    • Currency exchange

      Bali Jan 13, 2017 at 1:42 AM

Hi, should I exchange my GBP£ for Bali currency in the UK or should I wait until I get to Bali?

      Seminyak or Sanur

      Bali Jan 3, 2017 at 11:47 PM

If staying for two days before departing, which one would you prefer?

    • Last 4 nights Uluwatu or Lombok?

      Bali Jan 5, 2017 at 7:28 AM

I am travelling to Bali for 14 nights in June and I am seeking advice on where to visit and for how long.

This is a loose plan so far however I am open to suggestions!

      4 nights Seminyak
      3 Nights Ubud
      3 Nights Gili T
4 Nights either Lombok with a day trip to Uluwatu during our stay in Seminyak or 3 nights in Uluwatu and an extra night in Gili T with day trip to Lombok.

In terms of what we are looking for on our trip, we are looking for a variety of things. We are a young couple and like going out and partying however we also want to do lots of cultural things as well and see some temples. We prefer to stay in five star hotels/villas and we have already chosen ones we like in Seminyak, Ubud and gili T.

Ideally we would like at least one destination on our trip to include nice white sand beaches however we are not big water sports people so that is not mandatory. We have decided against Nusa Dua though as we want to experience more of what Bali has to offer rather than stay in a 5 star resort the whole time.

I would also like to swim with turtles which I have heard you can do in Gili T and see some waterfalls which seem to be abundant on Lombok however I was wondering if this could be a day trip?

I want to visit all of the above at some point during the trip however I am undecided on whether to do a day trip to Lombok when in Gili T and stay in Uluwatu for 3 nights or to visit Uluwatu for a day trip while in Seminyak and then stick with Lombok for 4 nights. My main concerns are how few and expensive the nice resorts are in uluwatu are (I am finding it difficult to find the right accommodation in terms of price, availability and service level) while I have found this to be easier on the north side of Lombok I am concerned about the travelling time staying in Lombok will add on to the trip and that the nice beaches seem to be much further south far from the hotels in the north?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

      Travel Route

      Bali Dec 25, 2016 at 11:33 PM

I have a thought on travel route in Bali (7nghts) and would like the experienced members to comment on the pro & cons
....Go direct from airport to Sanur and stay for two nights (leaving one case in local storage)
Then travel to Ubud for two nights
Then travel up onwards over hills to Lavina or Pemuteran (recommended by lonely planet) for two nights
Then take west coast road back and stay in Seminyak for one night before collecting case & departure

I am estimating travel time in car with driver, subject to traffic....are these correct?
      30mins from Sunur
2.5 hrs from Ubud to Lavina
3 hours from Pemuteran to Seminyak
      25mins Seminyak to Airport

I look forward to your comments

Is Lonely Planet Ebook worth buying?

      Bali Dec 22, 2016 at 10:00 PM

Is lonely planet ebook on Bali worth buying and upto date?
I head off in a few weeks and wanted to ask members if any had bought it and thought this ebook was a worth while addition for their trip?
Will not go diving so don't need it on that front.
While writing can members advise if Sanur is worth a two or three day visit .....current thought is to perhaps head straight there from flight arrival as it should only take 25mins with roads being quiet late at night.

      All thoughts welcome and appreciated

    • The name of Hotel / Homestay ??

by nskk Online Now Oct 28, 2014 at 8:53 AM

In Jan. 2012 I stayed at a hotel / homestay on Gang Sorga, adjacent to Poppies 1. I am looking for the name of this place. It was directly beside Hotel Sorga, which is at the beach end of the laneway just metres away from Poppies 1.
Another hotel I am certain of as you enter Gang Sorga from Poppies 1 is New Arena. Any mention of hotels on google maps, Tripadvisor or Google Earth are not the hotel I am looking for. I cannot find its name in travel guides.
This would be the best information I could give as to the relative location of the homestay / hotel name I look for.
This is a link to the some photos of the pool and rooms surrounding.

      Kuta, how noisy is it?

by matjung Online Now Jan 6, 2014 at 1:10 AM

Hello, I would have a query about Kuta.
My travel book seems to be a big fan of this area.
What worries me, is that it is close to the airport.
So I am wondering, how noisy is it at Kuta Bay?
If I stayed in a hotel there, would the planes wake me up in the morning?
      Thanks for sharining your views.

    • Spending 1 month in Bali/Lombak.. need advice!

by travelz0r Online Now Jan 26, 2011 at 7:34 PM

      Hi All,

I am 26 years old and will be traveling to Bali for one month in June/July. I would like to hear some ideas on parts of the islands to visit/stay. My plan at the moment is to fly in and check into a temporary hotel until I find a place that suits me. I will want to see much of the islands (Ubud, Lombak(Kuta), Mawi Beach +more) and so I am open to changing hotels a couple of times.

Really I am looking for advice in the following areas:
      1) Air travel from the States is going to run me about2,000 if anyone has suggestions how to lower this cost (is it reasonable?)

      2) Ideally I would like to stay in a remote place with not too many amenities, except for a shower and mosquito netting - any suggestions on what locations these can be found? close to a beach would be nice

      3) Will I be okay not booking things in advance considering June/July dates?

I know it is cliche since I am a tourist but I do not want to be around tourists. I want to be in a peaceful place but where I can taxi/bike to food/fishing/civilization.

Thanks in advance you are all a great resource from what I can see in the posts read. I am open to suggestions and look forward to hearing from you all!!

My question is when I just wanna chill for a day in Kuta, is there a hotel where I can just pay to use the pool & relax for an afternoon?

      Hi all -

I'm looking for a chill hotel/losman in Kuta/Legian/Seminyak area for me and my boyfriend. I'd like to be far enough from the madness of Kuta beach/clubs etc, but close enough to walk over if we would like.

And we're on a budget - not a SUPER tight budget, but a budget none-the-less.

      Any recommendations?

      From Kuta to Padang Bai

by jamiezhuo Online Now Dec 25, 2008 at 11:16 AM

      Hi all,

My friend and I will be going to Bali for diving next month. We booked a room at Febri's Hotel and Spa which is at Kuta, however, later we are advised by the dive operator to stay at Padang Bai instead so that we do not have to travel for very far for the diving every morning for 4 days. Can someone tell me how long will it take to go from Kuta to Pandang Bai ? if staying at pandang is better for us, can you recommend a hotel there?

      Thanks alot !!

by aus_res Online Now Sep 23, 2008 at 6:59 PM

      Hello fellow travellers,

I posted this in the Bali forum but thought I'd try here as well.

My partner and I are going to Bali in December and I'm blown away by the amount of different hotels there are and am finding it hard to choose. Can anyone please offer some advice?

      What we would like:

Somewhere in Kuta, low key (i.e. not a party hotel), nice pool, nice room, nice price - we'll go to50pp a night but really would prefer something around30-$40.

We would like to relax around the pool, maybe get massage, drinks, etc.

Thank you so much in advance for any advice you can offer, would really appreciate it.
