I am trying to get a trip to Mexico rounded up, but I am at a loss trying to get it all to come together. I am traveling with my sister in law, brother, and our daughters. We have never been outside of the country before, so this is all very new to us. We are wanting to go to Saltillo... The best advice we have gotten is, travel into Nuevo Laredo, and then take a bus from there to Saltillo. My question is, how safe is all this, and should we be concerned with anything. Some people are saying "Take loads of pictures to send to family in case you vanish," "They could kidnap you and hold you for ransom" etc. Does anyone have any other places they can suggest that is safe and kid friendly? The thing is, we are on a very tight schedule as it is hard for me to get days off of work. Here is what the schedule consists of:
Wednesday: We plan to leave our hometown at 8pm (after I get off work) and wanting to drive straight through the a destination close to the border so we can stay in a hotel on the US side for the night of THURSDAY so we can rest before we walk across.
We want to get to Mexico FRIDAY morning and stay until SUNDAY morning so my daughter has at least 2 whole days with her dad (that is the original reason we are even going). We need to leave Sunday afternoon at the latest so we can get back home sometime MONDAY, because I will have to work TUESDAY. So anything that can fit around all this would be wonderful. Any and all help is so very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Have you been here?
Any information re travel to, and attractions of this city will be welcome.
I'm driving alone back to st. George Utah. I have a felony from Utah in 2009, can I cross into Mexico and come back to the states?
when leaving Piedras Negras to return to Eagle Pass, is Texas Drivers License ok to return or do you need your Pass Port?
I have never driven in Mexico and have rented a place for the winter in Yucatan. We have been advised not to come down the coast from Brownsville and to instead come across at Laredo and towards Monterrey/Saltillo. We decided to stay in Saltillo. Are the roads coming through from the border and into and out of Saltillo safe to travel on with my family?
Will be there three nights during theater festival. Want to be in a safe area as I'm a woman traveling alone.
Is there a town called Saltillo between Pierdas Negras and Monclova? If so, if someone was born there, where would they have gone to register their birth?
Is there a parking lot on the US side so you don't have to bring your car over?
Planning to attend a Bike Rally, will be staying in Acuna. How safe is it?
Went last year to the same rally and everything was ok. US Depart of Trans. has
issued a warning not to travel to Mexico... Can someone please answer.. Thank u.

Can anyone advise me about the best way to go to Puebla from Guanajuato? Should I fly? Take the bus to Mexico City and then onto Puebla? Does ENT go to Puebla from Leon? GTO?
How are the cabs in Saltillo? Do you recommend this or another form of transportation? What about driving?
I am traveling to Acuna over Labor Day weekend with my girlfriend. From the reviews we have read, it sounds like a great border town with plenty of shopping and mexican food and other things to do. We will be spending 1.5 days there. My only real concern is safety. I have continued to read about all of the gang problems in Nuevo Laredo but I do not know much about Acuna. Can anyone tell me anything with regards to safety or crime? Any suggestions on what to do? Any comments and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
family[3 yr old, 14, and couple] going to Acuna for 1 or 2 nights.
hotel san antonio? patio cafe w/ good food, cold beer? parking in US? activities aside from eating and drinking? we would love to stay out at night w/ kids and cocktails. we want to be safe, but not too close to Texas Tech students vomiting on the bar. is there a cool patio and a safe hotel? or should we sleep in the states and make it a day trip? we will be there nov 22 or so.
thanks in advance
My wife and I are heading to the Davis Mountains this month and I was planning to stop in Acuna on the way. I intended to stay in Acuna for the convenience - probably the San Antonio - but my wife is worried due to gang activity on the border. I looked all over the internet and found one newspaper article about a murder/shootout back in May or June that was drug related but it wasn't anywhere near the tourist areas. If that is the worst crime they have Acuna is a lot safer than San Antonio, TX. I also found some recent postings that the locals were a little irritated with the recent immigration laws and werent quite as friendly as usual. I figure if we don't act obnoxious everything will be fine and we will have a great time. Anyone been down there recently and if so what are things like?
I was recently in Piedras Negras for a day of shopping, eating and drinking. I came home quite disappointed. The Zaragoza Mercado was horrible. Very few true Mexican crafts and a lot of t-shirts. Plus it was empty of customers. For quite a
while it appeared as if me and the 3 other people I was with were the only people
there. On top of all that, the prices were outrageous and the vendors didn't seem
at all receptive to bargaining. Several of the vendors also came across as rude.
Almost as if they didn't want our business. Very much unlike my past experiences
in Nuevo Laredo and Nuevo Progresso.
Went across the street to the Moderno for a couple of beers and a plate of nachos. It
is very nice, but the lack of windows makes it feel a bit dungeon like. Went further into
town to eat at the El Rancho Steakhouse. Not bad, but definitely not great. I wish
I would have stayed at Moderno.
Lastly, it was Dies y Seis and there was really nothing going on. At least not in the
Mercado or the plaza that is down the street from the Mercado.
I can't help but feel that I totally missed the boat. Are there any other places in
Piedras Negras to shop that would have provided a larger and better variety of items?
If so where?
At this point, I would never consider going back to Piedras Negras, nor would I
Should I have gone to Acuna instead?????
PS. The Kickapoo Casino just outside of Eagle Pass is fairly lame. Hold'em poker
and slots only. No other table games of any type.
What are the shopping opportunities like there?
Does anyone happen to know Dra Miladys Marsan Ramirez plastic surgeon in Santo Domingo? I am planning to take a trip this year for a procedure. Any info will be helpful.
We are planning to travel to Acuna Mexico and then on to Progreso Mexico this weekend. We heard from an acquaintance that gangs are bad in Acuna and that one of their friends was robbed at gunpoint and they jacked her car. Has anyone visited lately? We are going to doctor/dental visits.
I will be going to Saltillo on Jan. 14 for a week. What are some good hikes, historical things to do?
Anybody who has been, please tell me all about it. I have never been out of the U.S and need all the tips, hints, and travel info I can get. Going this summer to Acuna!
