Japan/Misawa residents, I have some Questions?

      Misawa Apr 5, 2012 at 3:12 PM

Hey guys! Please forgive my ignorance about this- but I was considering living in Japan for a couple of years, and I understand that it is very difficult. I am a dietitian, and I was born in Japan, IN Misawa- and I want to work inside the hospital on base. I just think it'd be neat to work where I was born, and get to know Japan a little bit.

For residents, what do I need to know about trying to attain residency? For military if there are any, are there any requirements to work on base? Thank you! Any input is valued, even if it destroys my dream haha best to be informed.

    • No-visa stay limit/renewal

      Misawa Oct 4, 2011 at 2:01 AM

Hi! I'm in the US Navy, stationed up here in Misawa, and my wife's paperwork for command sponsorship (indefinite stay permission) has been lost and resubmitting it will take longer than she has left on her 90-day stay limit, because she doesn't have a working/student visa. We're probably going to have to fly her to Korea and back to restart her stay-clock, which we are both a little terrified of, so we were wondering how long she needs to stay in Korea for it to reset her time in Japan.

To sum up: How long does someone need to leave Japan for, in order to reset their no-visa stay-time?

Any assistant will be greatly appreciated!!!

    • Stop over at Aomori

      Aomori Jul 26, 2011 at 3:37 PM

We are on our first visit to Japan in September. We will be taking a train from Hakodate to Sendai on 6th September. Would like to know whether it would be possible to make a stop-over at Aomori to visit the Sannai-Maruyama site. How much time would be necessary? Any suggestions will help us a great deal in planning our trip and make the most from our trip.

      Regards,

      Shree

      Misawa Suggestions?

      Misawa Jul 7, 2008 at 4:32 PM

Hey- I am going to be visiting Japan next year with my friend and want to visit Misawa; can anyone suggest fun things to do/see in Misawa?

This may seem a weird question, but my friend really wants to experience hot springs and I've heard there are many in Aomori- are there any in Misawa or close by? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you!

      Planning A Trip

      Aomori Sep 18, 2007 at 12:21 AM

      Hello

I am very interested in going to Japan, Aomori to experience Nebuta festival, can someone advise me when is the time to go and the exact date of Nebuta festival. Besides that what other places that I should go if I am there? I heard that the hotel booking must be made early as during this festival almost all hotels will be fully booked. Which airline is the cheapest carrier to travel as I am from Malaysia. I need more advise before I could start plan the trip and map the route.

Thanking in advance for your help.

      need to park

      Hirosaki Jul 22, 2007 at 6:10 AM

This might seem like a strange question, but I am traveling to Hirosaki by car to see the Neputa festival. I don’t have a hotel that night, but I figured I would just sleep at an internet café. What I was wondering was, what is the parking situation like in the city itself? I want to ditch the car and see the festival but my map of the city doesn’t show me where there are places to park. Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks.

      Misawa Jan 18, 2007 at 9:08 PM

Does anyone have a copy of USARJ Pamphlet 190-10 (Driving in Japan) that they can mail to me. Will be glad to pay for postage and such. Will be traveling to Japan in late July and wanting to rent a van from MWR, and understand that I need a 4EJ drivers license and must take a written test to obtain one. Just wanted to refresh myself in advance with the driving rules.
      Thanks.

    • Looking for seaman's club in Hachinohe

      Hachinohe Jan 30, 2004 at 6:19 AM

In 1964 I found a commemorative board along the shore east of Misawa. The Seaman's club of Hachinohe was the ones that placed it in the ocean to commemorate the sinking of the Koho Maro in 1909. I would like to contact some at the club for possibly returning the commemorative board to them. Thanks Pat Baker Mt. Holly, NC 28120 704-827-4186

    • How To Get to Misawa

      Misawa May 20, 2003 at 12:10 AM

I'm living in Florida, currently, but will be flying out of ATL to travel to Misawa in October/November. I've read that the "best" way to get there is a flight into Narita, a bus to Haneda, and then a flight from Haneda into Misawa. Is this truly the best way to get there? I don't want a tedious, tiring trip. Thanks in advance!
