopping malls and flea markets. Any suggestions on method of transport to use? We would however, prefer using a mini-bus being a group. Is transport readily available at the port in Marseille and transfer back to the port?
Is there any locals in this town who would be interested to meet up with a group of South Africans? Thank you.

Walk from Les Baumettes to Calanque de Sormiou

by chrisdScotland Online Now Jul 7, 2015 at 5:49 AM

Can anyone tell me if there is an obvious walking path from where the number 22 bus drops you in Les Baumettes down to Calanque de Sormiou? The path I can see on Google maps looks obvious enough but, although we are fit enough to pick our way over rough terrain, we don't want to guess our route down and up again. We will be on foot but I read in information that, in the summer months, people have to walk some distance from car parks down to this area anyway. (I think this is pertains to the road from the other direction) Any first hand information out there?

      Voyages-sncf Tickets

I hope to take a train from Marseille to Lyon - morning of 5th September. Last Saturday (9th May) I was on the Voyages-sncf site to see how near to that date they were taking booking. I found they were taking bookings up to Sunday 30th August. I thought that would mean today, a week later, they would possibly be up to my date but it's still only up to 30th August. I know it is usually only 3 months ahead you can book. I have asked that they send me a message when tickets go on sale but is that really likely to be another 3 weeks time?

Not City Pass, but Transportation Pass

by Sandypaws3 Online Now Feb 2, 2015 at 8:11 AM

We'd like to purchase a 24 hour transportation pass in Marseille. According to what I've read the pass -- don't know the name -- is similar to the Mobilis Pass in Paris. However, it seems that like the Paris Visite, the City Pass is pushed to tourists. We wouldn't mind purchasing the City Pass if we were going to be there longer, but we're not -- only enough time to walk around and see a few things, in addition to dining in a restaurant. Where can one purchase the 24 hours, 5 Euros (or thereabouts) transportation pass, not the City Pass? Thanks!

Can anyone help me with car parking outside Marseille?

by Archway Online Now Sep 21, 2014 at 5:47 AM

      Hi,

I wonder if anyone could recommend a safe place to park (public car park) east or southeast of Marseille? It should be close to a station or bus route so that we can get into Marseille. I do not want to take our car into Marseille.

We are ideally looking for somewhere in La Valentine as we'll be visiting some shops there. We would then like to leave our car in the area to go into Marseille for half a day, maybe 5 or six hours. I don't think we can just leave our car in the car park of a shop. We know that there is a bus that runs through La Valentine to Marseille i.e. bus no. 50 [Castellane - Les Escourtines] so any public car park that is safe in the area would be our first choice.

      Many thanks

      Consigne Bagages at Marseille Saint-Charles

by elisabethsb Online Now Jun 25, 2014 at 1:48 AM

Bonjour! I will be arriving at the Gare de Marseille Saint-Charles tomorrow afternoon and hope to check my suitcase at the consigne automatique before continuing to my next destination (a day trip to La Ciotat). I've read a lot about how this process works, how much it costs, where it's located, etc ... but I haven't been able to find any information about how much TIME it takes. I know that there is a metal detector/security procedure involved, so I imagine that it is not the speediest process in the world.

My current ticket only allows me 20 minutes in between my arrival at Gare Saint-Charles and my departure via regional train to La Ciotat. Will this be enough time to check a bag at the consigne automatique and run to my train??

      Thank you,
      Elisabeth

      Getting to Barcelona

by AllieK Online Now Jan 5, 2014 at 12:46 PM

      Hey!
After abit of research I have discovered that there is no direct trains from Marseille to Barcelona. I am looking to travel on the 23rd of April (after Easter weekend). I contacted the train company and they said the only way to do it is travel to Port Bou, then stay overnight and continue on with the journey the next day. This made me also look at flying. I am not sure which one would cost less as i'm on a budget but I am very exciting for seeing Provence and don't want to have to get it out of my itinerary.

Has anyone done this route and have any other suggestions on how to get there? It doesn't look like Eurolines has any ether.
      Bus or Train travel?
Are both of these airports easy access to the city centre?
      Any thoughts!

      Thanks guys!
