    • Mountjoy Street - Dublin

      Dublin Nov 14, 2016 at 6:35 AM

I will be visiting Dublin starting tomorrow. My hostel is located on Mountjoy street, and recently I've read mixed review about the location. Generally this doesn't affect me, since I'm mostly a daytime traveler and tend to avoid unsafe areas/crowds. However, tomorrow I would be arriving around 9pm. My initial plan was to walk on foot from O'Connel Bridge, but in the light of the reviews I've read, I'm not so sure anymore. What do you recommend? Is there a real risk of getting mugged/attacked?

Also, any other safety advice would be highly appreciated.

      Thanks a lot.

      Ireland Nov 22, 2016 at 9:51 AM

Has anyone ever hired a private driver in Ireland? This would be done in lieu of renting a car. Is it expensive? Recommended? I'm planning a drip that goes from Dublin south around the shore up to Galway and back to Dublin. This would probably be done in a week's time. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

    • Waterford Worth it?

      Ireland Nov 8, 2016 at 5:54 AM

I am travelling to Ireland next May and will be there for about 10 days. Due to time constraints my friend and I are going to be staying in the southern part of the country. I love Waterford Crystal and would like to go tour the factory and store. However, it seems that there isn't much else there to see so I'm not sure if we'd spend the night there. We will be travelling by train and it doesn't look like there is anywhere to store luggage for a few hours. With our limited time, is it worth it to go to Waterford? Are there other things we shouldn't miss there that I'm missing? Just for reference, we're planning to spend 3 nights in Dublin and then also hit Cork, Limerick, either Ennis or Shannon, visit the Cliffs of Moher, go to Galway and then make our way back to Dublin. What do you think? Should we go to Waterford? Thank you for any help you can give.

Only 3 hrs to visit the island?

by schmechi Online Now Apr 12, 2011 at 11:59 PM

Regarding aranislandferries.com/times_... there are ferries to Inishmore from Ros a'Mhil at 1pm. The last return ferry will be at 5pm. Regarding to my information the sailing time will be 45 minutes...

So do you think, that this short time on the island suffice to get an impression and to visit the major sights by rented bycicle? I realize, that it will probably be a very compendious tour, but unfortunately my time is very limited and I'd like to visit parts of Connemara (I'm thinking about Kylemore Abbey and a quick look at the Twelve Bens) ante meridien...

Or should I even forego the Aran islands and make a more detailed Connemara-tour?

      Hello,
I would love to learn a few words in Irish to use in Gaeltacht areas. I have a book on Irish place names and have learned a little from that. And I know how to say Slainte. But I know little else and when I know the word, I worry about correct pronunciaton. Might you tell me a few phrases such as "hello," "please," "thank you" "pardon me" and "where is.." along with some type of pronunciation guide (this is the hard part, I think). Thank you so much.

      Surfing on Inishmore?

by GemTones Online Now Nov 11, 2006 at 4:35 PM

My niece is getting married on Inishmore in September of '07. I am debating making the trek from California. I know there is quality surf in parts of Ireland and that September is a good month for swells, does anyone know if there are surf spots on the island. It would seal the deal for me.

      Thanks!
