Hi This morning, I have tried to start my personal travel guide for our forthcoming trip. However, having created a new travel guide, most times that I try to save a tip to it, it tells me that the tip has ALREADY been saved to the travel guide, which isn't possible. Regards Cathy
Seems that there are a number is issues today. Email also not working at present. They will have reduced staff today at VT because of the USA holiday Memorial Day.

Quite probable Rich. Coincidentally it's also a public holiday in Germany too (Ascension Day). Just as an aside (and I can digress without accusation of hijacking because I started this thread!), what does Memorial Day commemorate?

In General American Armed Forces and all those who have fought and died in wars since the American Civil War in the 1860's. General ceremonies include honoring veterans, etc. There is an old cemetery near my house which is only open to the public twice during the year. Once on Memorial Day where they have a small ceremony and once on Halloween. Memorial Day became an official holiday in the U.S. I believe in 1971 when the last Monday of the month of May was designated as the official Memorial Day. It is also the unofficial start of summer especially in the northern part of the United States, for example Chicago. It ends with the U.S. version of Labor Day which is celebrated on the first Monday in September. On both Mondays there are a lot of family gatherings with BBQ's. Unless your wife happens to be a nurse and works from 7:00 to 19:00. Then you get to "play on the computer", clean and do some laundry like me.

It's not Ascension Day today, but Whitmonday (does that word exist in English? It's the monday after Whitsunday.) Ascension Day is next week on thursday (07th of June). But don't worry, Cathy - there are so many holidays in May and June that it is easy to get confused :-) I hope you will be able to save tips to your trip planner soon. I had a similar problem just a short time before my UK trip, and it sucked.

Whoops, see, even I got confused now!!! Haha! :-) Ascension Day was the thursday two weeks ago. On the 7th of June, it's Corpus Christi! But most people don't care anyway as long as they all remain holidays :-)

@ettiewynn, Ascension day here in France was 11 days ago (or two Thursdays ago), today is the Pentecote. French equivalent of Whit monday. These are both movable holidays but always on a Thursday and a Monday.

You're both quite right - it's Whitsun. I'd have been thrown out of my convent grammar school for mixing up my holy days of obligation!

Well that is quite incredible. I am sure that I was answering ettys post of 6h06, but when I come back 5 hours later she has another post between the 2, only 3 minutes later. I'm sure her second post wasn't there when I posted, so what's up, was I late or are things not being posted at the correct time ?
