    • Traveling with baby for 1 month in Scotland. Help please!

      Scotland Dec 31, 2016 at 10:14 AM

      Hi there,

My husband and I are planning a trip to Scotland in the month of June. As we will be traveling with our baby daughter, we're hoping to find an area to base ourselves for the month (or split our time between two home bases; a couple of weeks in each place). We will be renting a car from Glasgow and returning to Glasgow at the end of the month. We would like to see the Highlands (possibly the Isle of Skye) and castles. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

    • Clothing shop

      Callander Jul 22, 2015 at 1:55 AM

My family and I was holidaying in Callander recently and my daughter found a Barbour jacket at a clothing shop on the main street, the sleeves were a little short, but as we live near the Barbour factory we have asked them if they can make one specially. However they need the design ticket number. So I need to contact the shop. It was quite a large shop in the main street. Can anyone help?

I'm studying abroad from mid June to mid July in Stirling (I'm from the US) and I've heard it rains a lot in the UK, so I was wondering if it really would be worth investing in rain boots that are also comfortable walking boots for my trip? I'm just worried about packing them because they tend to be heavy and I'd have to buy a new good pair.

    • Selkirk to Stirling

      Stirling Sep 2, 2013 at 9:16 AM

My husband and I (we're from U.S.) will be visiting Selkirk in the Borders in June 2014 for a few days. We want to go from Selkirk to Stirling on Sat, June 28. We need to be in Stirling by 10:00 a.m. for Bannockburn event. We hope to avoid renting a car. What are our options for transportation and about how long does it take to get to Stirling? We'll be in Stirling for a couple of days and then go on to Edinburgh.

    • using phones in Scotland

      Central Sep 29, 2010 at 10:40 PM

We will be visiting from US in mid-Oct. I am still checking into international telephone data plans, but in meantime I have read something about buying prepaid phones when we get there for calls within country and to each other when we get separated. Anybody have experience with that?
My son added a data package to his iphone and took it to Paris, but the screens on our phones are so small that initiating GPS and internet package could be pretty useless.
Also what is cell service like when as you get further north from Edinburgh?

What to see on a short break

      Stirling Oct 29, 2009 at 1:17 PM

I'm off to Stirling for a couple of days in December and I'll be checking out Stirling castle, the Wallace monument and going up to Callander.
What else should I not miss. I've looked at a lot of internet sites so don't need pointing in that direction.
I'd like someone from the region or who knows the region well to make some suggestions. There seems so much and I have so little time.

      Stirling Mar 26, 2008 at 12:53 AM

      Hi all,

I am considering going from Edinburgh to Stirling in the first week of April and am getting a Rail fare of GBP6.50 and a Bus fare of GBP5.40

As the prices are almost the same, I was wondering which route would be more scenic. The time of travel would be early morning like 9am or so.

      Left luggage in Falkirk

      Falkirk Jul 29, 2007 at 11:58 PM

Further to my earlier question about stopping off to see the Falkirk Wheel when travelling between Stirling and Edinburgh. I've just realised we will have a heavy bag with us!!!
Is there anywhere we can leave it while we are visiting the wheel? I've checked the train stations and none of them seem to have left luggage facilities. :(

      Central May 11, 2007 at 6:27 PM

I'm planning a trip to Scotland next June. I will be getting into Stirling by train and going from there into the Trossachs. It seems I need to get a bus. I am so far not finding a good map showing the relative locations of the train and bus stations or how long it takes to get from one to the other.

Also, one suggestion has been taking the Trossach Trundler. Does this run out of the 'normal' bus station, or from a separate location, and if so, where?

      Thank you.

    • Bus to Falkirk Wheel and Callender House

      Falkirk Sep 7, 2006 at 6:11 AM

I'm making a day trip by train to Falkirk arriving at Grahamston Station and leaving from High Street Station. I'd like to take a bus to the Falkirk Wheel and, if I have time, see the Callender House. I wouldn't mind walking to the latter from the center of town if that's possible. Can anyone tell me if there are buses to these sites? Thank you very much.

      Shopping in Stirling

      Stirling Sep 3, 2004 at 5:17 AM

I have planned a holiday in Scotland [ next year ] and have chosen Stirling as a home base. I will be arranging my accomodation with a travel agency [b&b's] but would like some local knowledge on day tours. For example to the Highlands etc. Are there any day trips from Stirling and will it be possible to book when I get there or should I make the arrangements before I leave Australia. Also I saw on the net about a shop in a village somewhere outside Stirling where you could buy hand made woollen clothing. Does this place exist or was I just dreaming about it! I intend to buy some nice woollen garments in Scotland and was wondering about how much I'd pay for say a jumper or scarf etc. from a department store. Thanks in advance. Cheers....................Louise

      Boat tours in southeast Scotland

      Stirling Jul 11, 2003 at 9:59 AM

We'll be bringing our high school handbell choir - a group of 30 - to the Edinburgh area in 2004. Right now we're trying to plan a few days of touring. So far we have a half day in the borders (Jedburgh and Floors Castle), a day and a half in Edinburgh (Castle, Royal Mile, Princes Street, Holyrood), and a day in Stirling. We are wondering if there are any suggestions as to what is nice for a day of touring on a boat. How about it?!
