It's not just you, Fergy. There are weird symbols in that article. I've noticed this sometimes happens when text is initially written on e.g. a Mac and then pasted into e.g. MS format.

Well, Saeed, you have lost me there. It is no secret here how bad I am at computers but hopefully that will help the techs.

Apart from the changed characters the colour rendering in many of the selected photos is very chocolate box/cheapcalendar gaudy. Or are they meant to look like that?

Maybe it's your monitor, Barbara? The color looks fine on my Mac. My bigger problem is, Fergy, where on earth did you even FIND this article? I went into Press Center, there doesn't appear to be any articles added since Sept. 16 2011, and I don't see this Top 10 bike article at all. Probably not worth the mention as I know we're due for another overhaul but I'd be surprised if newish members ever found the fun press articles; the link to those is pretty much nearly hidden on the page, and the Top 10 lists never get a shout-out in the 'Latest News' section. But main page confusion is something we've discussed recently so that's probably being addressed as we speak. :)

No Kate - it's what my grandkids call an old steam engine - PC with Windows 7 and IE9 and a good, newish, Samsung Monitor - but it is only those photos from the Link Fergy gave that have such crude hues. All other photos on VT and other websites appear "normal". Like you I have not found the way to any others in this "best of" series but not being a list person did not spend too much time looking.

Kate, I genuinely have no idea where I found it. I was mooching about the site whilst having a beer or three and came upon it. I thought it was a lnk fromt he homepage but I cannot find it now, maybe you had better ask some of the techs.

I just found the Link by chance so came here - too late! - to pass it on . There it was staring me in the face on my Dashboard page. But I wasn't expecting to see it nor even looking for it and I don't think it can have been there very long.......

The NZ golf photo is in the Japanese skiing slot with the skiing photo in the Indian yoga slot. Hijacking but this is similar-ish - On 'Add or edit a Travel Page' why are there, for example, 5 Preston's listed for England? I find this for plenty of places I would build pages? Then I start to look at each one on the drop down menu and by then my attention span has departed :-( Feeble, I know :-))

Actually Rosata I found a good many more Preston listed on VT if you click on two or three in turn starting at the top you will not find the one -in Lancashire, close to Blackpool and the M6 which is the one most people here or overseas might have heard of. Check the small map that appears on the page of any one pf the Prestons - they are all over the Place. Somebody wrote a Tip about an hotel near Blackpool/Kirkham under in Preston, Dorset! I just checked the Gazetteer in my AA GB Road Atlas and found 16 Prestons. VT really does need a new database and specifically one that at least recognises Counties in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

Can you imagine the nightmare involved in migrating all VT pages, tips, reviews and travelogues to a brand-new database????

A veritable nightmare. It seems to me that we Europeans need to encourage the website to be developed so that towns and villages in Europe with the same name can be differentiated by location.

Actually, Rosata, they were until fairly recently. The travel pages were updated and changed in appearance and many regions/counties etc were lost. Hopefully they will eventually be reinstated, but G has said many times that the database (which is as old as VT) is very fragile and so 'tweaking' is limited.

I remember it used to have counties and not just ..........., UK Che peccato!
