I feel that I must now go back and just erase the price in my VT Hotel tips/reviews since the new format came along. Was it just me or did the old way of writing a tip for hotels include "Price per person" not just the word "Price" and that the change over in the format gives the PPP for the P? Wow. All my prices written before the change over are now way off. Help! Is there an easy way to remedy this?
I just checked the "write a hotel tip/review" guideline and it asks for the Price per Person on the page. When the hotel tip/review is posted on your pages it only says "Price", so the problem lies in the way VT Staff transfer the "Price per Person" inquiry to the posted "Price" making one assume that the price range is the total "Price" and not per person as requested by VT. VT, either keep the old format on both the inquiry and post or change the inquiry to read just price, after all, it is less confusing to list the total price than to have it be per person, in my opinion. At least for those that travel in two's and not as a single. Anyway, most hotels say the room can be occupied by 2 at the same price.

Well prices vary so much I often do not put anything other than a general remark such as budget or upmarket. Was it a good deal...or maybe a wotif....or a walk in price?

Mine have never been price per person as rates are almost always per room in US. I know that's different in other parts of the world, though.

I've always considered for the first 2 people, it's per room, and after that there is a person charge.

So, my question is why was/is VT asking "Price per Person" and still does when writing a Hotel tip, but and the big question is why now is the area for "Price per Person" on your tip listed as "Price" which now makes the amount you enter seem low.

In the old VT hotel prices were shown as "Prices" and never as "Price per Person". I just looked into several trip planner pdf I saved. The only difference between old and new VT in that context is an innocent "s". Old VT: Prices, New VT: Price. Ingrid :-)

But when building a tip weren't you given the choice of per person or not? I do recall something like this somewhere.

Yes it does. Says "Price per person". What I wanted to point out is that this has nothing to do with new VT. It was there before.

Aha . I misread you :-)

Okay I will give up after this attempt to make it as clear as I can! In writing a VT Hotel tip, one of the VT requested steps is number 7. Price Per Person. This is asked by VT when making your hotel tip, (bear with me now) but when you are finished with writing the hotel tip, the "Price per person" you filled in on the number 7. Price Per Person is now listed in the completed tip that everyone sees as just "Price". Example: The hotel room costs US$190 per night. VT says in your hotel tip you are filling out, the number 7 fill in step is to be "Price per Person", so you take half of the room cost which was US$190 and it becomes US$95 which you must list in the US$80-120 range for step number 7. Price per Person. BUT.....when you have completed the Hotel tip and click on the bar at the bottom of the tip that reads: I'm Done Editing - Save This Tip....the US$80-120 is listed as "Price". Now it looks like the total room cost per night is between US$80-120 as it now reads: Price: US$80-120, which in reality the actual cost of the room is US$190. This makes the "Price: US$80-120" a false cost factor due to not having the additional wording Per Person that was in the VT write up questions, that being number 7, Price Per Person. How do I get the word Price changed back to Price Per Person from VT as that would be easier and more logical, then for me to go to every hotel tip and edit in the Price where it still says Price Per Person. This reminds me of the old Abbot and Costello comedy routine about baseball when Costello asked Abbot;"Well then,Who's on first" and Abbott replied; "Yes." If you want to hear the whole comedy routine go to the webpage and scroll down to the old fashioned radio and click on it for the radio play by play of one of the greatest comedy routines. Larry, I understood what you mean. In the edit section it asks for price per person. And at the end it is not displayed as price per person in the tip but as price. What I wanted to point out (sorry for my poor English) is that this is nothing that has anything to do with new VT. It was the same before! To me your initial question reads as if this is a result of new VT, which it is not. Nevertheless, VT software guys should put this on their agenda, to change "price" into "price per person".

Your English is perfectly clear there Ingrid :-))

Yes, I believe you are right, Ingrid. I did not notice before that only the "Price" word is in the completed tip. It was only a couple of days ago, that another VTer said that the price I put on a Hotel did not sound right and that it seemed too low. I looked at my Hotel tip the VTer mentioned and that is when I saw just the word "Price". Wow, for over 7 years on VT I never noticed this or was it brought up by anyone. Now, I see what Vt has done is wrong and I trust that the staff can look this over and come up with a proper solution. In the meantime, I must make a disclaimer on my ppp page and say that I listed the "price per person" when I was writing the tip as requested by VT, but when reading the "Price" just double whatever the range it says on the hotel tip. Sounds a little silly and not the way to go, but to have to change all the hotel tips because of the mistake that VT made seems wrong and that VT should just change the format on the finished tip to read the same as what #7 on the tip write up says, which is "Price Per Person" :-O

Larry, the thing is that even most countries are not clear when it comes to prices for accommodation! So why should it be here on VT, lol :-) What I do since some time is: I write the price I paid and write if it was a single room or a double for single use. And the date when I was there.

Ingrid, perhaps it would be better to leave the "Price" out of the tip and if someone likes the tip and would like to know the cost per night, the website or phone number of the accomodation should be there for their use to get the up to date and accurate pricing structure. Hello,VT Staff, are you reading this? Help.

Haha, yes, you are right, Larry. Hello, VT staff, are you reading this? And in that context there is another minor typo in the shopping tips, like here: "Gourmet mustard – to die for !" - Land Rheinland-Pfalz Shopping Tip by Trekki Please insert a space/blank between "other" and "contact" in the Address etc section :-) Thanks

Larry I could not agree more...as you will see in my post I rarely if ever put price....prices change so much...I once read that even on a plane no two people were paying the same fare...maybe an exaggeration but there is a lot of truth in it with regards hotels too..

While I think the average price can be helpful, it isn't easy to figure out what to put especially in the US where the price for one and the price for two is usually about the same. Because of the 'price per person' in the directions, I also do take the price that I paid for two and divide in half, but I expect people traveling in the US to know that is half of the price for a double because we have very few single rooms here. It is the same as a average price for a meal, which depends on whether you have dessert and if you drink wine or something with your meal. We sometimes just have appetizers and dessert or sometimes we are having lunch - should I extrapolate dinner costs from the menu? And do you include tax and tip in the total? I just say in the narrative what we had and sometimes I price out the individual items.

I'm kind of with Mystery as I find putting in a price to be an exercise in futility. Hotels can change so much depending on high season, low season. special on-line deals, etc. For restaurants, I'm starting to just include a website with the menu if possible - it's too hard to keep up with changes, and prices can vary so much depending on what you eat, if they have early-bird specials, whether it's lunch or dinner, etc.
