    • UPCOMING NORWAY ITINERARY QUERY

      Norway Jul 8, 2016 at 2:30 AM

      Hi There,

I (31yrs) and my wife (30yrs) , along with my Parents (60yrs) (Total 4 people) are planning to visit norway for our vacation next week.(Starting July 15th 2016)

We all love to travel. We would love to see norway with different means of transport to get around & see...like Air , Road , Ferry & rail. We are not much into hiking & camping but do enjoy places of interest on our way. We are vegetarians and would be preferring to Rent apartments wherever we go, considering there might not be enough options for us eating outside. Also we are comfortable cooking quick meals & pack them for our On the go tours.

After going through few itineraries and Search I have put down the following plan. Would really appreciate if anybody can let ms know if the plan is smooth & workable. Any suggestions are welcome.

      15th July : 3: 30 AM : New Delhi to Oslo (12 noon , 15th july) (14hrs including stopover)

      overnight stay in oslo.

16th : Oslo to Svolvaer By Air. (we may have to do this via bodo OR oslo to bodo by air & bodo to svolvaer by ferry). Renting a Car in svolvaer . (expensive?) Overnight in Svolvaer or Kabelvag.

17th : Driving on E10 , exploring Lofoten on the way to Reine . Overnight in Reine. (Robuer Stay).

18th : Morning : Moskenes to Bodo Ferry. And then we have to go from BODO to ANDALSNES.

For this which option should we do :

      A. Bodo to Andalsnes via Trondheim , Dombas BY RAIL (We may do overnight train to reach next morning) OR

      B. Bodo to Trondheim By Air and Trondheim to Andalsnes via Dombas By Rail?

19th : Renting a Car in Andalsnes to reach Geiranger via trollstigen.

19th : We will have Car to drive around . Also we can do Geiranger cruise that day. Overnight stay on Geirangerfjord area. (any recommendations?)

20th : Driving around Geiranger. Stay in Geiranger.

21st : Driving to Alesund & dropping Car.

Alesund to Bergen By Air. Overnight stay in bergen.

22nd : Bergen sighseeing for a day. Overnight stay in bergen.

23rd : Bergen To Flam (Norway in nutshell). Overnight stay in Flam.

24th : Flam to Oslo : overnight in Oslo.

      25th : Oslo sightseeing.

26th ; Morning Flight Back to Delhi.

We would welcome any suggestions if we are cramping too much or overstaying any place which can be changed. I know its last minute & we have lot of bookings to do in term of transportation & accommodation.

      Thanks

      Ashish

      Oslo Airport transport

      Oslo Jul 6, 2016 at 4:18 AM

      Hello,

I have FI317 08:25 flight from Oslo to Reykjavik. If I take the 22:59 train from Bergen and arrive at 06:25 at Oslo, can I go to the airport to take my flight on time? Flytoget Airport Express Train takes 22 minutes from Oslo S to the airport, the website says.

      Best wishes,

    • Norway in a Nutshell - Doing on my own Advice please as left too late !! Thanks

      Norway Jun 27, 2016 at 1:40 AM

      Hi there,

So Im going to Oslo next week and it has become apparent I have left to too late to book the Norway in a Nutshell tour to do in one day from Oslo! It all hinges on the Myrdal to Flam train being booked out at the time to do it all in one day.

So I've started to look at it independantly and all seems quite simple but I do have a couple of questions if anyone can help?

      - It looks like I can do this over 2 days but would mean a night in Flam or Voss. Voss it probably going to be easiest so can get the earliest train back to Oslo. Does anyone have any thoughts on Voss or whether should make an effort to stay in Flam. If we stay in Flam we could get there mid afternoon. Can you do any short hikes easily from the centre of town?

      - i have found the cruise website and they seem to offer quite a few ferries from Flam to Gudvangen. I have read I should get on a tourist ferry for views. They seem to operate a new ship which is set up for tourists but all sold out. i am looking at one of the standard ships. Do you know if they all offer outdoor viewing areas?

      - Finally, the only element I cannot book is the bus from Gudvangen to Voss. Do these run in time with ferry arrivals. Also, it is very unlikely but may time the ferry to take train back to Oslo. How long after arrival in Gudvangen should i allow bus to Voss to then take train to Oslo.

I think it is most likely we will try and go from Oslo to Voss via Myrdal, Flam and Gudvangen in one day and take early train to Oslo so at least get one final afternoon in Oslo.

All the above means we get one long and short afternoon in Oslo. the final question is the expense doing this trip and shortened time in Oslo worth doing? I think it is but my mate is not sure!

      Thanks for any advice

      Rich

      Flåm to Bergan?

      Norway Jul 9, 2016 at 1:14 PM

      Hi,
I am trying to plan Norway in a Nutshell for two. I have planned from Oslo to Flåm. I am now trying to get reservations for boat from Flåm to Gudvangen. The one I was searching for included Nærøyfjord in Sognefjord. It then connects with a bus from Gudvangen to Voss. Then train from Voss to Bergan.
The next leg is coastal steamer Bergan to Kristiansund.
Can anyone help me with these plans and reservations. I seem to be stuck.

