    • Corsica in winter

      Nice Dec 22, 2016 at 12:42 PM

Has anyone taken the ferry from Nice to Corsica? I have a few questions.
Are restaurants, shops in geneal and points of interest open?
What is the livliest city to visit in January or February?
Does one need a car to get around?
      Thank you,

    • Provence France1 week extra

      Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur 7 hours ago

I will be ending a tour of southern France on a Thursday - end of Sept 2017. The tour will include: Pont du Gard, Arles, Les Baux, and Nice. I will have 7 days (following Thursday night) to get back to Paris for return flight.
What would be a good trip? I have not seen Monaco, Antibes, Cannes, Marseilles, Aix en Provence, Vaison la Romaine. I would not mind going to Orange again. Prefer TGV rail over driving, but could rent a car for short trips.

    • Summer holiday

      France Jan 11, 2017 at 3:11 AM

Sorry to hear this site is shutting down.

I had an incredible summer honeymoon in Switzerland thanks entirely to commenters on this forum. I'm really grateful.

This question is very broad but I thought I might get lucky again!

Hoping for a may/June family holiday this year.
Traveling with a three year old and a one year old.
Beach, hotel, pools, nature, good food, a nice little town nearby.
We really want it to be child friendly with food and drink readily available but not too big a complex.
Also considering Italy and Greece, I'll post over there too.

Many thanks if you have any thoughts!

      Paris with kids

      Paris Jan 13, 2017 at 6:23 AM

      Hello Paris experts ;-)

We'll be attending the U2 show in Paris on July 25 and want to add a couple of extra days in and around the city.
I don't yet know where we'll be staying.

Our boys - who will be 9 and 11 by then - will be joining us. In fact it was their idea go along to a show and then our oldest one decided he wanted to see the Eiffeltower ... And what's a mum to do then but to buy tickets for the Stade de France then ... anything to keep the young ones happy (and now I can 'blame' them for the trip ;-) ).

We'll likely arrive there around noon on friday 21st and leave for home again on wednesday 26th.

Do any of you have a suggestion as on what kids might enjoy doing. The Eiffeltower is a must. Besides that: they don't mind a museum (as long as it doesn't take an entire day), they like history and they're not fussy about walking.
I've read something about the sewers tour ... do you think that's worth doing with kids?

As always: thanks for your input!

      Carcassonne Jan 11, 2017 at 6:22 PM

We will be spending a few days in Carcassonne in May-June and have things pretty well sorted out. However, it would be nice to hear from you if you have any suggestions for things we should not miss. Also, restaurant recommendations would be welcome for Carcassonne, Narbonne, Beziers and/or Collioure.

Thanks - this could well be my last question before VT gets the deep six.

We are staying in Bayeux from Saturday 4th June to 11th June before relocating to Caen for two nights to take part in the Pegasus Half marathon . We are taking cycles and wondering if there are good cycle routes nearby in Bayeux or further a field that we could maybe drive to with the Cycles , for a days or half day cycling . No more than 35 miles , saving our legs for the running! Also have looked at the lefalet on the D day festival events , any recommendations as to which ones to try to get to?

We are travelling to France on 4th June to the 13th June , primarily to take part in the Pegasus half marathon on the 12th June , so already have booked our two nights in Caen on the 11th and 12th . We don`t know the region at all and wondering where to head to when we arrive by ferry at Caen for the start of our holiday . We have thought about Bayeux if this would be a good location to base ourselves or should we head further south maybe towards Mont st Michael for a few days .We plan to take in some of the D day sites , but would like to mix it up with maybe a cycle tour , walks , may be a flea market , happy to stay somwhere more rural or aTown .

We will be arriving into Honfleur via Azamara Cruise Line on 9 Jun 16. We arrive at 0800 and depart at 2100. We are interested in touring the Normandy Beach area, ie, sites, cemetaries, and museums. The tours that we were able to find are rather expensive. Can anyone refer us to a more reasonably priced tour or a rental car company at or near the cruise port terminal for a day rate. Thank you.

      Where to stay en route?

      Bayeux Jan 22, 2016 at 12:50 PM

We plan to re-visit the northern coast of Normandy after Easter and for “very” old times sake have chosen the Portsmouth - Le Havre crossing. Many of our favourite hotels in the area seem to have disappeared.

We have booked a couple of nights in a Logis de France near Fecamp but are having difficulty in choosing somewhere NOT on the coast, to stay for TWO nights between there and Bayeux. ( not in Bayeux).

We need to reach Bayeux by 3pm at the latest. All suggestions welcome . Hoping for a place, small town , with some historical interest - ancient and modern- and a good family run Logis style hotel with a good restaurant.

    • Bus to Honfleur from Le Havre

      Honfleur Jun 14, 2015 at 2:39 PM

I will be stopping in Le Havre for the day while on a cruise this Sept (the actual day we will be in port is Friday, Sept 4). I want to take a day trip via public bus to Honfleur, but I am having an extremely difficult time getting info on precisely how to do that. Every bus time table I can find online ends on August 31st and is only in French. My French is no where near good enough to figure it out, so I hope someone can help.

My basic questions are, 1) what is the approx cost each way, 2) how far is the nearest bus stop from the cruise ship port, 3) what are the names of the stops I need to know on the bus schedule (in other words, what is my stop name in each town where I will get on/off the bus) 4) what bus number do I take & 5) how often do they run on a weekday at that time of the year?

I really want to spend my time in this lovely town without having to be on a formal tour group.... and I don't want to take a taxi that I have to have sit and wait for me... I just want to walk around at my leisure and soak in the sights. Any guidance or suggestions would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks!

My wife and me would like to visit Mont Saint michel in mid July 2015.
We would like to look at the beautiful night view of Mont Saint Michel, however, there would not be any bus from MSM to Rennes at night. So, can anyone tell us, how much is it if we catch a taxi from MSM to Rennes? And is it hard to find a taxi at night? Will that be any other way to go back to rennes at night since my wife and me don't have a driving licence.
We would be grateful for your information. Thanks.
