      Getting to Naples airport

      Naples Feb 10, 2017 at 2:07 PM

I just realized that our flight leaving Naples is at 6:45am. I've booked a hotel that's a 12 minute drive from the airport, but we won't be driving. How's the cab situation during that time of the day? We will be staying at the B&B Milionaria. Thanks!

      Vespa rentals

      Siena Feb 4, 2017 at 6:38 AM

We want to rent vespas while in Siena. Found a company that will bring them to our hotel. Is it best to do this with a tour, or would we be good to head out without a guide?

    • restaurant after opera?

      Naples Jan 25, 2017 at 4:21 AM

During our visit to Napoli in the end of April, we'll see "La Traviata" at the Opera, it starts at 20:00, so won't be over until at least 23.00. Fortunately it's a Saturday.
Who knows of a (nice) restaurant nearby that still serves food that late?

      Vespa rental in Siena

      Italy Jan 24, 2017 at 7:41 PM

We are headed to Siena for 3 nights and thought it would be fun to rent Vespas for a day to explore. Thoughts on this.....none of us have ever driven/ridden a Vespa. If we do this and not being part of tour, is that advisable? I think it could be a fun adventure, but are we biting off more than we can chew?

      Brindisi or Porte Cesareo?

      Basilicata Jan 27, 2014 at 5:30 AM

Our coming holiday I would like to spend exploring "the heel" and geografically both Brindisi and Porto Cesareo suit well for short rides everyday. But my children (teenagers) are very specific about the beach. To be more specific, the sea. They like when you can snork. The water should be clear and there are should be some species to watch (no matter fish or crab), they also don't like it when it is shallow for quite a long time ( as it is along Venice Rivierra). Could you please help me with a choice?

      Matera hotels?

      Matera Aug 25, 2011 at 7:55 PM

Are you familiar with Matera? We may be in the city for 2 nights to do some photo-shooting, and I'd like to know what hotels you can recommend that have cave bedrooms and spectacular views of the town (I'm cheating on a couple of the photos, to shoot them from my bedroom window!). I don't mind if it's pricey, but it has to be worth the cost. I'm leaning toward the Hotel Sassi, and recent reviews of the place are favorable.

      Getting to Calitri?

Does anyone have any good advice on getting to Calitri? Either from Avellion or elsewhere? I'd like to visit the town for the day, and try to see some of Avellino that same day, if possible. Are there buses or anything local that could get me to Calitri without having a car? Thanks!

    • Hotels in Old Town

      Maratea Jan 3, 2007 at 8:47 PM

We are looking for accommodation in Maratea but with all the little communities it is difficult to get a good understanding of the area and how far apart things are. We want something atmospheric and not too expensive. The Old Town sounds like what we are after, but is it far from the beach? An apartment with two double bedrooms or a bed & breakfast would be great or a hotel (assuming not too expensive). All the websites I've found so far are for accomodation which appear to be quite some distance from the Old Town and/or requires a car. Do you have any suggestions?
      Regards

    • Naples to Avigliano

      Basilicata Feb 11, 2006 at 12:10 PM

Io e mio marito want to take a trip to see where our families were from and then spend some time at/near the Amalfi Coast. This will probably be our only trip to Italy in this lifetime and we only have 2 weeks. His family is near Avellino and mine is Avigliano/Potenza. Anyone know the best way for me to get from Naples to Avigliano (by way of Avellino) and about how long it will take? Is there actually much reason to stay in either town or will this most likely be drive in, look around and drive on to the next "hometown"?

      Thanks for any help!

      Travel to and 'after' Matera

      Matera Nov 20, 2004 at 5:07 PM

Hello, Probably I'll visit Italy (Matera and Grotole) for this year's Christmas. I'll spend there about one week. My questions are in the field 'How to reach... .': I can fly to Milan or Rome. Can you help me - where it is easier to reach Matera? Is it better by train, or, probably busses are more convenient? After that I have to leave for Grotole. How is the public transport? Do you think I'll manage knowing almost any Italian? Thanks for your help, and greetings from Bulgaria. You are welcome if you are coming here. Have a nice day, Lillyia

Hello all, I have 3 questions for those more knowledgeable than I am: 1) :?: why is it that most Anglo-saxons hardly ever mention Basilicata/Calabria in forums etc. and expats too, even Brits, seem to avoid these areas in relocation? 2) :?: I am planning a visit there and would like to know which communes-towns are badly impacted by depopulation & out-migration of young locals, and if you think that a westerner might be welcome (or feel comfortable) to spend a few months there 3) :?: which coastal towns in Basilicata (both sides)and which on the Ionic side of Calabria north of Crotone have the loveliest sandy beaches? or the nicest to stay in for a while?
