      Transit at Sengakuji Station

      Tokyo Oct 13, 2016 at 7:19 PM

I need to go from Asakusabashi Station to Haneda Airport. I have already checked Hyperdia and see there are direct as well as some that require 1 transit at Sengakuji Station, ie:

Can anyone help to clarify about the change of train at Sengakuji please? I see only 1 minute wait. Is the change at the same platform or the platform across?
I would try to catch the direct train from Asakusabashi to Haneda of cause, but just in case..

      Thanks, Mel

      Hokkaido Oct 4, 2016 at 5:50 PM

      Hi fellow VTs,
I need help in your views. I be travelling with grp of 4 (2 couples). We be travelling to Japan nxt yr late march - early April (14 days). This will be our 1st trip to Japan. We have booked a return flight to New Chitose Airport, Hokkaido. Our plan was to travel to Tokyo first then head up back north to Hokkaido. I understand that the Japan Rail Pass is valid for the Shinkanse from Hakodate to Tokyo. As we are most likely to purchase the 7 days pass, we will only be in Tokyo for 7 days then head back up to Hokkaido where we plan to base ourselves at Sapporo.
(1)Once arrived, how do we travel from New Chitose Airport to Hakidote? Via train/bus.. how long & how much?
(2)For Hokkaido, is there any similar travel pass like Japan Rail pass? Is it well connected.. If yes, how much?
      (3) Any suggestion on places of interest for Hokkaido. We are nature loving people. We love sightseeing around mountains, villages etc. I heard that Hokkaido has one of the beautiful villages in Japan. Is it true..? If yes is it easily accessible via bus/train.

Sorry to trouble u with these question. We are open to any suggestions and can't wait to hear from u guys.
      Thank you in advance.

from Toyoko Inn Hokkaido Sapporo-eki Kita-guchi to NHK Bldg by Toho Subway Line

      Sapporo Oct 2, 2016 at 1:00 PM

We need to travel with heavy luggage from Toyoko Inn Hokkaido Sapporo-eki Kita-guchi to NHK Bldg by Toho Subway Line.

      Sapporo Toho Line Subway Station
I know the nearest exit at Sapporo Station to the hotel is exit 16. However, that just has stairs. Is there any route via Paseo or JR Tower Hotel Nikko which we can use whereby we won't be encountering any stairs on the way to the subway station?

      NHK Bldg
When I searched Google Street View I saw an exit very near the TV Tower with an elevator (Northwest corner of the Odori Park section where the tower stands). However, I can't seem to find the exit number.. Thus, I won't know which exit to use from within the station.

Would anyone be ably to assist by directing us to the nearest Toho Line's exits with escalator/elevator at both the Sapporo Toho Line Subway Station and Odori Toho Line Subway Station, please?
Secondly, would appreciate if anyone can post the links to the layout maps of Toho Line Sapporo and Odori Stations, please?
We are hoping to be able to travel between these two places easily and quickly with our trolley bags, without encountering any stairs..

      Tq, Mel

11 visiting days How much time in Tokyo and Kyoto?

      Tokyo Oct 22, 2016 at 11:18 AM

Hi, this will be my first trip to Japan. I would like to stay primarily in Tokyo, I think, in a hostel, but want to see Kyoto. I want to see old architecture and gardens, as well as museums, etc. I also want to see Modern Tokyo too, but am not sure how much time I should spend in each city, as I am limited on time.

Also, any suggested day trips? I like to visit large cities, but then contrast them with a day trip to a smaller more traditional place.

I will be arriving in Japan first week of November. Our travel plans include seeing Tokyo, Yokohama, Hakone and Kyoto.
I have been reading about the JRPass. Which pass should be purchased? Would it be worth it?
Also, are there any apps that you would recommend downloading prior to our trip? Any Maps? To help get around

Thinking of doing a stop over in Japan Dec/Jan 207/2018 - going via Japan to New Zealand with NZ airlines - on the bucket list for 2 wrinklies!!

