Re: price of food and drink
An English pint measure if you can get it, of local lager, will average about €2,50
Don't be fooled if you see a 'pint' advertised for €2 as it will be more often than not a Portuguese 'caneca' or 'large beer' which is only 40cl ie about 2/3rds an English pint, or a US pint at best which is just about 50cl.
(To the Portuguese a 'pint'is just a word for a large glass of beer and as a pint is not a legal measure there's nothing you can do about it!)
A can of coke in a pub is about €1,50, local bottle beer for 33cl bottle around €1,25 but sometimes 1 Euro eg in the station bar at Loulé.
In supermarkets a 1 litre bottle of local beer will be around €1,50 and a 33cl can or bottle about 75 cents, but prices do vary a lot. I bought a 1.5 litre bottle of Fanta the other day for 69 cents. A 50cl bottle of coke etc is about 75 cents. Own brand 2 litre bottles can be as low as 40 cents but some of it is very nasty.
You can easily find a 'prato do dia' or set meal for 6 or 7 Euros around town and you can equally easily pay five times that amount if you wish.
