If so, any recommendation on a hotel for a single male in his 20's?

      Weekend Getaway in PV

Puerto Vallarta Nov 7, 2016 at 11:50 AM

Hi VTers! My husband and I are going on a quick weekend trip to PV this weekend. I'm usually so ahead in my planning, but haven't had time to do a single thing yet. I had a few questions I was hoping you might be able to help with.

      1. What is the best way to get from the airport to the hotel? I have contacted the hotel to see if they can arrange transportation and am waiting to hear back from them. Is taking a taxi safe? I saw this tip from 2012 and was wondering if it was still valid. Taxi FROM the Airport: Taxis Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Tip - VirtualTourist Was also wondering if we should just go ahead and hire our own car.

      2. Is there a good place to exchange money? Or should we do it in the states before we leave?

      3. If there was 1 activity you could recommend we don't miss, what would it be?

      4. If there was 1 restaurant you recommend we don's miss, what would it be?

Again, our trip is short, we arrive on Friday afternoon and leave Monday afternoon so we will probably just be relaxing most of the time. We haven't had a real vacation without our child in 5 years!

We like the beach, we like to snorkel, we like to learn about the local culture, listen to live music, and love to eat Mexican food! Thank you for any suggestions!

      Cancun airport departure tax

      Mexico Nov 21, 2016 at 1:18 PM

Hi, we are travelling to Mexico on 10Dec2016 with British Airways and have read conflicting reviews on whether or not we will need to pay a local departure tax of around 900 pesos. Some reviews have said it will be included on our ticket whereas others have said we have to pay it when leaving Mexico. Does anyone know the truth about this? Even the official Cancun website doesn't mention it! If we do have to pay it locally do they definitely accept sterling?

planning time to visit colonial cities around Guanajuato

by oslocairo Online Now Aug 24, 2010 at 10:17 AM

      Hi!

I am planning a trip where I will stay in a hostel in Guanajuato and will have 9 days of visiting time. Since I am making Guanajuato my home base, I would like to visit other cities near by as day trips.

I know nothing about these places, but realize, at least that some are smaller than others and of course, and perhaps several could be visited in one day, while others would take several days.

Nonetheless, I am on a limited budget and so must return to Guanajuato to sleep. Also, I do not have a car, so would likely take a bus.

With that in mind, What are your recommendations? My thought was the following: Guadalajara ( I know, more than one day, but possibly city center highlights?), Queretaro, Morelia/ Patzuaro, Zacatecas. San Luis Potosi, Aquaclaientes,San Miguel de Allende. I have read that Dolores Hidalgo is very important historically, but architecturally, not of that much interest, but I am not sure.

I assume I will spend 3 days or so seeing Guanajuato as well and can, of course see it in small chunks of time each day as well. I have a lot of energy and don't mind long days, but am I just crazy to try to see all of this in my short time?

      I really appreciate your help.

      Thank you for any suggestions.

by srk007 Online Now May 10, 2010 at 1:24 PM

Hi. My friends and I are planning to fly into GDL on a Fri morning in June. Plan to get there around 7AM, rent a car, enjoy some local breakfast, check out some local sights and handicraft stores for a couple of hours & then head towards Puerto Vallarta by mid-day so we can get to Puerto Vallarta before it gets dark.

      We'd like to know:
      - where might be a few good places for food that are kid-friendly and offer vegetarian options
      - when do handicraft stores in Tlaquepaque open, any specific streets or stores recommended for a good experience and good deals, I'm particularly interested in silver jewellery
      - where is a safe place we can park in GDL while we check out Tlaquepaque

      Much thanks for any help.