Want to see Narito/Hanenko/Kyoto and was thinking of remaining in Tokyo and doing day excursions even though they're long and expensive - Not into hiking/walking cable cars/ropeways excludes many of the Mt Fuji Haven't got the confidence to explore on our own given the language probs - just want to see and experience some of the culture - but definitely no reptiles/snakes as I've got a big phobia - don't mind doing a reasonable amount of walking. Looking at Viator & City Discovery Tours ? - used Viator before

We've also heard horror stories about the cost of living - so we thought that by booking hotels a year out on a free [cancellation basis we'd do a reasonable price - will only stay in hotels with ensuite, but what about food? Anything food that is simple and cheap would be acceptable - quite happy to eat in McDs for a few days to keep prices down

All suggestions much appreciated - know it's a long way off but there is so much planning to do which I will find loads of fun - hoping to slot in Singapore & Hong Kong - kids watch your inheritance disappear!!

by mindcrime Online Now Sep 28, 2015 at 9:19 AM

we plan to do a daytrip by JR train from Kyoto to Hiroshima arriving there at 10.00am
1)is it wise to walk to Peace Park or take the tram?
2)how much time the park will take (without a visit to the museum)?
3)is there a tram line near the park for the port (Miyajima-guchi) to catch the ferry to Miyajima? which tram line? what's the ticket cost?
4)should we buy One-day pass from the tourist office (is it at ¥600?) as we may need at least 3 tickets in total for trams? (1 to the park, 1 to the port, 1 back to the station)
5)will it be easier to do the Miyajima first and then the Peace Park? if so which tram lines should we take?

Anyone in Hiroshima to share experiences?

by JohnnieM3 Online Now Feb 14, 2014 at 10:01 PM

      Hi all,

I am Johnnie, a 25 year old student from the Netherlands. I study Cultural Geography at the University of Groningen.

I am in Hiroshima for 4 weeks right now as a tourist, student and researcher. I'm here on my own, mainly to explore the range of tourists' experiences, feelings and emotions while visiting the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and vicinity. As a tourist, I'll also be experiencing the encounters at the Peace Memorial sites myself.

The aim of my study is to understand tourists’ experiences in Hiroshima, as well as their potential changed meanings regarding war, peace and nuclear weapons after touring Hiroshima.

While I'm here, I would very much like to get in contact with other tourists and share some of our experiences. That would help me a lot to better understand the impact of such a visit. Other than that, as a tourist, some company and socializing a bit would do me good while I'm here for 4 weeks.

If anyone is in Hiroshima in February and would like to meet, let me know :) . Or e-mail me at Hope to talk to you soon!

      cheap hotel and sightseeing...

by alex_aroundtheworld Online Now Dec 11, 2010 at 8:29 PM

I will be in Hiroshima coming January and staying 2 nights.

I dont have a clue what to do there. Of course, first of all I wanna see the history of Hiroshima. I am not into museums, but if there is a good one about history of Hiroshima, then I would like to go.

I dont know how big the place is and how to get around there. We will be two persons.
How can I make a plan of what to do there and how to find out how to get there? We do not speak japanese.

Can someone help me in telling me in which areas we should get a hotel (and where to book it online) and where to go?

thanks and hoping to hear back soon. I believe I have to book a hotel room quick.

Overnight stopover -- what can I see?

by ellyse Online Now Oct 4, 2010 at 7:07 AM

I will have a stopover at HIJ airport soon on a weekday night, arriving at 2010 (have to do customs clearance) and then leaving at 0920 the next morning. Both flights are international and it's not possible to do online check-in.

I'm looking at staying at a hostel near JR Hiroshima station, and taking the airport shuttle to get there and then back to the airport the next morning, which should take about 1 hour each way.

Or, is there any non-smoking place (McDonald's or Internet cafe) where I could spend the night? Capsule hotel would also be an interesting option, if anyone knows of any that take female guests.

Will I be able to do any sightseeing at all? Or, at least try the local okonomiyaki? I'm just trying not to make it a trip where I see nothing apart from the airport, accommodation, and airport transport!

    • Day itinerary in Hiroshima/Miyajima

by Lad_uk Online Now May 7, 2009 at 2:37 PM

I'm planning a day trip from Kyoto to Hiroshima and then going to Miyajima Island.

As my time will be tight, hoping to arrive by 10:30am and must leave on the 19:51 train, can anyone help with how best I should spend my time at these places? My initial thoughts are:

      Peace Park
      A-Bomb Dome
      Hiroshima Castle

      On Miyajima
      Itsukushima Shrine
Take ropeway to the top of Misen Mountain

Having looked into Miyajima further, it seems there's more to do on it than I originally thought.

What should be seen and what can be left out?

How long should I aim to spend at each place?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

there's a 4-day meeting going on in Prince Hotel (near the Hiroshima port) that i need to attend, but staying in the grand Prince hotel itself is out of budget. :( heard the views were superb.

plus, most budget friendly hostels/guest houses are located near the city center.

is there a tram line/subway/bus that goes from city center all the way to the hotel or its proximity that i can catch to and fro? (perhaps the first and last tram timing?)

How long does the train take approximately?
Can I see Mijama in the winter? Is it worht it?

I would probably go to Mijama first and then go to the Peace Park afterwards.
