      LUX to Chaumont

      Chaumont Sep 15, 2016 at 1:04 PM

I need to get from LUX to Chaumont, France on Oct. 3. I'm flying from the US to LUX to avoid going thru CDG, however it looks like all rail service goes thru Paris anyway, even from Metz. Is there a bus service alternative, or how much would a car service charge? I work for a non-profit so car rental is not an option. My wife and I flew into CDG last Nov. arriving moments before the stadium bombing, and our hotel was less then 2km from the Bataclan so I'm doing my best to avoid Paris to keep her mind at ease.

    • Late night train from Chartres to Paris

      Chartres Apr 25, 2016 at 9:52 AM

Staying in Paris in June and wish to spend a full day in Chartres, including the "Lumiere en Chartres" illuminations; then return to Paris that same night. Unfortunately the last SCNF train from Chartres to Paris is at 21:34, which won't allow us to see the Lumiere show, since sunset in Chartres is around 21:55. Don't want to take organized group tour from Paris, nor rent a car, nor leave next morning around 5 am from Chartres. Tried SCNF bus and RER train combinations through Versailles - nothing. Any better suggestions?

Europcar dependability/Saint Pierre des Corps TGV Station

      Tours Dec 12, 2014 at 4:47 PM

Has anyone had experience renting an automatic transmission car from Europcar at the TGV station in Saint Pierre des Corps? Avis says "sold out," Hertz says "can't book on line--call" (not encouraging), and Europcar offers exactly what I want. Are they trustworthy? Sixt did this to me once (said "yes," had zip). I will not use them again. I know automatics are hard to find in France outside of airport locations, but If Europcar says they will provide one, what are my chances? Many thanks in advance to the many always-helpful VT members. --Spencer

    • bike on train Orleans - Nevers

      Orléans Jun 22, 2014 at 1:14 PM

We want to travel by bike from Saumur to Nevers, along the river Loire.
After having arrived in Nevers, we want to put our bikes on the train and return to Saumur.
Between Orleans and Saumur is a train-accommodation for bikes, but we cannot find that possibility between Nevers and Orleans.
On internet we see some trainconnections between Nevers and Orleans.

Question: can we put our bikes on the train there and and travel in a fast way along the river by train.
Or do we have to change more times the train.

      Thanks in advance,
      Peter Smit (Netherlands)

    • Accommodation in tours or nearby

      Tours Jun 3, 2014 at 9:27 AM

my daughter and I are going visit tours 19th 0 26th June.
We urgently require somewhere to stay as place we had booked looks TOTALLY unsuitable on google map - ie 1.5km from centre but down an unlit road with no public transport.

I am partially disabled though only 54 so we would like a place that we feel safe in even if near Tours but with access to transportation or reasonable Taxi fare would prefer SC in a small flat etc but would consider anything at the moment.
We have never been to France before except of course Paris so we are unsure of what to do.

any information - help - would be appreciated

      Thank you

Does anyone know a way of contacting a free lance driver and van to take us around our designated route? We don't need a guide or anything. This is party of six who is not too keen on driving. The tour companies are total rip-offs.What we need is a friendly amateur who'd like to make a little money. Suggestions?
