    • Baggage storage in Paris

      Paris Dec 3, 2016 at 10:04 PM

      Hi guys,
I am heading to Paris in January. On my last day I do not need to be at the airport until about 5 o'clock to catch my plane to Sydney. I obviously want to make the most of this as a sight-seeing day(possibly Disnayland) but will have my luggage with me. Does anybody know of any storage lockers or something I would be able to take my big bag to? Does the airport have lockers for rent? Or does Disneyland have big storage cubes? Or would some hotels offer baggage holding even when you have checked out?
      Thanks

    • Solo woman traveling in Paris on New Years Eve

      Paris Nov 28, 2016 at 10:57 AM

I am a 54 year old woman who will be arriving in Paris Orly airport on Thursday, December 29 at 5 pm,
and flying out of DeGalle airport on Sunday, January 1 at 11 am.

      My questions...

      1. What area in Paris should I stay in?
Since I really only have two days I would like a great location to walk to things in the area and as a base for sightseeing. I would be so grateful for decent, hotel and restaurant suggestions in that area?

      2. What is the best/easiest way to get from Orly to "that area" at that time of day?

      3. Are there any good one day tours?
I would probably book that for Friday or Saturday, and spend the other day on my own exploring the area around my hotel.

      4. What is there to do on New Years Eve? I don't drink but would love to know what would be safe for me to do alone that night.

      Thank you very much!

Can anyone suggest a day-trip from Paris?

      Paris Nov 11, 2016 at 7:32 AM

I will be visiting Paris in a few weeks. I have been to Paris numerous times and know it very well. Equally, I have taken many day-trips from Paris and have been to all the obvious places (and even beyond). Can anyone suggest a new place I might visit? I am looking for a place within a two hour radius by train.

I like quaint places, and/or places that has a old worldly feel to them. I enjoy visiting places with a riverside setting as well e.g. Moret-sur-Loing.

Here is a short list of day-trips I have taken:

Amiens, Auxerre, Beauvais, Bourges, Châlons-en-Champagne, Chantilly, Chartres, Compiègne, Dijon, Fontainebleau, Giverny, Moret-sur-Loing, Orléans, Provins, Reims, Rouen, Senlis, Sens, Tours, Troyes, Versailles.

I have not listed other places I have visisted that are further a way e.g. Caen, Lyon, Metz, Nancy, Nantes, Rennes etc.

At the moment I am thinking of visiting Meaux (because there is a cathedral in Meaux), but I would like to have a few other places on my list. I thought of trying to get to Avallon and/or Loches, but it appears there aren't any direct (or very few direct) trains to Avallon or Loches.

      Many thanks

Is there any group who is going to Taizé from 15.05 until 22.05.2016? For me it would perfect if you or your group is from Bonn/ Cologne or any other country near by. But also if you life a little more far away, i would be thankful if you write. Unfortunately it's not as easy as in holidays to find a group ;)

I would be very happy, if anybody answers me ;)

Wine tour and tasting in Beaune

      Beaune May 30, 2015 at 5:41 PM

It appears Beaune has no scarcity in producers offering wine tours and tasting. There is Louis Jadot, Joseph Drouhin, Bouchard, Patriarche and then also Marche aux Vins, to name a few. They all offer tours from about €11-€38, tasting 4-13 wines varying from village to grand cru in quality. Some are by appointment only, others are walk-in.
I know Gwened tips Jadot, Bouchard and Patriarche.
If I had to choose one, which would give me the best opportunity to savor a cross-section of Burgundy wines (both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, village to grand cru) in the most delightful setting?
Does anyone have any experience of a matching wine degustation menu within a cellar?
Thanks in advance for the feedback!

      Getting to Flavigny

      Flavigny-sur-Ozerain Feb 19, 2015 at 3:39 PM

Hello there! My son and I will be in France soon and we would like to go to flavigny. We can get to Dijon from Paris by train and from there, go to Flavigny. I was looking for tours(we love tours...more than exploring on our own) and found a half day from Dijon to Flavigny(and other villages around it) by FRANCE.COM. Never heard about "France.com" tours and was wondering if anyone knows about them...or any other tour company(tours to Flavigny and surroundings). The other option is to rent a car...we go to France very often, but never did rent a car. I am not that carefree and always super afraid of getting lost, road condition, traffic, crazy drivers, how to find a gas station, etc. If anyone knows about roads and how simple is to drive(probably it is) from Dijon to Flavigny, please let me know. Thanks!!!!

      Combining wine tasting with accommodation

      Beaune Feb 8, 2015 at 8:46 PM

Was wondering if anyone has good tips on vineyard hotels in or near Beaune? We only have one overnight there and would like to maximize our wine tasting opportunities. Would it be better to stay in a cozy hotel in Beaune and go for a town-based wine-tasting (perhaps paired with dinner) or would it be best to stay at a vineyard and experience the wine there?
Any recommendations would be highly appreciated! Thanks.

      Barging in Burgundy

      Bourgogne Jan 31, 2015 at 7:48 AM

      Dear Friends,

I hope you are all doing well! I have a question regarding barging in Burgundy. I am planning to spend a week or two this summer barging with wife and baby along with 2 sets of grandparents. I am reasonably early in the process, but have had some advice which suggests starting at Joigny and self piloting (grandparent is an experienced boater) a penichette boat.
      Current options might be:

      1. Joigny round trip. Yonne and Canal Nivernais?
      2. Joigny to Montbard via Canal du Bourgogne

I wonder if people have any advice on this idea. Is Joigny a good place to start? Are these Canals nice? with good spots to stop off and enjoy a stroll, food, sites?

Any other suggestions? As it's summer I'd like to avoid the most trafficked spots (I think Canal du Midi)

Is there anything else I should know? Or any good resources or companies?

Many thanks! It's nice to be around again...

      Best Wishes,

      Giampiero

      Taizé Dec 25, 2014 at 7:03 AM

      Hello,

I am currently thinking of going to Taize for 2 weeks by myself. However, I wonder the following:
      1. Is it a good idea to Taize by yourself? (i.e. not in a group?) Is it to join other people in workshops, talks, meetings?
      2. Is it possible to during 28/12/2014 to 11/01/2015? On the online registration page, it says there are meetings all year, except from 25/12 until 06/01. What does this mean? Is Taize closed then?

      Thank you very much!!!!!
And Merry Christmas to you all!

      Vineyard accommodation

      Bourgogne Nov 30, 2014 at 10:59 PM

Despite researching the subject, both on VT and the web, I'm struggling to get a clear picture of accommodation at a vineyard in Bourgogne. I'll only be there overnight, so I'd prefer to combine my accommodation and wine tasting. Preferably something close enough to Beaune to go wandering around the illuminated buildings in the evening, but will be perfectly happy staying at a scenic nearby village such as Meursalt or Pommard, or even north of Beaune.
Anyone with wonderful experiences at such a place?
Advice would be highly appreciated! Thanks.
