I'm just about to start a Milan(o) page and I see that both Milan and Milano are listed on the VT database. I presume these are in fact the same place but thought I'd double check with you guys. I'll use Milan to build a page and can always move it later if needed. However if they are in fact the same place wouldn't it be an idea to fuse them together under one name or the other?
They are sort of already fused together. ie Milan and Milano do take you to the same page. But as you notice, there are two pages. As I understand it, when there are pages built on a 'double' location, one can't be disposed of. But if you click on one of the Milano pages it takes you to the Milan page.

John, This has been done on request. Some locations even have a triple input. PJ

Always check the map point on the Travel guide if you are unsure.

You guys have lost me here - this is a Top 5 Milano page - members.virtualtourist.com/m... ???? This is number 99 in the Milan guide - "Milan, a nice place to shop. And, drop." - Milan by joiwatani I don't see the fusion that you are on about Pam ???? It is two separate travel guides and if an Italian (or anyone else who types Milano) gets the VT Milano result then what are they going to think? They are going to think that VT is just another cheapo commercial site with a few ADS. I hate amateur sites.

If you type in Milano on the search box on the VT Frontpage (which is search the best to use at the moment), Click GO and wait a couple of seconds and the options appear. You will see 2 results, both called Milano. The first one, takes you to the Milan Travel Guide (not Milano). This shows there has already been some linkage done by VT. Admittedly the second option for Milano goes to a Milano Travelguide. But as I explained earlier, in past experience, if there are already pages built on both locations, they don't delete one. Whereby yes they end up with double travelguides but not a lot can be done. One place I know about, I was the person with the page on a location, so I removed it and the location was also removed. I'm just pointing out that a merge has been done, although it doesn't stop there being two Travel Guides for one place.

That should read: (which is the best search to use at the moment)

John, I admit you are right on this one. Browse Destinations near 'Milano' Better contact Barbara at VT headquarters via feedback@virtualtourist.com on this. I hope this can be solved. PJ

As I said before PJ, when there are pages built they don't merge (yet). We've discussed this before.

We need a tool for this. I'll check the wish list. PJ

I don't think it's something "we" can do. Milan/Milano is already on the radar. I have a list for others, as I'm sure Barbara does too.

I had a talk with globetrotter and he had a long list of imperfections in the data base. Indeed it's best to relay things to Barbara. PJ

Yep...it's on the list. Problem is that there is an incorrect Milano that needs to be merged, but we can't do that until we redo all the page building stuff.
