    • How safe is it to leave a rental car with luggage while we take walks in the Highlands?

      Scotland Sep 8, 2016 at 12:33 PM

Since walks and hikes are such an integral part of a Highlands trip this question has been bugging me. We'd like to stop off for a 3-4 hour walk in Glencoe between our B&B stops in Oban and Plockton however we'll have our bags with us. Oddly enough this is the only time that it will be a problem. I suppose that we could re-arrange our day trips however we'd be doubling back to see the area - not that it would be a hardship! Anyway, can any see a problem with leaving our worldly belongings in a road-side car park for a few hours? Thanks, Pete

    • is there opportunity to research Clan Mcfadden on Isle of Mull?

by Cbessmer Online Now Aug 11, 2015 at 4:05 PM

We understand that McFadden may be a sept of the clan McLean. My name is Brad McFadden and my wife and I are trying to see if Mull might have been the birthplace of my tenth great grandfather (Andrew McFadden) in 1675. The only records we have say he was from The Highlands. he moved to Garvagh, Derry, NI for a short while and then emigrated to the New World (Merrymeeting Bay, Maine) in 1718. We are traveling to Scotland next month and would love to do a little family genealogy research. Are any old parish records available for visitors to research? Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you.

    • What to do for a day on Isle of Mull

by wackywidow Online Now Jul 23, 2012 at 11:55 AM

I am traveling with my four children, ages 21-14, to Scotland. We want to visit the Duart Castle but wasn't sure whether it was worth taking our rental car to the Isle so we could travel around. Or, just book the package which includes ferry passage, coach and entrance to the castle. Are there beaches near the castle to walk to?

      Suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

We have been told by our travel agent that rental car companies will not allow their cars to take the ferry to the Isle of Mull. Does anyone have experience with this issue?

      Quiet spots

by karen_mo Online Now Mar 29, 2006 at 11:09 AM

      HI there,
We are going to Mull in April for 4 days and would love some tips of spots to walk for a bit of peace and quiet. We have a guide book to tell us all the tourist points but we fancied a day of walking in some nice scenery (sea or mountain). Can someone recommend a good walk, where would we need to drive to to start out. Are there any walking guides available when we get to the island. (staying in Tobermory but catching ferry from Oban)

      Many thanks, Karen

      Visiting Mull overnight

by ringleader Online Now Feb 26, 2004 at 9:42 AM

How about the Isle of Mull. Does anyone know about the car ferries (and prices) available and a good place to stay overnight? What else would there be to see and do there if our family stayed there overnight?
