The Newest Members List

by ranger49 Online Now Jul 20, 2012 at 6:50 AM

Has anyone noticed that, as of today, if you hover the mouse over any of the photo/icons on the Newest Members List you no longer see a thumbnail description of their profile and details of any Reviews posted.

I just checked and I can see it. Maybe try refreshing your browser and see if that fixes it? It could have just been a glitch!

Still not seeing anything unless I click on the photo/icon and open the Profile page. Refreshing makes no difference. Only noticed it first thing this morning - about 10 hours ago at first though it might be a glitch because I seem to recall G. mentioning that something would happen on July 20th. By the way, I have been away from home for the last two weeks and am using the same Samsung Notebook I always take with me, on a fast French connection. Not had any problems on any other site or with emails.

We did do a release yesterday, but I don' t think we made any intentional changes in this area. Will look into it. -T

Hi Todd - Just wondered if anything wrong with the mouse. The only test I could think of was to run it over some of the Thumbnails in My Pictures - up came the usual information - date taken etc, etc. So no problem there.....

I guessed you'd been fiddling, Todd: there's been an occasional green flash today (when I renew a comment, for example). And my account settings have been changed so you emailed my external address with a friend notification (which, weirdly, has not yet appeared on my drop-down menu). I've changed them back, of course. Is this also why, yesterday, I saw what appeared to be the result of a live hyperlink when I was replying to an advertising post?

Just a thought, Barbara: is your anti-virus (for some reason) suddenly interpreting the thumbnail thingies as pop-ups and blocking them?

Thanks for that idea leics, but I don't think so. I have checked a mail order site I sometimes use for books and on that one hovering brings up an enlargement of the cover. I am looking out for a (real) friend who told me, before I came away, that she was "seriousy thinking" of joining VT, gave me her proposed user name, and to watch out for her. Hence my special interest and anyway I often find hovering is a handy short cut to all new members:) It does not so far appear that anyone else has noticed a problem - will test it on my PC when I get home on Wednesday and report back then.

Curiouser and curiouser. I did not wait to get home to check my PC but checked out the Members List on my husband's Netbook - more recent than mine and with Windows 7 and IE9. Hovering on new members List icons or photos brings up written member details. I have not changed any settings on my machine - pop-ups, cookie collection or anything else ... it just happened. Any more thoughts from the Techhies?

The IE7 issue Todd mentioned can also affect IE8 and IE9 when compatibility view is turned on. There's a small icon that looks like a torn page next to the address bar in your browser. It should be light blue if compatibility view is on. Click it to turn it off. This should keep any other IE7 issues from affecting your experience of VT. Nate

Thanks Nate - Yes I already know about the "little bit of torn paper icon" and compatibility - it was one of the first things I checked before writing in.

I thought this might be related to the IE7 bug we patched on Friday. Turns out it was due to a different IE8 specific bug. The patch was released yesterday afternoon (pacific time). Nate
