    • Assessing the AV2 trail and recomendation where to escape after the 5th day

      Dolomiti Jul 27, 2016 at 1:41 AM

      Hi,
My partner and I are planning to arranged to do the first 5 days of Alta Via 2 in the Dolomites. We hike quite a bit but is always just for 1 or 2 days at a time. We are trying to get a better idea of the trail to make sure it is not beyond our capabilities. Our days, along the AV2, are listed below:

      Questions:
      1. Can someone comment on what kind of equipment we need and what kind of equiptment is helpful (hiking poles vs. ferratas kits)l. We want to avoid via ferratas.

      2. On day 5/6 is there a good place to finish the hike and get back into town. We want to make our way back to Milan .

      Thanks!

Day 1 Bressanone to Rifugio Ditta di Bressanone Cicerone book difficulty rating: 2

Giro dei Cinque Laghi (In July)

by TerenceG2 Online Now Jul 5, 2016 at 2:44 PM

I have heard about this trail route on-line, and seen some videos, however I cannot find comments regarding this. We are interested in spending a day trekking during our stay in Madonna di Campiglio and this trail route seems to be ideal with 13.6km. Do we need any particular equipment for the trail, and does it involve any climbing?   Would a guide be necessary? Or should a GPS with the trail be enough?  We will be a group of 4 friends (early 20s), most of which are active.

flying into bergamo airport at just after 20:00 on a thursday. dont want to lose a whole day the next day getting to the brenta via Madonna di Campiglio. Either train to Trento overnight with no sleep (yuk! plus several hours wait in station until buses start running) or spend most of next day getting there by train plus bus (lunchtime earliest arrival), so not up mountain until mid-afternoon or direct bus from milan also arriving at lunchtime. please has anyone got any advice whether there are any alternatives.
      help would be really appreciated

    • Ski season?

by maybesomeone Online Now May 1, 2005 at 7:03 PM

When does the ski season start here, ie. when is the mountain covered with snow? Is this a resort where we can ski at all week (we're intermediate skiers) or will we get bored after a day or two?

      Thanks!

Hello I am intending to travel to fly to Milan and travel to Madonna di Campiglio around the 24th December for 4 or 5 days skiing. I've seen comments around that there is a bus service from Trento to Madonna di Campiglio - does anyone know how often this bus runs - is there a timetable? Would also welcome any comments on other resorts that may be better that are close by Milan. Thanks
