The Snow miracle on August 5th

      Rome 6 hours ago

Hi all guys, for those of you who happen to be in Rome on August 5th here's a small story you might be interested...

In the fourth century, under Pope Liberius, a noble named Giovanni with his wife, having no children they decided to offer all their whealth to the Holy Virgin for the construction of a church dedicated to her. Our Lady appreciated their desire and appeared them in a dream the night between 4 and 5 August, indicating the place where the church would be built. The following morning they went to the Pope to tell the dream made by both, even the pope had the same dream: the Virgin told him the next morning would be an absolutely unusual event happened, and where it had happened, there would have had to build the church.
The next day, on August 5, 352 AC, full summertime, all the Romans were stunned: they found the Esquiline hill completely covered in snow.
Well, belive it or not, if you are in Piazza di Santa Maria Maggiore (also know as Madonna della Neve, i.e. Virgin of the snow) at 9 p.m. on August 5th every year you will find yourself under a "real" snowfall!

      Enjoy Rome;-)

    • Beach in Vietri sul Mare and Sorento

Vietri sul Mare Jul 26, 2016 at 12:44 AM

We plan to stay 14 days in Salerno at the end of august and first half of September. So we planned to visit all the major towns on the Amalfi coast but to have some sunbathing on La Baia beach in Vietri sul mare.

      1) Can anyone tell me what are the prices of a parasol + sunbeds for 2 people on La Baia beach in Vietri sul mare and is it far from the bus stops?

      2) Are there any sandy beaches in Salerno? What are the prices? Where are they situated?

Thank you in advance for your answers!

      Dolomiti Yesterday

      Hi,
My partner and I are planning to arranged to do the first 5 days of Alta Via 2 in the Dolomites. We hike quite a bit but is always just for 1 or 2 days at a time. We are trying to get a better idea of the trail to make sure it is not beyond our capabilities. Our days, along the AV2, are listed below:

      Questions:
      1. Can someone comment on what kind of equipment we need and what kind of equiptment is helpful (hiking poles vs. ferratas kits)l. We want to avoid via ferratas.

      2. On day 5/6 is there a good place to finish the hike and get back into town. We want to make our way back to Milan .

      Thanks!

They'll need a bit of freedom if they are to have a good time. Is Alghero safe for them to go off on their own? Are there parks where they can kick a ball around? A beach they can go swimming at? Also what is Sardegna like generally for cycling from place to place...

Any advice for wheelchair accessible hotels maybe?

I'm having second thoughts about taking a guitar on a plane (heard horror stories about this and Ryanair won't let you take a guitar as hand luggage, you're supposed to book a separate seat for it!!!).

I wondered if anyone could help advise what the likelihood of borrowing a guitar when I'm there would be? Or if anyone knows someone there that I could possibly borrow one from?

Any help would be much appreciated.