    • Oslo and day trips

      Norway Jun 30, 2016 at 2:57 PM

I can book a flight to Oslo in early september for 6 full days. I mostly like nature and want to see beautiful views, but also interested to get to know Oslo. how much time should I stay in Oslo in your opinion? Should I book "Norway in a nutshell" trip? The flight back will be from Oslo too so I can book a round trip but which one? It seems as if it's a lot of rides for 2 day trips but they're going from one place to another and don't have time to stay and visit the cities.... So is it worth it? Or maybe should I book an airbnb for 6 nights in Oslo and take day trips on my own... will it be cheaper?

I will also be in Trondheim for a week in November to visit a friend of mine and she'll take me to some nice places to see but it will be in the winter so it's probably better if I see some of this beauty in September. But again, I don't want to feel as if I missed getting to know Oslo. I may take a longer trip to Norway next summer for 3 weeks and then I have more time for everything. The question is what to do in this 6.5 days.... Thanks for any help! :)

    • Safe to wait in Drammen Bamgelokka?

by Kerstinche Online Now Sep 16, 2008 at 10:10 PM

      Hello everyone,

I´m planning to go to Geilo in Norway on Friday, leaving from Oslo Torp (with Raynair). Therefore I need to take a bus either from Drammen or from Oslo. Since Oslo might be a little tight (five minutes between ariival with torpexpressen and departure of the bus to Geilo) I was thinking to change busses in Drammen. Unfortunetly I have to wait in Drammen form 5.45p.m. to 7.15pm and since I´m a girl I´m kind of scared. Is there a restaurant somewhere close by or are my worries without reason?

      Thanks in advance

    • How to get from Drammen Train Station to Bangeløkka Drammen for Torp Bus

by Sherrys Online Now Dec 30, 2007 at 1:35 PM

      Hi Folks,

I plan to arrive in Drammen Train station from Finse at 16:55 on Sunday. I hope to catch the TorpExpressen Bus from Oslo on its way to Torp in time for the Ryanair 20:25 flight.

Does anyone know if I can walk to Bangeløkka or can I easliy get a bus or taxi from Drammen train station at this time on Sunday? I reckon the most time I would have is 30-45 minutes. Also if a taxi is required what should I expect to pay?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    • Where does the TorpExpressen stop in Drammen?

by Kerso1 Online Now Oct 10, 2007 at 3:36 AM

      Hi everyone
My husband lives across in Tranby and when I go to visit him, I usually get on the Torp Expressen and get off at Drammen at the Shell Garage on Kjellstad. Going home, I get on at the Statoil Garage on Kjellstad.

However, I have noticed that the Torp Expressen bus stop has changed for this service.. Seems to be at a place called Bangelokka (sorry about the spelling - my keyboard cannot type the letter properly)

Can anyone tell me where this stop is, so that I can get my husband to pick me up at the right place.. He doesn't know where it is and when I do an internet search, it brings nothing up (probably because i'm not typing the work correctly).

      Many thanks

    • Bus service from Torp to Drammen

by Kerso1 Online Now Mar 27, 2007 at 4:50 AM

Thanks very much for everyone's help. Particularly Sorhus.. Just so that you know, my fiance has now moved into a flat in Tranby and is liking life in Norway.

I'm going out to visit on 6th April (Good Friday) and returning on Monday 9th April (Easter Monday).

Does anyone know if the buses will be running on these days. I believe that both Friday and Monday are national holidays.

I was planning to get a bus from Torp to Drammen and then my fiance will meet me there. As far as getting back to the airport, I can get a bus or taxi from Tranby to Drammen, but I need to know if I can get a bus from Drammen to Torp airport, to get me home for a 15:20 flight back to Scotland. I'll need to be at the airport for about 1:20pm

Can anyone give me any information??

    • Flats for rent

by Kerso1 Online Now Feb 26, 2007 at 6:24 AM

      Hi there

I have already posted a thread on the Oslo page to get information about accommodation in Drammen or nearby. My fellow V.T ers have been very helpful, so thank you.

Moving on from this, I wondered if anyone could give me any information about who to contact to rent a flat in Drammen/Asker/Lier, along with an indication of how much the rent would be on a 1 bedroom flat. My fiance is due to move across to start work in Tranby on 18th March and needs something as soon as possible, not too far from Tranby.

Maybe a 1 bedroom flat or a guest house initially, until he can find something to rent. This would likely be a long term let, for at least 1 year.

I do not know where to start looking and cannot find anything on the internet in English.

Can anyone out there help me?

      Thanks

Hi all I have just returned from three weeks in Drammen, and wow! I love the place. OK it's possibly not thought as the most beautiful place in Norway but when you walk up through the mist to the top of the hills it equalls anywhere else I have ever seen. The people are amazing, the most helpful friendly kind group I have met. I was quite upset when I had to come home, but in only two weeks I will be back in Norway to start my new life. Thanks to everyone that replied to my first post.
