I have noticed that notices on the day sometimes don't appear on the day until late-ish UK/EU time (around 10am). But more often mine have the 'x's birthday is today July 26th' notice on the day before (i.e July 25th). I have written to feedback suggesting that techies might need to tweak (or kick) the birthday 'clock'. :-)

my country current time is +3 GMT and also I noticed that switchover from -1day to today done around 9:30-10AM CT

A friend's birthday has just appeared in my notices (0950 GMT/CST). It doesn't say 'today' but is for tomorrow, 29th: 'x has a birthday, July 29th'. Come to think of it, maybe that's why the notice no longer says 'today'? My 'today' won't be the same as someone on the other side of the dateline.

Maybe something to do with the different time zones! I am notified of friend's birthdays some days in advance, maybe we are all notified at the beginning of the week.

Yes leics ,they are working around this issue by keeping the notification 3/2 days before but for "Today's Member Birthdays" even if we suggest that date & time to be sync with member computer , probable a will write happy birthday for someone in -/+ 1day

How do you know what *they* are doing? I have been a member since 2004, and PJ even longer, so we are both aware of how things 'normally' are on VT. It is 'normal' for birthday notices to come several days/a week or so in advance, and then for a further notice to come on the day itself. This is what has changed.

And now I get vtmails from G, alerting me "XXX has a birthday today!" - is this a new 'normal' @leics? ;-) FYI I can do without it - the drop down notice was enuf to keep me updated before, days earlier! ;-)

NR, this is a new thing and has been discussed on the MAG forum. It's because the preferences have a new box or two added. They are 'checked' as default. So. Go to 'Welcome...' and then 'Account settings'. Go into 'edit preferences' and you'll see the boxes for birthday notifications etc. Just un-check them and problem solved. No more external emails supposedly from G... sorted! :-)

O I C! ;-) Ah well, I have just sent G an email asking:- Kindly advise if it would be possible, at all, NOT to receive birthday notifications via vtmail? FYI I find the drop down notification has served me well! :-) I do like to keep my vtmail Inbox for REAL emails from VT friends/you when necessary ;-) BTW I don't seem to be able to reset my external email preferences from this ancient work computer! :( Will try to redo it from my laptop at home tonite! It's 4.56pm MYT now! ;-)

MAG is 'member advisory group'. If you want to join you can write to feedback. You're not the only one who's been bemused by this, but it's very easily sorted out. Glad you've fixed it. :-)

I switched on the email notification for my friend's Birthday again, but it doesn't make me happy. I have to open all the emails to get the inboc counter to zero; in the past this was an integral part of the notification counter, what I liked better (the integral part). With My Dashboard I_read_it_all now I only get the notice counter to zero and I still have to open all my emails. PJ

@leics, why am I still receiving an email from G, in both my vtmail and external mail boxes, telling me I have xy'd friends' request - after unticking everything?? Argh!! HELP!! :((

Dunno, me duck. You did save your changes, yes? If you've unticked and saved and mails are still coming to your external email, there's a glitch somewhere I think. Write directly to feedback@virtualtourist.com and they'll sort you out. :-)

You too! Just a thought before you go: maybe the last mails you received were 'in the pipeline' before you changed tour preferences? I'd maybe hold fire and see if you get any more before you write to feedback; sometimes the various servers take a while to get in sync with each other. I think. :-)

Ah.. Maybe? I wondered about that, too, i.e. it was sent out before I made the changes but I did that 24 hours earlier and the vtmail/external email notification came 14 hrs earlier i.e. 10 hrs AFTER I made changes to my preferences.. Ah, well - I've already sent the email to feedback! ;-) Too late now :(

Not to worry.. They'll sort it out. :-)
