      Milan Study

      Milan Jun 28, 2016 at 10:25 PM

My daughter and 2 friends arrive at Malpensa on 11th July afternoon. They are there till 23rd July for a summer course at NABA university (downtown of Navigli area). They are staying near the institute itself.

      Now,

      1. How do they get to that area from the Malpensa airport?

      2. How do they travel around Milan? What is the best process to sight see around Milan, and what all to see? They will be staying near the Central Station on night of 23rd (basically spend the whole day of 23rd roaming around Milan City).

      3. How to travel to and from Linate airport and NABA? For the 3, will a Taxi be more cost effective?

      Thanks in advance friends.

My daughter and 2 friends are in Milan for a study programme. On 24th July Sunday morning they leave by train for Venice from where they fly back home on 25th evening. They are going to Rome for this weekend of 16/17 July.

Now where can they take a full day tour on 23rd July, as they might be free from early morning, and may have already roamed around Milan enough by then? They are staying at a hotel near Milan Central for the 23rd Night.

      Thanks in advance friends.

I would like to know how crowded is Milan DAYS AFTER Fashion Week? I'm planning my trip for the end of September and i'm interested in knowing if the restaurants and the most popular places will still be full? Or now that it's finished, the city is more calm? I'll have a 8hrs stay in Milan. So I think I'll have about 4-5 hours to visit the city - approx. from 5pm till 9pm. I thought about getting to the Duomo, I'd like to go to the roof first of all. What is the quickest way (except taxi) to get there from Malpensa airport?
What can I do in 3 hours left - what will be open in these hours? It will be Tuesday

Day Trips by Train from Milan

      Milan May 22, 2016 at 5:18 AM

We will be in Milan for 5 nights mid July. We have visited Milan twice previously once on a tour when we stayed 2 nights in Stresa, and 4 years ago 5 nights in Milan by ourselves, with day trips to Lake Como & Bergamo. That year we travelled from Venice (3 days) to Milan. We have also visited Lake Lugano.

Looking for suggestions, train trip approx. 1.5 to 2 hours maximum. Like historic buildings, local food, easy walking town, local markets. Does not have to be to lakes. Our accommodation will be very close to Milan Centraal station.

      Last Supper Ticket

      Milan May 17, 2016 at 7:44 AM

Hi, I have called (via phone direct not through tour agency) to made a reservation for tickets to see the Last Supper. I was given a booking number. The lady did obtain my name and email address too, but I did not receive any email confirmation. They have deduct the money from my credit card. Is it how its works (just booking number without any email)? Do I just turn up and mention my booking number?

Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

      Milan May 7, 2016 at 6:03 PM

Hey, I've been trying to book tickets to see the Last Supper since, February, and I turn to you guys as my last chance.
It seems like they don't release tickets to individuals anymore; I kept checking for an individual ticket and the web site said "not available yet" until some time in April, then said "sold out."
Some tickets do seem to be available packaged with things I don't want to see, at high prices, however.
Can anyone recommend a way to see the fresco, at least packaged with something like the Brera Castle? I'll be arriving on May 13 and want to see it before I leave on the afternoon of the 15th, when I leave; it seems like I'm out of luck, however.
      Yours,
      Tom

      Train from Milan to Florence

      Milan May 2, 2016 at 5:32 PM

Family arriving in Milan Malpensa about 8:40 a.m. They plan to take the train to Florence. The Trenitalia site isn't letting me look at dates in July but looking at dates for next week it looks like there is a regional train every hour to Florence (via Milano Centrale).

Can anyone tell me what the icon (looks like a shopping cart with a cross out through it) means? It says "The travel solution is not sellable for the selected segment". You can see it here - lefrecce.it/B2CWeb/search.do.... Does that mean you have to buy the tickets at the airport?

      Bergamo Apr 22, 2016 at 11:52 AM

      Hi.
Wife n I are flying Tuesday morning to begamo, we've booked a rental car as we want to drive to the lakes, my question is though , is it more practical to leave the car at the airport car park in the rental park then get a bus into begamo or would it be far cheaper to drive into town n pay the parking for a few hours ?

Where do you recommend us to park to athe least go on the funicular?
Any other places within begamo you would go to see ?

      What's wrong with Milano??

      Milan Apr 15, 2016 at 2:45 AM

To my surprise there are very few travel tips for Milano (big city!) here on VT!! Can't believe there is anything wrong with the place :-)
I've never been there, but will have a few hectic days next month. Don't know how much time I'll have to look around, but if I have the chance, what is the one thing I certainly must not miss? I, know... depends on what I like, but there usually is something just everybody must see :-)

    • place to stay for first-time visit

      Milan Apr 3, 2016 at 11:17 AM

      Hello,
Can anyone recommend a place to stay for two nights in Milan, that would allow me to see, primarily Leonardo's Last Supper and the Duomo, and also get a feel for the city and not have a hard time making an early train to Florence?
I assume that would be near the train station, if that's ok in Milan.
I can communicate with the staff in Italian and am not so much worried about much more than cleanliness and safety, and convenience, and saving some money to spend in restaurants.
      Cheers,
      Tom

We are leaving Switzerland after a week and staying one night in Como before we head back to Venice to fly home.  We will possess a Swiss Rail Pass for our travels in Switzerland. What is a reasonable time for us to be able to get to Milan to catch a train to Venice? I understand that you get a discount the earlier you book so I want to book that leg.  Not sure how long the trip is from Como to Milan or how often trains run. What is the cost and duration of the ticket Como to Milan and Milan to Venice?
