My wife and I are planning to tour the Black Forest area in March 2017.
We were wondering if we may encounter any problems with bad weather at this time of year?
We know that there may be snow. which is as far as i am concerned will be a bonus? (Will be travelling in a 4x4.)
But will the normal tourist sites be open at this time of year?
We are thinking of basing ourselves in the lake Titisee area, can anyone give us some tips on any must see things or thing we should do.
Thanks in advance.
Me and my husband with our two children 15 and 13 years old are heading to Black Forest area on 25th of October. We will arrive at Frankfurt airport from Berlin (by train) to receive our rented car then to our pre-booked farm house in a village near Linden (some where in the east of the forest).
We will stay 5 nights and this is our primary itinerary. I need your expert suggestions of any modifications. We don't plan to hiking or dining but only to getting around to picturesque places, beautiful nature, culture and history. We also able to go to a lot of places in one day and love walking and not get tired quickly.
25 October Frankfurt airport (13:30 pm) to the farmhouse in Tennenbronn Schramberg (3 hours drive) then walking in the area around the house in the forest.
26 October driving in the early morning to Triberger falls then to Titisee lake then to Todtnau falls and the roller coaster and may be the cable cars.
27 October driving in the early morning to Colmar (France) then to Strasburg.
28 October driving to Europpark (for my kids).
29 October, I am not decided yet to drive to Interlaken in Switzerland (3 hours drive) because I had been there before and my kids are not, they would love to see the high range mountains of the Alps. We can start the journey at 6 am arrive at 9 am then leave at 4 or 5 pm (sunset in this area is around 5pm)
Or to go to Baden-Baden but if it is similar to Strasburg or Colmar they will be enough.
I heard also of the open air museum I don't know where is it and on which day can be done. I would like also to see the coco clock making and may be a castle or something.
I would appreciate all your comments and thanks in advance, I always relied on your suggestions in all my previous trips.
Is there any private car companies providing service for transfering
Hi all, We're looking into travelling to the Black Forest region in the first week of November. Firstly, what is the weather like at that time? Is it very likely to snow? As we are considering renting a car as we have a 4yr old and 2 yr old. We are not used to driving in snow so don't want it to be dangerous.
Secondly, where would be a good place to stay as a base. We will be flying to Baden-Baden and definitely visiting Europa Park. Would one day be enough for this park? Would it be mid-term holidays at that time there? Other places are still a question mark (suggestions for good places for kids welcome!). The Triborg waterfalls seem nice too.
I've seen some chalets/farms which seem nice to stay but not sure if they would be too far out. We prefer a self-catering place rather than hotel because of the kids. Animals on a farm would definitely go down well with them!! Many have also mentioned Freiburg as a good base.
Thanks in advance!!
In 1999 I was in Heidelberg and we stayed at a hotel that was out in the woods a bit. On the way to the hotel in our tour bus, we passed a large field - I think it was a winery field as I remember rows of grapes or something and behind this, up on the hill from the crops, was a building that looked like an old castle. It had a tower and a wall and a few buildings. Later that night, upon closer inspection there was a patio that was obviously a casual restaurant and we learned that there were people living there - as a Bed and Breakfast or a hotel.
I'm trying to find where this was.... because I'm going back now, 17 years later and I'd love to see it again... any ideas??? :(
I am travelling from Slovenia to France in August by train and I have just booked a train from Lesce-Bled which arrives in Stuttgart at 1.16am. I am getting a train from Stuttgart to Paris at 6.50am so it's a bit of a wait. I really don't want to have to book a hostel if possible so was wondering if anyone knows if there's a waiting room or anywhere I can go so I don't have to sit out on the street!
A bunch of us are going to Stuttgart Oktoberfest this year and I'm in need of some guidance please!
I've read that we need to book a table. Is that true? Cant we just go early, lay claim to a spot and stay there like you do at Munich's Oktoberfest? I don't mind having to reserve a table if the money can be put towards food or beer (does it?), otherwise 40-60 euro a head is quite expensive.
Also I've read some old reviews saying we need to by food tickets if we wanna eat anything outside of junk food. Is that right and how does that work?
Any feedback would be most appreciated!! Thanks in advance. Sonja
Will be travelling from Malta to Baden Baden for a week in September. Was thinking to base in Titisee. Intension is to explore the Black Forest Region. Hey guys Can someone please explain me the easiest way to get to train station that goes to Strasbourg from Baden Airpark? I had been looking trains on www.thetrainline-europe.com, but I didn't find where is train station in Baden Baden, so I don't want to buy tickets for a wrong station if there is more than one station in Baden Baden. Also, is there easier way to get to Strasbourg, cause this seems really confusing to me. Thank you in advance for your answers! Anja
I am traveling to Stuttgart from Delhi. I am planning to take a direct flight from Delhi to Frankfurt and take a train from there to Stuttgart. It seems like I can catch a train from the Frankfurt Airport Station to Stuttgart HBF (DB Bahn, 20 EUR.) I am writing this to ask if it is as easy as it sounds or is there anything I need to keep in mind (For E.g: I will have some baggage - Around 30 Kgs so it wont be great idea if involves a lot of walking/taking pubic transport/if there is a baggage restriction on the trains)
My husband, Troy is a descendant of Friedrich von Schiller. Read more about it at troyanderson.us/friedrich-vo....
We have made a special trip to come to visit Schiller Nationalmuseum in Marbach. It seems to us there are no hotel in Marbach, Germany and we found your hotel names “Friedrich von Schiller”.
We are planning to take the train from Weimar to Marbach, Germany on Dec. 3, 2015, scheduling arrive at the train station about 7:30pm or 8:30 pm. We are going to Weimar first the day before.
We are going to catch a train to Munich on Dec. 4, 2015 in the afternoon about 3:00PM
I have done my research and find 2 hotels for now:
1. Romantik Hotel Friedrich von Schiller
Marktplatz 4+5, 74321 Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany –
We like this one because it is named after my husband's multi-grandfather. It looks very nice but a bit pricy.
2. Hotel & Restaurant Goldener Pflug
Dorfstraße 2-6 , 71636 Ludwigsburg, Germany –
I think that this one is closer to the museum and price is better, including breakfast.
If you have experience, can you recommend?
1. What train station are they close to? Ludwigsburg? Bietigheim-Bissingen?
2. How far is the train station to the hotels? Can we walk? How should we get to you?
3. We have very limited time being there. We are concerned due to our very tight schedule, we probably should stay in Ludwigsburg or Marbach if there are hotels there. Can you recommend? What do you think?
4. How far are they from Schiller Nationalmuseum? Can we take train to get there?
5. How often is the train since we have to get back to the hotel to pick up our luggage to catch a train to Munich.
6. If we decide to rent a car at your hotel when we arrive and return the car in Munich, Germany. Is it possible?
Thank you very much.

