Hello and a Happy 2015 to all!
I was wondering if during middle February in Punta Del Este there is a rainy season, as there is in Rio de Janeiro, where most days have rain and clouds, or can have ?
We are four adults in our 30's & 40's, traveling to PDE from San Francisco (via Buenos Aires). Looking for a cool place to celebrate New Year's Eve. Staying in the Peninsula area of PDE. We are laid back, well-traveled and like to have fun around good food and strong drinks. Any advice on where to go? We would much prefer to have an actual plan for the night. Any guidance helps, thanks!!
is this safe to do on your own?
thinking of getting a cab
Can't seem to find if this is open year round, the website only seems to be in spanish--we might spend a month or so in south america during the USA summer months, but I know its dead winter in PDE. I see its a hotel, so perhaps the museum is open as well.
Is the Las Cumbres restaurant open in May?
my partner and I arrive in PDE on the 28th December (YAY!), staying in Playa Brava, and have a few questions regarding 'what shall we do for NYE.'
Do you need tickets to get into various venues?
Can we just turn up to beach parties?
Is it best to buy tickets to venues/parties before the 31st?
If we should buy tickets, is it easy as walking along the street to find vendors?
And, what/where do you reccommend for a 30-36yr old couple who speak little Espanol (apologies), like dancing, like to meet great people to do for NYE????
Many thanks in advance for taking the time to answer our questions, maybe we can buy you a beer! :-)
I have just checked the Buquebus website for tickets to Punta from Buenos Aires for me and my wife and it shows we need a boat and bus. We are only going for two nights.
The website gives a price1926 but I am sure this is a mistake and is supposed to be Argetinian Pesos. Is this correct?
However as we are from England and convert this to pounds from Pesos the total cost comes to £260.00 for both of us!!!
£260.00 for return tickets is quite expensive in my opinion - does anyone know if this is the correct price and if there is a cheaper alternative?
Please reply urgently.
Thanks for all your help in advance!!!
I am traveling with 4-6 friends to punta and staying in LaBarra. We would like to have transportation to go sightseeing and go out in the evenings, but we do not want to drink and drive. Does anyone know of a driver with a car that we may be able to hire for the week that we are there? They do not need to be a professional company,We will be in LaBarra January 12-19 any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I am looking to rent a passenger van in Puenta Del Este from January 1st 2012 to the 4th. Does anyone know of a van rental company.
I'm thinking of going to punta del este next Jan for 2-3 months. I just retired. I would like to get an apartment for that time. I'm in Barcelona now and rented a place through HomeAway.I'm not a person who lies out on the beach. Just trying to beat the cold weather on my island of Martha's Vineyard.
If you have any ideas about this or any other places similar then thanks for the info. John
I had read that American money is well accepted and brings a better return. What size bills would you recommend? Is this also the case in Colonia, Montevideo, and Buenos Aires? Thanks for your help.
Is this a stop worth making?

i wonder if i must buy the ticket in any company balcon in airport ( if it is there ) or
is just wait for the bus without ticket and pay later ?

I'm traveling to Punta del Este for New Year's with 2 other girls and 2 guys between the ages of 25 and 32. Any suggestions on places to go on New Year's Eve? We're rolling with some pretty big baller's and want an upscale, classy night. Suggestions?
Can anyone recommend a company for renting motorbikes / scooters? Avis, Hertz, and Dollar do not have them. I have yet to check with Europcar and Thrifty but it is unlikely. I contacted a company called Renting Uruguay and their prices were110 per day, which seems three times too high. They claimed that without a reservation and prepayment nothing will be left on December 16.
I'm planning to go with me and 5 other friends (all aged 20-21) PdE for new year's for about one week.
I wanted to know where would be the best location for us to stay.
We're interested in Nightclubs, Beaches and Casino, so I was thinking maybe somewhere near Conrad? Please send in suggestions! Hotel recomendations are welcome too, but what I really want to know is the ideal location.
Traveling to Punta with another couple the last 2 weeks in January. Would appreciate help with a hotel recommendation:
1) Looking for a 4 / 5 star hotel that is on the beach (or extremely close)
2) Ideally hotel would also be in an area with nightlife and restaurants
3) Ideally hotel would also have a nice pool
With my research to date I have only found the Conrad and Mantra as options and it appears the Conrad is sold out when we will be in town and Mantra may be a bit quieter and further removed from city center than desired.
Any recommendations . . . willing to pay up to500 USD a night.
While staying in Buenos Aires this summer, I will have a choice of a 4-day trip to Punta del Este out of three weekends: November 28, December 19, or January 16. How do they compare in terms of weather, nightlife, and hotel availability?
Expedia offers round-trip flights from Buenos Aires for US$300. Can I get a better price through a South American travel agency?
Does anyone know a website with a listing or review of La Barra hotels?
We are looking for a driver/guide for a 1/2 day tour of Punta del Este and the surrounding area. We will be either two people or a group of 6-8. If you can recommend one, please help.
Thanks in advance,
Bob & Patty
we have two hotels we're trying to decide between - hotel montoya (not the esturion) and villa de mar. we can't find any feedback about these two hotels. we know both are in la barra. we're just wondering if anyone has stayed there or know of either place.
I need information about transportation from Buenos Aires to Punte del Este, then from Punte del Este to Salto, and then on to Mendoza. Can you help me?
I will be in Punta Del Este with friends the second week of January. We will be there Monday through Friday. We are 4 guys around 30 years old. We will be staying in La Barra. We are looking for nightlife recommendations for each night, and for daytime party/beach club recommendations for each day, which places are the best hotspots for each day/night of the week? Even some great restaurant recommedations would be helpful too. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!
I will be in Punta Del Este with friends the second week of January. We are renting a villa and we are looking for a VIP nightlife host that can recommend the best hotspots for each night and arrange VIP table reservations and entry to clubs. My sister and I are looking to spend 3 nights over the Christmas holiday in Punta del Este but aren't finding any available hotels online. We'd like to stay the 23rd - 26th of Dec. Does anyone have ideas on a way to find available rooms?
My friend and I (two girls) are planning to go for a vacation in Punta del Este from Dec 19th to Dec 28th and are looking for accommodations for this time period.
We are looking to either rent a room with private bathroom or a small apartment if not too expensive. If anyone has any recommendations we would appreciate your help!
Thanks a lot!!!!
My name is Clark. A group of friends and myself were looking for a trip to that region over New Year's. The trip would be an eight day spread. We are two couples and two single males with our ages ranging from 24 to 28. Our main drive is the Paul van Dyk concert in Buenos Aires on New Year's Eve night at Club Hipico. I am aware that Buenos Aires is not the place we want to stay for nights out on the town, and beaches. I was directed toward Punta del Este for that environment, but I still have questions. Is Punta del Este where we might enjoy ourselves finding beach parties, clubs on the beach, good food, and moderate activities to occupy an eight day stay? My main focus is to accomodate the two single males, as the couples will have an easier time settling in. Is the single nightlife something worth looking at as well?
I appreciate any responses.
My name is Robert and I will be traveling to Punte del Este in September and will be staying a week. This is my first trip to South America. I do not speak Spanish. I would like to have a tour guide for one or two days to get me through any language problems and take me around the area. I am renting an auto. The tour guide does not necessarily have to be a professional, anyone with a mastery of Spanish/English will do.
If you know of someone who would be interested, please forward their phone number and/or e-mail address.
Mi nombre es Roberto y viajaré a Punte del Este en septiembre y permaneceré una semana. Éste es mi primer viaje a América del sur. No hablo español.