Planning ahead for a trip to the Schwarzwald with my wife in December. Considering a train journey with a possible stop-off in Donaueschingen. But when I was there about a year ago, the Donauquelle was undergoing serious reconstruction. Has this 'notional' source of the Donau been restored to its former architectural glory?
I will be in Freiburg 30th Oct - 2nd Nov. I've just realised that this covers Halloween, All Saints and All Souls Day. I suspect (to be honest, I hope) that Badners don't celebrate Halloween in the same tacky(!) way as the USA and latterly the UK. In fact, isn't the Germans' use of 'Halloween' Denglish? What was wrong with 'Vorabend vom Allerheiligenfest'?! Question: On Nov 1 and Nov 2 do any traditional events relating to Allerheiligen and Allerseelen take place in Südbaden? Would need to be accessible by train or bus from Freiburg.

Does anyone know what it would be like driving from Heidelberg to Salzburg, Austria for just a day or two? Also, are there any interesting WWII historical sites in proximity to Heidelberg - one daughter is a huge history buff. Only there for about 10 days and want to make the most of it. Right now, Heidelberg is the only place we are visiting after flying into Frankfurt. (This was originally posted in the wrong forum)
I am going to Karlsruhe on a conference In October and I think I can get the Hahn express from the airport to the centre of Karlsruhe. Can anyone confirm this.

We are traveling from Basel by train ending up in Heidelberg and what is interesting to visit in 4 days? And are interested in historic quaint, interesting villages to walk around, good food and local beer and breweries. Villages with the centers reasonably a short walk, less than 1 Km, to the train station. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.?
We are getting out at Konstanz by train, is this okay? Can I cover most of the Boden see's places by starting from here?
How shall I start?
Hello! On Sunday I'm going to Freiburg and I'm arriving in the evening (and I'll be staying there for a month for a study-holiday). Then on Monday I'll need to go from Vauban to the city centre by bus.
Can you tell me if I can I buy bus tickets directly on board? Otherwise where can I find them?
Thank you in advance!
What is the best part of the city to have good view of the lake? We will be arriving from the south and we would like to book a hotel at the part of the area which is more easy to access the lake on foot and get good views. Thank you.
